The New York Jets are fighting for a playoff spot, needing a must-win to survive. The Miami Dolphins are looking to end the Jets season. A Jets loss it helps ensure Cincinnati's path to the playoffs if the Bengals can't get beyond the Baltimore Ravens later this afternoon. And really. We just hate the Jets anyway. So it would be gratifying across the board.

Dolphins
When the guy created the Dolphins for Miami’s mascot, did he think of it was intimidating?
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
Who Isn't Intimidated by a dolphin?
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
tyra banks main fear is dolphins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMoRrH19pFg#t=1m20s

not intimidating in the least though
palewook - January 1, 2012
woot hoot
3 and out, go Phins
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
what's more intimidating
a Raven or a Dolphin
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
To A Bengal Tiger
None.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
Pretty sure
a Bangal Tiger, would love to get it’s teeth on either
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
Bengal
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
I'd go with the Dolphin
I don’t find a scavenger, garbage eating bird to be intimidating. What the hell was that franchise thinking when they picked a mascot?
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012

Texans
Converted a 3rd and 13 out of their own endzone, fiiiirst dooown. Over ten minutes remaining in the first game on that one.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
so
we need the Texans to win???
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
No
I’m just covering our basis if the Bengals lose and if the Texans beat Tennessee, then they’re eliminated.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
i think we want them to win
If the Titans were blowing Houston up by halftime, the Jets might get bummed because they can’t make the playoffs if the titans win (if I am not mistaken). We beat them head to head so we WANT them to win. Unless, of course, you want the Jets to get in via tiebreaker. Personally, I hate the jets.
steveinct - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Been a Texans fan since they came into the league.
Would be fun for me if it was Bengals V. Texans in round 1. I would obviously be pulling for the Bengals to win, but I am just happy to see the Texans in the playoffs at all.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
Another 15-yarder from Yates to Casey
Followed up with an eight-yard run by Tate.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012

joeb69 - January 1, 2012

joeb69 - January 1, 2012

7-3
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
don't worry
jets normally start fast and slowly implode throughout the course of the game

joeb69 - January 1, 2012
Jake Delhomme is in the game
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
Yeah Yates looks to be hurt
or something. didn’t catch what happened but the announcers said something about the rookie being in the locker room.
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
TJ hurt?
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
he may have a concussion
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Well
Hopefully the Dolphins can now shut down the Jets offense. New York’s three and out on Miami, again, looked rather easy.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
agreed
looks like we may have to win which is fine, but I’d like some wiggle room
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
thumbs up everybody for rock and roll
so who are we rooting for if the bengals lose today? the phins and who else?
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
texans, chiefs, chargers
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
so if the benals lose
ALL those teams have to win?
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
we need
Dolphins, Texans, and one between Chiefs/Chargers to win
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
no
Jets and Raiders OR Broncos
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
sorry we don't need texans to win
we have tiebreaker against titans
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
to complex
lets just win
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
*too
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
this
win and it doesn’t matter, but if we lose we need the Jets to lose and either the Raiders or Broncos so it isn’t a 3+ team tie

Texans defense holds the Titans on the goalline
Tennessee converts the field goal. Titans still losing 3-7.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
If we can best the birdies today I predict at least the AFC championship game
With Yates out and the Pats looking very beatable.
emeybee - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
absolutely
how many int’s did Delhomme throw in his last playoff game?
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
how awesome would it be
to knock Joseph AND Ocho out of the playoffs along with keeping Palmer out…hilarious
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
we're hoping
the Raiders make it to the AFC Championship as well
Then we knock out Joseph – Ocho – and Palmer

joeb69 - January 1, 2012
meanwhile, in the game that actually matters to us...
the Bills are up 21-0 on the Patriots. As long as the Steelers win, our road to the AFC Championship game is completely doable. Baltimore, Houston, Pittsburgh.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
I think
Pitt loses today
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
that would be bad
The Bengals have been terrible against teams with good TEs, and the Patriots are all about the Gronk.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
shhh
it’s the playoffs
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
i kinda wanna see ben plays because I dont think his ankle will be fully healed the reast of this year
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012

Jets game only matters to us at all if we lose today

yet I did see a fan post in the pre-season who did just that, thought it was silly at the time though
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
there were a few of us that predicted 7 or 8 wins
with 10 a possibility, just based on the defense and schedule
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
yep
and I thought you guys were nuts too…congrats
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
hahaha
and dont forget the lose to the texans lol
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
I did =)!
I predicted 10-6 and to split with both balt and pitts so I was a lil off and one win from reaching 10 lol!!!
Dwight Carter - January 1, 2012
Jets are making it look easy
joeb69 - January 1, 2012

Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
anyone know if any of the saints running backs are free agents?
Chris ivory and Pierre Thomas both look like they could be stars on a team who would use them more.
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
i thought
pierre thomas was a free agent after this year
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
I know Michael Bush is.
I would take him over most Free Agents this year, and I could see the Bengals making a run at him.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
+ 100
and draft Pead in 3rd
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
i couldn't agree with that more

Would love to chant...
“You got pead on”… LMAO
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
+1
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
I bet he falls to 4th, maybe even 5th.
But if we are going to take a RB, i would take Polk out of Washington. We would need to take him with our own 1st round pick, but I think he would be worth it.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
not after the combine
almost gaurantee it
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
can polk catch better than peaD?
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Haven't watched Pead enough,
But Polk is a monster out of the Backfield, can Run you over, or run right past you. Good RB, lots of potential.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
yea pead isn't the most powerfull running back but he has great vision and good hands
i think he would be worth a shot in the 3rd round, we will have two picks in the 3rd
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
i think we need
a top cb before any offense, maybe two….and a OG in the second
shortstopv2 - January 1, 2012
Agreed, this draft would be much easier if we had like 5 first round picks...
Would let us take care of OG, S, CB, OL, RB and Maybe even a WR for good measure… Trade away Andre Smith for 3 first round picks anyone?
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
Thomas
Signed a four year deal before the NFL lockout.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
Ivory
Won’t be a free agent until after the 2012 season.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
yup
palewook - January 1, 2012
lots of RBs in this game I'd love to have
Thomas, Ivory, and Williams could all step in and immediately win the starting job in Cincy. Maybe even Stewart. If Cincinnati actually had competitions for who got the starting RB job, that is.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
oops
forgot Sproles
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
RE:
Still prefer a back from the draft. Much cheaper and less wear, IMHO
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012

doesn’t have that much wear

Just the way you phrased your response… a man with a dirty mind is going to laugh.
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
ah, ok, got it...dooooh
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
yup rundmc is their guy
bush who is averaging under 4 yards per carry this season is held responsible for most of whats ailed the raiders in the 2nd half of the season. that and the d-cord. who will be fired once the season ends.
palewook - January 1, 2012
thats why i like thomas and ivory
Shouldn’t be a huge contract and wouldn’t have a lot of wear, but I see there is no chance of them this off season.
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
fa rb in 2012 is a little thin (once you look at who will be tagged)
forte, rice, hillis probably dont even hit fa market.
leaves the top fa rb at: bush, slaton, lt, and benson
palewook - January 1, 2012
justin forsett is a free agent too
Wouldn’t mind him. Doubt we pay big money to bush, and would love to do a committee type deal with a rookie, free agent, Leonard and peerman.
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Wish I could watch this game on TV. Listening to these Jets commentators on the radio is annoying.

AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
I'm pretty confident whoever their QB is
the only AFC playoff team that I don’t think the Bengals can beat is the Pats. Everyone else they have a good shot at
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
agreed
our offense couldn’t hang with the Pats
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
who would cover Gronk?
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
mays
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
hahahahahah
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
I think mays could hang with gronk if played man on him
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
holy shit, you were serious?
dude, lay off the video games. Mays couldn’t cover Whit.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
I think the problem with mays is that he isn't that smart
so i think you take out thinking for him as much as you can will make him better. But from what I heard from the coaches he did a good job of covering the TEs.
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
smarts may be part of the issue..
but we know a MAJOR issue with him is he has the turning radius of a minivan. No hip swivel, no change of direction ability. You can’t cover NFL receivers & TEs by running in a straight line every play.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
lol i don't think Gronk is going to break mays hips
dont get me wrong, gronk is quick for his size but Mays would be able to stay on top of him easy…
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
maybe we'll see
or maybe Mays will continue play almost exclusively on kickoffs, where he can run fast in a straight line and hit someone hard, if they don’t move out of the way.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
i agree, mays needs to show more but its what i said before
take the thinking out of for him and just let him blitz or cover man to man. I don’t care if the offense knows that he is blitzing the majority of the time because they still have to stop it
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
and i don't think he can be much worse than crocker
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
fair point
they are kinda similar
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
and
Hernandez and Welker?
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
And Edelman and Branch?
Yes I left Ocho out for a reason ;)

