It wasn't until Jason Campbell's injury against the Cleveland Browns that Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson contacted the Cincinnati Bengals, inquiring what it would take to trade for quarterback Carson Palmer, who was already in semi-retirement. Eventually the trade happened and the Bengals received a first round pick in 2012 and a second round selection in 2013. And the Raiders got their starting quarterback. Everyone was happy.

At one point sporting a winning record (4-2) before the trade, the Raiders finished their season at 8-8, including a 38-26 loss to the San Diego Chargers during the regular season finale that would have earned a berth into the 2011 NFL playoffs.
At the end of the season Oakland hired former Green Bay Packers executive Reggie McKenzie, who would be tasked with many of the duties once held by the recently deceased Al Davis.
One of his first acts, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, was firing Hue Jackson on Tuesday. Jackson spent one season as the head coach, taking on a promotion from offensive coordinator to head coach following the firing of Tom Cable in 2010.
This makes it all the more juicy if Jay Gruden is hired as a head coach elsewhere, opening the offensive coordinator position for Jackson with a game of the century of the decade of the year anticipated when Oakland visits Cincinnati next season.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......
Hue jackson as the new OC if Gruden leaves??? He’s who I wanted to replace Bratkowski for years, anyway. Not a chance in hell he gets another HC offer anytime in the next decade. What better way to make SOME sort of positive out of his decision than to come back and coach up the players we’ll take with the picks he gave us?

i thought about it other day outloud on the forums
someone convinced me hue aint right for dalton. since hue has never ran a wco, seems a little unfair to stick dalton with hue
palewook - January 10, 2012
Hue did a pretty good job running Oakland's offense with Campbell and their power running game
The Carson trade was one of the worst executive decisions I’ve ever seen, but he wouldn’t be making any decisions like that here. He coached one of the best receiving corps in the league during his time here and dealt with all their BS. I dont’ think the offense he was running in Oakland before Campbell went down was THAT much different from what we’d run here if we got an elite RB.
eric nyc - January 10, 2012
Didnt take Palmer long to get him fired
No thanks him and Marvin have no discipline ,false starts out the ass
keithp - January 10, 2012
Best move they made though
At the end of the season Oakland hired former Green Bay Packers executive Reggie McKenzie, who would be tasked with many of the duties once held by the recently deceased Al Davis.
Hired a guy from a winning organization to RUN THEIR ORGANIZATION. What I would give for Cincy to do that!!
occams_tiger_teeth - January 10, 2012
death of the owner
featherman - January 10, 2012
I don't want Hue back.
I’m not impressed with him at all, and don’t know if Marvin would want him back either. But regardless the Cincy-Oakland game will be a big one. The question though is will Carson Palmer be playing for Oakland in the game? The Raiders owe him alot of $$ next yr, and with little to no draft picks it makes sense to cut Palmer, and use the massive cap space for FA signings.
redrifle14 - January 10, 2012
He re-negotiated his contract
It’s pretty small now. I want to say something in the $3-4 million range if I’m not mistaken? There won’t be anyone available in free agency for that price that’s any better than him, and lord knows they can’t draft anyone. The only name that could be close is Jason Campbell, and if I were him I wouldn’t return Oakland’s phone calls.
eric nyc - January 10, 2012
not like the raiders are going to be able to trade palmer for anything either.
the fins or skins might give up a 4th or 5th round pick for palmer..
palewook - January 10, 2012
That would be hilarious.
eric nyc - January 10, 2012
Wouldn't it though
I would laugh for days
Helmsy - January 10, 2012
Palmer to sunny South Beach for a conditional 5th rd pick.
And a 7th rd pick in 2014.
FLMAO!
redrifle14 - January 10, 2012
Palmer in a 1 hour ESPN show:
“I’m taking my talents to South Beach!”
DTFCPDX - January 10, 2012
With Zimmer!
keithp - January 10, 2012
Had to laugh when I heard the news.
I bet Carson Poo Poo and Houshmandzadeh said a collective “oh sh*t!”

