The 2011 NFL season isn't quite over yet but that doesn't mean that it's too early for a mock draft. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that you can find a mock draft for the 2014 season somewhere online. There are only four teams, the 49ers, Ravens, Giants and Patriots, who don't have set draft positions yet, but we do know that the Bengals are set with the No. 17 pick (from Oakland) and the No. 21 pick.
SB Nation's Ryan Van Bibber's latest mock draft has the Bengals filling two important roster holes in the first round.

With the No. 17 overall pick, Van Bibber predicts that the Bengals will select Alabama running back Trent Richardson.
Cedric Benson is a free agent. They could re-sign him, but they could draft a much better running back with Richardson. The Alabama product would come cheaper too.
First off, I would be somewhat surprised if Richardson fell to No. 17. However, if he did, I honestly believe that the Bengals would be better suited drafting an offensive lineman with their first pick in 2012, specifically a guard. Van Bibber had David DeCastro from Stanford going to the Cowboys with the 14th overall pick, but if he was available when the Bengals go on the board, I think they should take him instead.
After all, if the Bengals don't have a good offensive line, it won't matter who the running back is.
With the No. 21 pick, Van Bibber predicts that the Bengals will select Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.
Watching Johnathan Joseph help turn the Texans' fortunes around had to be bittersweet for the Bengals who let him walk in free agency. They need help in the secondary. Pacman Jones is a free agent, and Dennard represents like a solid upgrade.
I like the pick of a cornerback in the first round. There is no question that the Bengals need an upgrade at cornerback. Nate Clements isn't terrible but he was just a stopgap after the team foolishly let Joseph walk away. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that Leon Hall will be 100 percent when the season starts and without a new cornerback, the team could find themselves in the same situation they were in late in the season.
The Bengals have a lot of holes to fill but they have the picks necessary to do so. It should be an exciting offseason.

None sense
With the No. 17 overall pick, Van Bibber predicts that the Bengals will select Alabama running back Trent Richardson.
Um .. Negative. We must address the offensive line first.
Then with the 2nd pic we can go running back…….
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
If he's there
we take him and get O-line with one of the next 2 picks
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Or we've also already partly addressed O-Line in FA
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
If Richardson is there take him.
Unless DeCastro is available. I have seen Richardson available far more often than DeCastro. Then take Corner at 21, either Dennard or Gilmore, then address guard in the second.
jim0ijk - January 17, 2012
I agree
if he is there you have to take him
Helmsy - January 17, 2012
Agree also.
Don’t pass on him if he is there. I don’t wanna live to regret it.
Ben-GAL - January 17, 2012
Very smart
Some on gets it.
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
O-line
Does not matter who we have in the back field with out have a smash mouth offensive line…. We all should no that by now.
We need a Blue chip – offensive linemen first … who can help the run game AND protect Dalton long enough to complete more throws down field and not have to run for his life.
Against our division foes … we absolutely need to a address this asap.
2nd: I feel (Richards…Wont be there. when we pic) . Lamar Miller, RB, Miami (Fla. ……
Has way more speed and the ability to take it to the house ….. That’s what we need in the back field .. after we address the offensive line.
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
Point still stands
you don’t pass RIchardson if he’s there
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
He wont be
He wont be there so its a mute point.
And we will take Decastro first then another rb next
Case closed.
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
LOL No telling
don’t get all bent just cause you think we shouldn’t take him… “Case closed”… yah yah… Oh wait.. I guess you know it all, so we should all defer to you
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Hu ?
I am in no way shape or form bent ???
I’m very excited about this draft. And I’m just applying some *Common Sense
with my feed back… ( other teams need vs who will be available .
You know … things you know when you actually apply those variables.
Keep doing what we’ve been doing and expect different results… That’s the definition of insanity.
Why dont we revist this thread after the draft….\
so silly ….
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
Bent
Such finality… shows how bent
We’re all very excited about this draft, but to act as if you know who we are drafting and who is going to be there, is NOT using common sense.
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Right there with you, Oregon!
Luke - January 17, 2012
Right.
No one can predict who is going to be there, but I think it’s valid to discuss if he is there, if we as fans would like to take him. I say yes. I have watched the guy play a lot, and he is not easy to bring down. We need that back who is gonna fight for more yards. Hey, maybe we could convert more 3rd and ones, lol. This is one of those players you don’t pass up if he is there, and it is a big IF.

