Today is the moment of truth. The Cincinnati Bengals win this weekend, they're in the playoffs. But that game doesn't kickoff until 4:15 p.m. We have the Jets and Dolphins to watch, along with all of the pregame coverage. Regardless. Your open thread until the Bengals kickoff starts now.

ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Please Gruden, hear me out!
Going for the jugular does not mean you need to throw bombs and risk interceptions. If we march up the field with a long dink and dunk drive, DO IT AGAIN! Then DO IT AGAIN! AND AGAIN until they stop you or start cheating up so bad that Green or Simpson can get free without safety help over the top. Please play smart!! Bombs in the wind are a recipe for disaster!

News flash
Got a report from ESPN that a number of Steeler fans are coming to the PBS wearing their mustard and stains to cheer on the Bengals to win because they could not get tickets in Cleveland and they can keep an eye on the squealers via the scoreboard. Keep them in their place and remind them the Bengals are coming.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
haha
I read that Marvin might not have certain game scores posted so the team doesn’t get distracted. How funny would it be if that game is one of them.
steveinct - January 1, 2012 via mobile
I just saw that
sounds like BS to me….I love how they dont have any source for this…..They probably got it off of the message boards….Oh yeah….and I cant stand this crew right now on espn…..just terrible….to listen to Tom Jackson and Chris Carter go back and forth…just makes my stomach hurt it is so bad…like two guys out in front of the darn liquor store
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Also...
there’s always a pocket of Steelers fan at PBS, no matter what. Some people just like being a part of the NFL experience, regardless of what team it is. I have a Bengals fan friend out in Atlanta and he goes to 4 Falcons games a year just because he likes for some reason, the environment of the NFL.
KSE - January 1, 2012
Yeah thas cool
If I lived in Pitt, I would go check out a few games…..they are a blast
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
and as long as they are rooting for the Bengals
its all good
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
that's what I hear
TJ mentioned that in the ESPN report.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
Oh, and Happy New Year Jungle folks.

And root for the Bengals we will!!

lol
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Yeah that’s about right… lol We’ll feel a little dirty doing this for the Bengals, but the unopened case of IC will make it ok.
You guys better hope the Power of Cope is in the Bengals corner today…

KSE - January 1, 2012
WHO DEY!
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Enjoy The Game !
Here in Southwestern Virginia, they decided to show the freakin Pit-Cle game which is just wrong for so many reasons. I gave the station quite a tongue lashing and am probably now 86’d…LOL
laibach - January 1, 2012
You think that's bad...
my AFC choices are NYJ-MIA and KAN-DEN. I am in flippin’ South Carolina
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
At least those games
directly influence the Bengals Playoffs. PIT/Cle? Not so much.
KSE - January 1, 2012
Pit/Cle
Does have implications. If Cleveland beats Shittsburgh , Ravens can win the 2 seed with a loss too.
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
It has no implications for us...
was the point. Pittsburgh winning or losing has no effect on the Bengals getting in the playoffs (unless the dreaded SOCO plays a factor, which is unlikely). Thus, my reaction to david feeling let down although those two games do play a factor for the Bengals.
KSE - January 1, 2012
I think these games will be pretty good though
like KSE stated….these are all playoff games
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
not the point
my point is that I live in the AFC territory of Tennessee. That game could directly influence the
Bengals moreso than the Jerks. Titans win it doens’t matter what the Jets do.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
The CIN -Bal game should have been the national game
Ultimately, I guess it’s CBS’s fault…idiots. We also get NYJ-MIA and you probably figure out who I’m rooting for.
laibach - January 1, 2012
yeah
Jazcksonville. LOL
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
It Makes Sense
When this season has Tebow NOT been a story bigger than actual football?
Denver isn’t the prime game, Tebow is.
Skyhook - January 1, 2012
I think they will go after a QB in the offseason
they have too…they can’t put the hopes of the franchise on Tebow…
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
who dey!
i have the same problem in southern ohio..the tv station told me “they have a bigger audience for pittsburgh” which is BS..i have directv so i always get the nfl package! GO BENGALS!!!
Billie Jarvis - January 1, 2012
depending on where the station is located
if it is a West Virginia station they are in the Pittsburgh territory. They must go with PIT first over a CIN game.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
Watch the game
If you want to stream the game here is the link it is what i have been doing since we do not get many sell outs first of all and i live in south florida where they do not show many afc north games.