Haha!
sgiridharan1982 - January 10, 2012
LMAO
Love the idea send theThree Stooges to Miami Hue, Hou and Poo Poo
messjunk - January 10, 2012
I think Palmer probably encouraged this
Even though Hue had his back, and got in back in the NFL
The guy has to be frustrated playing for these half-ass coach’s
keithp - January 10, 2012
Hue should come back and make our WR's Core one of the best with AJ,Jordan Hawkins Whalen and Simpson
Touhue Cha - January 10, 2012
I think Hue just got a bit too big for his britches in Oakland.
He even wanted a say in who they hired as his boss. I would consider him as OC but not with as much enthusiasm as some here might. To be honest I don’t think either Gruden or Zim are going anywhere this year.
JUNGLEJOHN - January 10, 2012
Exactly
He seemed very smug.
D-Day77 - January 10, 2012 via iPhone app
Hue Send us a 1st and a 2nd
and when they fire you we can still use the picks… -Mike brown
Bengalsfan024 - January 10, 2012
I wonder if McFadden would have made a difference if he was able to play with Carson this year
AMAS85 - January 10, 2012
It's all Collusion
Hue and Marvin had this deal set up when the trade went down knowing Hue would be fired with CP9’s performance(or lack thereof). Marvin promised Hue the OC job as payoff for the draft picks. A truely Brilliant move. Now we will get Michael Bush in FA.
sofakingood - January 10, 2012
So Hue purposefully made a move he knew would kill his career as a head coach?
So he could come back and be a coordinator working for Mike Brown?
I heard they shot the moon landing in a sound stage, too.
eric nyc - January 10, 2012
well i heard that it was @ area 51
but apollo 18 tells it different.
Bengalsfan024 - January 10, 2012
Comedy v. Tragedy v. Fiction
sofakingood - January 10, 2012
I heard Jerome jumped over the moon and stuck the landing.
DTFCPDX - January 10, 2012
Hue colluding trade false....fake moon landing true
laibach - January 10, 2012
Gruden is way batter than Hue,Andy couldnt understand Hue
keithp - January 10, 2012
Is anyone else thinking about the last time 2010 when marvin
coached in his final year of his deal?
do we really want that again?
Bengalsfan024 - January 10, 2012
Doesn't matter what we want
it’s what we get
Oregonbengalsfan - January 10, 2012
Just Freaking coach
Worry about your contract when its time
It was Marv’s choice to only re-up for 2 years
So i’d make him live with it
keithp - January 10, 2012
I like Hue
but would rather have an OC who brings a WCO and similar terminology to the table the Gruden has. This is only assuming Gruden is named a HC, which could happen.
Keeping similar offensive language, concepts, etc will only aid in the development of the young offensive players.
If there no one available who can fill that void if it becomes available, then I’s probably prefer a promotion from within and would lean towards the WR coach since he has the WCO experience from Philly.
Cedric Benson Boat Party - January 10, 2012
I really think Gruden is coming back next year.
AMAS85 - January 10, 2012
i'd prefer that
and would like it to happen.
Cedric Benson Boat Party - January 10, 2012
I hope so
Stanley1 - January 10, 2012
I think so too
I think him coaching an offense that finished in the bottom third in the league will steer people away. He’s not shown near enough to be a head coach.
JCompton41 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Hell he is going to be HC here before long
Better get used to it
keithp - January 10, 2012
I wanted to go to the Raiders site and ask them what their mock draft looked like so bad. :-P
Bigcatdaddy - January 10, 2012 via Android app
They do have some comp picks ask them about them
messjunk - January 10, 2012
I'll pass
Bigcatdaddy - January 10, 2012 via Android app
can't trade comp picks
Oregonbengalsfan - January 10, 2012
So unfair for Hue
Dude never got a fair shake. His QB went down early, his star RB was out most of the season, his WRs had injuries all year, his DC was a joke, and he still got them to 8-8. That gets you fired nowadays? OUCH.
steve henderson - January 10, 2012
Raiders are renouned for strange moves
Maybe Hue new his head was on chopping block and CP was last ditched effort. How’s another coach going to change much no draft no salary cap room. Glad to be a Bengal we have very few problems at the moment compared to some other teams
messjunk - January 10, 2012
But who picked his DC?
Did he inherit Bresnahan or pick him based on “knowing him” from Cincy?
occams_tiger_teeth - January 10, 2012
Probably picked, Bresnahan was Jay Gruden's DC in the UFL before last year.
DTFCPDX - January 10, 2012
How does Bresnahan manage to stay employed?
WTF the guy stinks everywhere he goes.
occams_tiger_teeth - January 10, 2012
His Team set a NFL record for being undisciplined
keithp - January 10, 2012
The Raiders have been undisciplined for years.
Pardon_My_French - January 11, 2012
Well your making my piont
Hue comes in,rather than cleaning things up!
He sets the ALL-TIME record
keithp - January 11, 2012
The Raider fans are pretty upset
They were even talking about bringing in Flynn or trading for Kolb. One guy even though they could get a 2nd rd pick for Palmer.
Bigcatdaddy - January 10, 2012 via Android app
Leave it to CP to join the one organization more dysfunctional than the Bengals
emeybee - January 10, 2012 via mobile
I really don't think this is a dysfunctional move
1. Owner/GM dies, mid-season.
2. Offseason, they hire a guy with a good NFL pedigree from a great organization, to be their GM.
3. GM takes one look at the coach and says “he’s not my guy”.
What’s dysfunctional about that? It’d be more dysfunctional to me if ownership dictated to the GM what coach he had to keep or if the GM dictated to the HC what assistants he needs to keep. That’s more like the Bengals do it!
occams_tiger_teeth - January 10, 2012
LMAO
keithp - January 10, 2012
The Karma continues for Cincy
Gruden back, Palmer in a mess
Just need Ocho to drop a few passes this weekend and get Tebowed
TX Bengal - January 10, 2012
hahaha...I hear that...come on Tebow!!!
pemci - January 10, 2012
I can only imagine how Oakland fans must be pissed...
Palmer wanted out of Cincy, and he got his wish…now he has to learn yet another Offense… Beware what you wish for, you just might get it, but not in the way you think….
pemci - January 10, 2012
I think Palmer will probably have his best season sense KIMO
He hasnt never played with a real HC,if the raider’s bring in a reputable coach