Correct
You say moot.
I say mute.
Any questions ?
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
Clearly if you say mute
you are the one who should be asking questions…
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Yeah, what is a MUTE point?
What you MEANT to say was moot. Saying mute is wrong, and pretending that mute is correct is just dumb… like I said below, I just love people like you who say something and then just because you said it, it is correct… without ANY reason other than its what YOU said.
Luke - January 17, 2012
Dont get mad
Don’t get mad at me because you chose to conform to how your school system told you what to say and how to say it.
Last time i checked its a free country and i can say anything i want and how i want to say it.
Stay classy … If you can
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
Oh wow
Yeah clearly not worth it
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
You're absolutely right.
Everything you have ever said and will ever say is absolutely right.
And I’m trying to stay classy… I really am… just try to bear with me.
Luke - January 17, 2012
He keeps saying it because he's trying
to convince himself to stay classy… and failing
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
No need
No need to go back and forth.
I speak plain English.
Deal with it.
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
You speak your own English
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
And as for revisiting the thread after the draft
I’m all for it. If you are right, I’ll gladly eat crow. Most likely, neither of us are correct. I’m just not going to try to come off as the ultimate authority and say how it IS going to happen.
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Thank you
For correcting my posts for me .
My child.
Now as i was saying..
Im a Bengals fan first and foremost.
And i stand by my words……
Watch the Draft ….
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
No problem, Dad!
Just the belittling attitude I was talking about… No one is questioning your fandom haha… does that have anything to do with anything here?
So then since you stand by your words, you are saying that, yes, you’ll come back and apologize for being a dick if the Bengals don’t take DeCastro and then RB with pick #21 like you said it WILL happen case closed?
Luke - January 17, 2012
Hu ?
I have no ideal what your talking about.
I’m being honest in my options and have done my due diligence with my out come of the first 2 pics in the first round…….
Look around buddy.
People want to win around here.
So dont get mad, Cause im not….
Im happy.
Good Day.
O-ya ..
Stay classy.
77CincyRage - January 17, 2012
You REALLY have no idea* what I'm talking about?
You’re attitude that what YOU say is right, and that what anyone else says otherwise is wrong CASE CLOSED as you put it… It’s hard to lie when we are on a forum and can go back and look at everything you just said word for word… I’m just wondering if you will come apologize for acting like a pompous dick if what you say will happen “case closed” doesn’t happen…
Luke - January 17, 2012

should just zip it instead of making a fool of yourself
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Decastro will be gone by our pick IMO
bnglsfan - January 17, 2012 via mobile
I like how you say
Richardson “Won’t be there so its a moot point” (yeah I fixed it for you)
but then continue on to say that we will take DeCastro with our first pick and take RB with #21… I’ve seen more mocks that have Richardson fall to us than DeCastro. Based on the mocks I’ve seen its a lot more likely that DeCastro will be gone than Richardson… And then say case closed like its all done… And then try to belittle people and say that you are just applying common sense and other people are basically just stupid… It’s just dumb… Just as much a chance that DeCastro isn’t there so what happens then if he’s gone? gonna come back and apologize?
Luke - January 17, 2012
Thank you!
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
Hello
I never called any one Dumb … You did.
I chose to give some reasoning behind my selections that’s all.
If you chose to take it that way then .. Eat it the way you like it.
Stay classy Cincy.

No your post just blew off any possiblity but yours
so it was implied… So yes… to you… stay classy
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
I love people like you
who just say things and then because they said it, its true… Go ahead and try to pretend like we are too dumb to understand what you were saying, or even worse that we are dumb enough to buy into your bull that that isn’t what you meant in the first place. We all know what you are saying… we all know that you are being a dick about it. No problem, we will just see if your prophecy comes to fruition, oh mighty and all knowing one!