pacman on welker, jennings on Hernandez
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012

would manhandle jennings
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
IDK do we have a LB that could keep up with him?
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Thomas Howard
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
probably not

i think
pacman would be a good matchup for welker though
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012

beat out Whit for the pro bowl????
joeb69 - January 1, 2012
its a popularity contest.
palewook - January 1, 2012
I think that's just because
people remember the hype during the draft when he went 3rd or wherever it was. Pro Bowl doesn’t have much to do with what happens on the field, especially if you play a position that doesn’t rack up big stats
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
I'm liking all these false starts on the Jets!
WhoDey3626 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
False start........lmao
keithp - January 1, 2012
Titans have taken the lead.
10-7
Josh Kirkendall - January 1, 2012
go titans
palewook - January 1, 2012
Actually
I wouldn’t mind the Titans winning only if we win. That means the Texans will be going into the playoffs with a 3 game losing streak. That could play in our favor..
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
doesn't matter to us at all who wins this game
unless we lose and the Jets win
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
Titans/Texans has absolutely no effect on Bengals.
Bengals beat Titans in a head to head, so they have playoff spot ahead in a tie, but in a 3way tie, Titans take the playoff spot. Titans affect the Jets, but not Bengals.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
Right
but like I said a 3 game losing streak going into the playoffs is bad for a team. If we win ours today, then that could play in our favor for next week..
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
10-3 Jets
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
well if the dolphins can find a way to get a score before half, they will have a pretty good shot at winning
jets haven’t been that good of second half team this year
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
I'm off guys
WHO DEY, heading to the game

AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
side note
Panthers just tied up with the Saints at 17. This is a fun team to watch. If they had more than 1 decent player in their front 7, they’d be dangerous.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
very fun game to watch
Panthers will be serious contenders soon.
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
oof
Panthers have no pass rush at all… that’s a bad way to be when you’re up against Brees
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
they signed all there defense to huge contracts
And they are horrible on defense. I find that amusing.
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
who do they have in their front 7?
Charles Johnson is hurt if I remember right, haven’t heard his name. Dan Connor is a decent MLB, otherwise there isn’t a guy in their front 7 I’ve ever heard of.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
they just signed both their outside backers
Cant think of their names off hand
JCompton41 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
this game is so ugly
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
I am not sure why people are rooting for Houston
While the game doesn’t affect us, it does affect the Jets. If the Titans were leading by 21 at the half, the Jets might collapse knowing their season is over. Personally, I think that would be much better than them thinking they have a shot.

Not sure what it is now, maybe still Knee/Leg? Otherwise I have no clue.

don’t know if that’s still the issue

I think they are worse than how Percy has them.

Any opinions on Moore?
It’s the second game of his I have watched, and he seems to have a nice presence and a good arm. (I realize the first pick was a shitty unforced bad pass, but hasn’t been awful)
supergrover - January 1, 2012
yea he is not that bad, he has a pretty decent arm
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Your right
he has some potential…
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
he's alright in New Orleans system
not sure if he would be good anywhere else.
Bengals need to pay M. Colston, that guy is a stud
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012

Matt Moore, not Lance Moore
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012

WhoDey3626 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
weird
the announcers are talking about Saints backup QB Chase Daniel. I hated the guy because he was great at Missouri and I hate Missouri more than Baltimore, but I’ve always thought he’d be a good NFL QB if someone gave him a chance. He’s kinda short, but he’s a playmaker.
First time I’ve heard anyone else say good things about him regarding the NFL, though.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
is he playing?
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
nope. Standing on the sidelines holding his helmet to his ear so he can hear the play calls
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
anyone have a connection with Roush or the Smoking Man?
we need them lo let the Bills win this one
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
if jets dont make the playoffs this season and next season, do you think he will get fired?
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
rex ryan that is
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
I doubt it
The OC, DEFINITELY
I’ve thought he was the problem since they were on Hard Knocks
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
really wish they would have scored that TD... nice play Revis
supergrover - January 1, 2012
Newton continues to impress
They’re really missing Otah and I think they’ve had a few other o-linemen on IR. Newton keeps geting pressured and keeps playing smart. Occasionally he takes off running for a big gain, but usually he drops a soft pass perfectly over the shoulder of the tailback, meanwhile 3 Saints are milliseconds away from slamming into his chest.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
wow its not even a game lol 45 to 17
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
was 24-17 at the half
Newton, Smith, Williams, and Stewart are great. Everyone else.. ugh

