The Miami Dolphins remain vigilant in their head coaching search with heavy implications regarding Cincinnati's defensive coordinator. Most of the information we've heard and received tends to suggest that Zimmer is a huge favorite for Miami's vacant head coaching position. That being said the Dolphins are planning to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, according to the Miami Herald.
The Dolphins also might interview one or more additional candidates, with Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael among others who have been discussed internally.

Why in the world is this relevant to Bengals fans, some might wonder. Complete conjecture on our part, but has some relevance. If Mike Zimmer were truly at the top or near the head coaching candidates, convincing Miami's front office that he's the man for the job, why would the Dolphins continue their search? Perhaps Zimmer is Jeff Ireland's backup plan, both of whom worked together for six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
Sure. It's a matter of due-diligence from Miami's perspective, assimilating a list of head coaching candidates before making a final decision on which head coach will lead the team into the future. A good move for a team needing a good head coach.
At the same time if the Dolphins were that impressed by Zimmer, wouldn't they have hired him by now?

I really think Miami wants to go with a more Offensive-minded HC.
Otherwise they would have made an offer to Zimmer already.

Zimmer is out....stays in Cincy!
I think !

If not Miami then Tampa Bay
Bengalsfan024 - January 16, 2012
Think both teams will go offensive types
sofakingood - January 16, 2012
fins like that quirky offensive system crap
perhaps they tap tebows wingman and we’re spared another team from taking one of our coordinators.

Yeah, I could see Miami going Philbin or Carmichael

Should it raise a red flag for us
That other teams interest always seems to wane after they actually sit and talk with Zimmer?

Nah,
There are too many hot offenisve coordinators around. You have the O.C’s from the Packers and the Saints. Those guys should be hot commodities.

If they were gonna pick Zimm
I think after fisher signed with the Rams if they were gonna go Zimm it would have been the day fisher was off the table

i agree...

My sources are telling me
that Zimmer will be coaching either here in Cincy next year or in another city.

Ha I get it. +1

I'm starting to wonder if the whole "Zimmer is favorite" story actually started here...
Were we all just really paranoid? I seem to remember one headline on ESPN very early on saying he was the favorite, but even that might have just been conjecture since at the time they had just interviewed him and Fisher. Maybe we’ll get lucky. Everyone thought we’d lose him after 2009, too…

The most selfish part of me...
Hopes he doesn’t get an offer and that this is the last time he puts himself through this. He’s been frustrated by the lack of offers for a long time now. With this many openings and this much interest, if he doesn’t get an offer I wonder if he’ll resign himself to being a coordinator and accept a huge contract extension.

It could certainly work in his favor
Just ask Jay Gruden. ;-)

I think if Miami liked Zimmer so much they would have hired him…. I think he stays in Cincy another year.

There are apparently "rumors" that
Zimmer is leaning toward TB
But there were “rumors” about Fisher too…
Oregonbengalsfan - January 16, 2012
I believe TB has interviewed more candidates then
Any other team. I’d say Zimmer has a 1 out of 8 shot of landing that job.

Tampa bay will make more sense than Miami
Since Morris was a defensive coordinator before he became the HC for Tampa and probably has the right personel that Zimmer maybe looking for. The only thing Zimmer would be missing is Crocker lol.
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
If Zimmer leaves
he can gladly take Crocker with him
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
I think both Miami & Tampa want offensive guys