Ripple5 - January 1, 2012
its pretty windy here in Middletown
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
looks pretty nasty out
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Yep.
ESPN said they were getting gusts in the 40s at the Stadium. Going to be interesting game if the wind persists.
KSE - January 1, 2012
This changes the game.
I like Dalton to Green over Flacco to whoever is still healthy.
A base of 25mph wind with gusts to 40 turns it into a ground game.
How do you feel about Benson behing Livings and McGlynn over Ray Rice? Yeah, me too.
This makes the game far more of a nailbiter.
I think they can still pull it off, but I’m going to be rooting hard for Miami and KC all the same.
Skyhook - January 1, 2012
I think the big difference...
is going to be the Nugent/Cundiff battle. May turn into a game where FG and missed FG play a crucial factor.
KSE - January 1, 2012
Benson better have his bags packed,
His limo to the airport idling at the players exit just in case he has another multi fumble day. I heard a Raven interview yesterday and those guys are eager to lay some licks on Benson.
WCO can do well in this kind of wind so no worries.
BENGALS69 - January 1, 2012
The "WCO" is misnamed
Walsh developed this offense for Virgil Carter, then Ken Anderson and this weather. Wonder why it worked so well in San Francisco but has issues in Some locations (Buffalo or Chicago)
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
It's usually the people
being used in the offense. Anderson and Montana? Of course, they’ll do well. The endless parade of joke QBs in Chicago and Buffalo? Not so much.
KSE - January 1, 2012
Cris Collinsworth...
…said that it should be named the “North Shore of the Ohio River” offense.
Skyhook - January 1, 2012
referred to
as the Cincinnati offense and the WCO was what Gilman and Coryell ran in San Diego.
Cincinnati — home of the "WCO and Zone blocking
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
Quick hitter
which divisions (without looking) are the Bengals playing next year? If I recall correctly it should be AFC West and NFC East?
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
per website
The remaining two 2012 opponents will be assigned according to the 2011 final standings. The Bengals will play at home against the AFC East team that finishes in the same position as Cincinnati, and the Bengals will play on the road against the AFC South team that matches their 2011 position.
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
AFC West and NFC East is correct.
They also play 3rd Place AFC South (JAX) and AFC East (Buffalo)
KSE - January 1, 2012
thanks
Just palanning a trip to JAX next year – about a 5 hour drive. Straight shot.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
THE RAIDERS AT HOME