AMAS85 - January 1, 2012

indesignkat - January 1, 2012
and sanchez just sucks under pressure
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
Anyone else cheering for the Titans?
If, God forbid, Bengals lose and Jets win, I don’t want the Jets going to the playoffs.
(Plus, of course, if the Bengals do win, it’s better if the Texans are on a three game losing streak.)
miniglik - January 1, 2012
if the jets lose, we need the broncos or oakland to lose to automatically get in
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
I know
I just don’t want the Jets to go to the playoffs, and they’re automatically out if the Titans win, no matter what else happens. Titans winning or losing doesn’t affect us, so I’m cheering for them to keep the Jets out, either way.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
i'd rather not play any team on a three game losing streak
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
i think the texans would be an exception
AMAS85 - January 1, 2012
let's hope (if they lose)
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
My brother is a die hard Titan's fan
So there is no way I can root for them to make it. If they happen to make it, and Bengals dont, I will never hear the end of it. I would prefer to see OAK/DEN to both get in, get to watch Tebow be demolished by an actual team, and have the off chance that OAK makes the championship and we get that 2nd 1st rounder.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012
lots of record breakers in this game
Brees for passing yards, Graham for TE receiving yards, Sproles for all purpose yards, Newton for rookie passing yards, Newton for rookie rushing yards, Newton for rookie TDs

AMAS85 - January 1, 2012

elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
depends who wins the pick
not sure colts would trade the luck pick, rams probably would.

I’ll bet they take Luck and unload Manning
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012

palewook - January 1, 2012
Polian said:
“IF manning plays next year, it will be in an Indy uniform.” To me, that is saying that he might play next year, but will not be traded/released. My guess is he plays for a year, retires, and Luck takes over.
Alexneyer - January 1, 2012

We beat the Titans and have the edge on head to head
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
The Jets HAD to win
for the Titans to get the playoffs. THey lose all other tie breaks.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
If a Jets win gets them in
Why wouldn’t Raiders & Broncos wins do the same?
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
Because of the way the tie breaks fall.
Jets HAVE to win for the Titans to get in.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
that's not so
The Titans have the best conference record of all the teams that can potentially finish 9-7. If 3+ teams finish with that record, the Titans are in. Doesn’t matter if it’s us and the Jets or us and the 2nd place 9-7 team in the West.
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
It is
Because it takes BOTH Oakland and Denver winning, and if they both win, Oakland gets in over us. So Tennessee can’t hurt as any way after the Denver loss.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
with their recent losses I don't know that they still have the edge
but they need oakland AND denver to win, and for us to lose, for that to matter
indesignkat - January 1, 2012
however
Don’t we need the titans or the raiders to lose if we don’t get past the ravens?
Oregonbengalsfan - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
right
that’s what I thought
occams_tiger_teeth - January 1, 2012
titans don't matter unless raiders and broncos win
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
oh yeah
Raiders and broncos
Oregonbengalsfan - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
We need
The Jets to lose and either the Broncos or Raiders to lose. Titans can’t hurt us in any scenario if Jets lose.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
I rather play the Texans with a 3 game losing streak...
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
extra point 23-16
WHYUS!! - January 1, 2012
Yay!
miniglik - January 1, 2012

people underestimate how good that team is
they’re going to finish the year with over 500 total points scored.
occams_tiger_teeth - January 1, 2012
yeah
it would take a miracle for the Bengals to beat them
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012

supergrover - January 1, 2012
lol
palewook - January 1, 2012
I do not want to bring in any negative energy but.....
with the Jets loss what needs to happen if we don’t get it done today? A Denver or a Raider loss?
JUNGLEJOHN - January 1, 2012
correct
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
if we lose
and the raiders and the broncos win, we’re out.
palewook - January 1, 2012
Right
If we lose and one of those two lose, we’ll still be in.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
Just heard the commentator say
that if the Titans win and Bengals lose, the Titans are in the playoffs
OhWell - January 1, 2012
He's wrong
We beat them head to head. Jets had to win for the Titans to have a shot.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
Ah
Or I guess they could get in if Oakland and Denver both win and we lose. If that happens, we’re out anyway.
miniglik - January 1, 2012
he's wrong
Titans are in only in a three-way tie
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
Ok
He just said that if Bengals lose and both Raiders and Broncos win, then Titans will be in.
OhWell - January 1, 2012
i think the Titans are done now that the Jets lost
elguapo09 - January 1, 2012
Texans are going for 2 and the win
