The Cincinnati Bengals Will Select 17th In The 2012 NFL Draft

With the playoff teams largely set, with one game remains on Sunday Night Football between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, the 2012 NFL Draft order is set amongst non-playoff teams. By sending Carson Palmer out to the Raiders, Cincinnati acquired Oakland's first round selection for the 2012 NFL Draft.

According to our very own SB Nation, the Bengals will select 17th overall for the 2012 NFL Draft. Cincinnati will have a second first round selection later in the draft depending on where they finish in the postseason.

Star-divide

As for whom the team will select, it's premature for now. But the favorites range from the secondary, offensive line and running back.

The Indianapolis Colts out-sucked the St. Louis Rams for first overall, fueling fire to the Andrew Luck sweepstakes that will mind-numbingly debate the benefits of trading Peyton Manning or keeping the Hall of Fame quarterback while Luck develops.

The Cleveland Browns are projected to select fourth overall and the rest of the top ten is really a whose-who in the top ten of every recent NFL draft.

The prospect of RG3 being there for Cleveland at #4 frightens me.

Griffin is the real deal; he’ll be a franchise-saver for whatever team drafts him. I hope to God Washington decides they need to move up for Griffin. I dread playing that kid twice a year for the next decade. I also hate the fact that I’d have to root against him for the next decade.

I'm a little more worried about B Roethilsberger
Don't worry

Cleveland will manage to ruin him like so many before

thats what everyone said about Dalton
so we will have the 17th and the 32nd pick this year, not to bad.
17th is great.....

But looking at the mocks, it appears there is a pretty big drop off of talent around 15.

For example, if I were to pick 3-4 players I’d like to have, I’m not sure any of them fall to 17.

that's why scouting matters so much

Look at the Pro Bowl players, I think 60 of 76 were drafted in rounds 1 thru 3 (10 drafted in later rounds, 6 not drafted at all). SO you have to HIT HOME RUNS in rounds 1 thru 3, but you don’t necessarily need to be in the top half of round 1.

Uh oh

And one of our two scouts just retired

There is always the possibility of trading up

Maybe a team like the Seahawks or Jets might be willing to move down a few spots to pick up an extra 4th round pick.

Someone always reaches for that workout warrior.

Someone will fall. Janoris Jenkins maybe? We will get two really good players, or trade up using those two picks for a top 10 pick. Morris Claiborne maybe?

At #17 we're probably looking at........

Jenkins. Would have been much higher pick without legal issues at Florida, but will be there at #17 because of. Have mixed feelings about due to this. Dennard will also be there, not as high an upside, but minus off field stuff.

If there's a better OL option like DeCastro (if he somehow falls)...

You take him. The CBs from Dennard, Jenkins, Hosley and Minnifield (all projected to be in that 20-32 range) don’t have ELITE stuff. Always take the BPA.

Agreed.......only problem is DeCastro won't be there.
Not so sure about that. I could see him falling.
Jenkins is a top 10 talent. If he would have went to the draft last year he would have been drafted in the top 10!
Oakland's 1st round pick

We’ll be getting Oakland’s pick. Where does that fall?

#17

Thanks I thought it went by record. Since the Bengals are in the playoffs I’m hoping for the 32nd pick. Thanks Mike Brown for no. 17.

Don't have a name but

Do have a need. The Ravens kicked our butts at the line of scrimmage. OL and DL is where they need to focus for the entire draft.

DL???

The strongest point of the team needs to be addressed? Don’t take one bad game into account. It’s the big picture.

Kse

Is absolutely right. OL I can see but biggest needs are CB and RB by far. DL is tits

good chance they lose a few dlineman

So a 3rd or 4th round on dline is a need if you ask me

I think only one is a FA.

That’s fine. You can address that in mid-rounds or FA. DL shouldn’t the focus of the entire draft as the guy suggested.

3 rucker fenene sims
Need to resign Fanene imo and maybe Sims too,

but if we can get Derek Wolfe from UC in the 3rd round that would make me very very happy.

yea

I know not the entire focus, but we need to replace what we lose to keep the dline strong.

We didn't beat a playoff team all season

Its not one bad game. It’s a bunch.
This was as bad as any. 222 yards rushing by the birds. That was on the dline primarily.
Online never bossed anyone around either in this game or any other.
Both lines are competent but not dominant. Both need to get better players.

Concerned that Cleveland might pick

Griffin or possibly Richardson with #4. Depending on how much faith they have in Colt McCoy.

Not liking the idea of either of those two lining up against us twice a year.

If Richardson somehow falls to #17 we’d be pants-on-head stupid to pass him up. I realize that RBs only have about 4-5 good years in the NFL before they drop off. But if one or more of those years are Superbowl winning years because he is present, it’s worth a 1st round pick. And I think he has the potential to be that important to whatever offense acquires him.

If Richardson it there we should take him

If not and DeCastro is there we take him.

Cleveland

As I said above, I would hate for RG3 to end up in Cleveland. But, I could see a team like the Redskins throwing multiple picks at St. Louis or Minnesota to move up to draft Griffin.

How about this scenario…..

Cleveland trades their #4, Atlanta’s first rounder from the Julio Jones trade last year, plus Cleveland’s first rounder in 2013 to Indy for the #1, and Cleveland drafts Luck.

If you’re Cleveland, would you make that offer? If you’re Indy, you could get Peyton back, add Morris Claiborne at #4, and grab Devon Still or Dontari Poe with the Falcons’ pick to fill the 2 biggest needs on the team, plus add a first rounder next year. Do you make that trade?

If I was Cleveland?

Hell yes I would.

At this juncture I would trade both first round picks to get Richardson.
I've bEen thinking the same thing

It just doesn’t seem right because of all the other needs.

#17 is perfect. Hoping for a CB, G, G, or G.

Unless Richardson is there, then take him. Obviously I’d prefer a higher pick, but there’s a ton of value in high-teen picks.

We need a Cb n RB

Look what ced did to us all year in the red zone , when we were on the 1yard line pathetic. He is done this year. I agree that we need to obtain a new cowbell, someone that can really ring it. Ray rice just crushed us, we couldn’t answer. RB, CB,and OLINE…..

i to think ol, rd, cd, also wr in no paticular order just best player available at one of those spots when our pick rolls in
i to think ol, rd, cd, also wr in no paticular order just best player available at one of those spots when our pick rolls in
Mark Barron

We been looking for a Safety for awhile. The last two drafts we have drafted a need plus best player available at that position. I think we draft Barron here.

Gerhart

Lately I’ve liked the idea of the Bengals trading for Toby Gerhart. He’s run hard with Peterson being out, and been pretty good on a bad team. He averaged 4.9 yard per carry and 8.3 yards per catch this year. Bengals wouldn’t have to pay him as much as a Forte or Bell (or even Richardson).

The only concern I have is his pass catching ability. Haven’t been able to watch Vikings games, so I’ve no idea how adept he is at that part of the game. His stats seem decent, and he actually has more receiving TD’s than rushing TD’s.

Anyone else like this idea?

I like the idea of trading for a young RB

I just think you picked the wrong guy.

I’d check the price for C.J. Spiller. He went for 5.2 yards per carry, and caught 39 balls at 6.9YPC this season. Fred Jackson will be back next year, and the Bills have needs along both lines.

I like the idea of evevating Peerman to feature back..

Trade Benrd Scott for a Draft pick and use it to acquire a late round overlooked talent.