david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012

ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Bengals get to the playoffs and beat houston and CIN/OAK next year is Monday Night Football.
Skyhook - January 1, 2012
+1
I hope you are right
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Not Quite
more like a SNF game so Collinsworth will get some digs in.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
Actually,
I’d prefer a Sunday night game.
Though if it’s MNF, you’d get to hear Jon Gruden pontificating on his little brother.
Skyhook - January 1, 2012
Chances are likely...
that for any MNF game next year? Neither will be a factor. Elder Gruden is obviously more likely but Jay’s name continues to be really hot.
KSE - January 1, 2012
I used to hope for that.
But then again, it seems like we always lose in prime time so I stopped.
steveinct - January 1, 2012
It's a really good schedule as far as potential prime time games.
Oakland, PittX2, BALX2, Philly, Dallas, NYG…
KSE - January 1, 2012
plus...
the Tim Tebow circus
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
After today, that might be Miami and Jacksonville, depending on tiebreakers between Buffalo and Miami.
Doc Scratch - January 1, 2012
I just wanted to say.....I flippin love NFL Sundays
_
_
That is all
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
what are the early games to wathc today?
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Jets game is what i will be watching
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
I have the following because I can't afford Sunday Ticket
CBS — NYJ-MIA and KAN-DEN
Fox — both NFC South games
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
Am I the only one....
who thinks Cleveland might actually give the mustard and stains a little trouble today? Weather there is really ugly
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
They also have nothing to lose
(draft spot not crucial because they have 2 firsts). They probably feel if they can take Ben out…they’ll have accomplished something.
KSE - January 1, 2012
They were talking about RG3 going to Cleveland
do you guys think he could survive in the AFC north?
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
RGIII equals
Akili Smith with a better arm.
Akili Smith just mentioned on ESPN — 2 completions in win over DEN in 2000 — was that not the game Dillon went for 278 and the team ran for 407 on the day (Warrick 77 yard reverse I believe)
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
i like RG3 in cleveland... makes richardson drop at least one more spot
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
anybody think
if Indy get the #1 pick and chooses Luck they trade Manning for clevelands draft next year? my fear, would st. louis do it also?
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
I think...
Manning would call it a career before he suits up for the Browns. Colts will at the very least, if they try to trade Peyton, send him somewhere with hope like Seattle or Washington.
KSE - January 1, 2012
personally
I think the browns with that D, would be twice the team Seattle would be
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
when does the first round mock drafting start?
I am putting together a first round mock but holding until the combines. Good call or not?
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
RGIII to Cleveland would be great....
that will lock them up in the cellar for another ten years. Don’t see him in the AFC North lasting too long.
The Van Buren Boys - January 1, 2012
They should keep Colt and get Blackmon so he will have a real WR to throw to.
McCoy is a talented guy. I would love to have him here as a backup to Andy if he would be content in the role.
JUNGLEJOHN - January 1, 2012
Agree, McCoy has had a rough time....
injuries on O line, no weapons to speak of. Don’t think he’s a bad player, but might get too beat up if they don’t get him some help soon.
The Van Buren Boys - January 1, 2012
Ravens question..
If we get off to a solid lead and are banging the crap out of Flaco, do you think they will pull him to avoid injury and “concede” defeat or do you think they leave him in to try to fight back. That is a tough call. If we didn’t let Houston and Arizona come back, I think they would just pull him, but the reality is that the Bengals suck with the lead (so far this year).
steveinct - January 1, 2012
careful king of kings
we need the victory first…..
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
I am confused.
I didn’t say we would win. I asked what the Ravens would do if we had a solid lead and were pounding the crap out of Flaco all game.
steveinct - January 1, 2012
its a quote from the movie troy
from an overconfident king………just…….nevermind…
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Ah.. I see..
steveinct - January 1, 2012
Emphatically no
Their best chance to beat us is for Rice to run the ball. Flacco will stay in because he is the starter for a reason. Plus the Ravens are playing for Home game after bye in playoffs instead of going to DEN/OAK next Saturday.
david in upstate SC - January 1, 2012
I agree,
But what if Flaco is taking a Rothshitsburger style beating and his thumb (or anything else) gets hurt early in the game. I am not so sure they tough it out the way the Squeelers did with Ben.
steveinct - January 1, 2012
Flacco isn't the key to that teams offense.
If he’s seriously hurt? then yes they will take him out but it’s a nagging injury and he play through? he will.
KSE - January 1, 2012
True.. but..
Don’t they have a 6th round rookie as their backup QB? That is why I question if they will keep him in there if we are banging him around. If he gets hurt, they are not going anywhere in the playoffs.
steveinct - January 1, 2012
I would rather Flacco be in there.
Our track record against rookies/first time starters/Yates, isn’t very good.
Ochocinco - January 1, 2012
that
That is a great point River Dance!
steveinct - January 1, 2012 via mobile
This is it! Go Bengals!
Remember we were picked 31 or 32 in all the preseason rankings. What a great opportunity to win and go to the playoffs!
txbengal29 - January 1, 2012
oh we will never forget that
its what makes this game that much sweeter
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
it just truly shows the ESPN brainiacs know nothing
its all based on last years team…..every year is a new team…..
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
plus
when ESPN ranked all the franchises in the 4 major sports, the Bengals were dead last… I know it is a little farfetched, but what if the Bengals could make the Super Bowl this year or next against Green Bay, who was top ranked franchise overall…
txbengal29 - January 1, 2012
Winning the SB won't affect that.
That list was based on a number of various things. It’ll increase, obviously (winning does that, Reds shot up on that list after the Division title) but factors like bad stadium, disliked owners and overall team value will still hurt the club.
KSE - January 1, 2012
bad stadium?
I though PBS has won architectural awards and stuff.
steveinct - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Concessions and general stadium staff and fan options.
are often hated by PBS patrons. Physically? It’s fine (although quite generic). I meant the stadium experience.
KSE - January 1, 2012

Dwight Carter - January 1, 2012

contrary to their beliefs
Doc Scratch - January 1, 2012

They are glorified losers that make it to the playoffs and can’t finish… That’s y they want homefield advantage. Maybe it will be different. Suck that the weather is going to be horrible. I woulda like to see Andy light them up early. It’s going to be a battle of the trenches!!!

Weather report for the nati today
_
Mostly Cloudy / Windy
Strong winds may be causing power outages.
yuck
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012
Reminds me of that Tennessee game a couple years ago.
aka “The Cincinnati Hurricane”. The goal posts were swaying all over the place.
KSE - January 1, 2012
Eh, I don't know about that....
Those winds were snapping tree trunks and pulling thousand year old tree roots out of the ground. Winds were at 60mph during that ’08 game. I remember Carson trying to throw the ball and it would go straight into the ground. These winds are going to be about 20 mph. Not even close haha
whodeycommish14 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
yeah that was bad
power was out around here for like 2 weeks…..
ticalcaldwell - January 1, 2012

If Dalton has a good game today,
I can’t tell you how impressed I’m going to be.
In the meantime, I’m watching Newton and Brees go at it. The offensive fireworks Carolina and New Orleans are going to be putting on display for the next few years is going to be worthwhile entertainment for anyone.

Baltimore Sun
So on that posting about Geno Atkins, we had a quote from the Baltimore Sun but honesty forgot to link to that specific article — which is rare for us, we always credit the sources.
Got an email from them today threatening to get their lawyers involved if we didn’t correct the mistake — which I did earlier.
Hence, now I’m not bothering to reference nor read the Baltimore Sun for anything related to Baltimore. I’m actually more of a fan of that team than I am the newspaper.