Dalton, Green, and Richardson. Wow! That could be similar to the trio Dallas had in the 90’s. With Gresham being in the mix it would be exciting to watch.

A guy like Richardson doesn’t come along very often. This draft is deep at G and CB. We can fill those with the next two picks. If Trent is off the board, I’d take Miller at 21.
EarthwormJim - January 17, 2012
F____
gives Miller to Cleveland….
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
I did not like seeing that....
However, the are reports the Browns are thinking of trading down on the board. I don’t know if it would include the 22nd pick or not…
pemci - January 17, 2012
CB/S/G then RB
we got needs, if richardson falls to 17, gamble he’ll fall to 21.
palewook - January 17, 2012
Can’t argue with taking Richardson at 17. He’s a “Blue Chip” player at a need positions. Bengals should run to the podium with their card.
I sort of like Dennard. He’s #27 on my board, so this isn’t a reach. I just like Stephon Gilmore more. Think he would be a better fit also. Dennard is, at best, a #2 CB.
Joe Goodberry - January 17, 2012 via Android app
I was trying to find how Dennard and Gilmore compare to each other...but
somehow ended up on a Bills site….
pemci - January 17, 2012
lol
Helmsy - January 17, 2012
he's the third ranked player on most big boards
if he’s there at 17 and we DON’T take him it would be a waste of a draft pick, you can always get Konz at 21, who I actually like better than DeCastro because of his versatility
joeb69 - January 17, 2012
Can't really argue with the positions they draft,
The Texans showed us what it takes to beat the Ravens and Squealors. Real good running game, real good line play on both sides and of course a shutdown corner somewhere. Don’t really need a good QB.
Drafting Richardson and a corner in round 1 is a big first step. Then with smart FA and drafting, the Bengals will have what they need to beat their division rivals.
BENGALS69 - January 17, 2012
I agree
Im hoping ravens win it all this year because I think Ray and Ed will retire. Plus a superbowl slump next year. and I think the Steelers are in some trouble because Ben is not going to last too much longer if he keeps getting hit like he has been the past couple of years… I think is our time to captilize in FA and the Draft to build on to a team that can dominate the AFC north for many years…
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
A buddy of mine does some work for Ray in Fla.
He said he says if he wins it this year he will retire, otherwise he will come back for one more year
biggie22 - January 17, 2012
I hope he gets it this year, because I have a feeling he would play until his body cant take it any more
then we can sign him as our LB coach next year lol
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
i would rather
he play till he’s 90, he’s already hurting B-more, can you imagine how bad he’ll be in a year or two???
joeb69 - January 17, 2012
I actually like some of the players on the Ravens
Suggs is my favorite….I love this guy…he is kind of a loudmouth but he has been respectful to the Bengals and after watching him in the final game of the season….I wish it was our Rey….but its Suggs….period
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012

or top 5 at least

thats good
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012

I sure do find it easier to root for them than the Steelers.
Ben-GAL - January 17, 2012

I can see Dallas doing something big in this draft
they have to….The Texans will own that state after Schaub and Williams return
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
yep
ive been saying for years now that they should go a different way than Romo. I think one more bad year or not making the playoffs they will go for one. Might as well get him now while you can. I had a feeling that they would have traded up if Cam fell far enough last year.
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
Yea I can see them doing something like that
Helmsy - January 17, 2012
yeah
The cowboys have to feel that Romo is getting older and its time to refresh the franchise with some new life…Romo is just not getting it done….Hes kinda like Palmer.. Some good games and a lot of yards, but just cant do it in the big one….
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
and with their fans
you have to be perfect every game
Helmsy - January 17, 2012
I know from being down here that Jerry loves him some Romo
but ultimately he wants to win and get money from it. So whats a good way to market a team? An athletic QB with a rocket arm. People would go crazy down here.
I know they will be calling for his name by the end of next year if they don’t do anything in playoffs or just don’t make it.
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
I agree
If they could get their TX QB from Baylor….wow…That would be the 24 hour news story for the entire summer……
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
lol true
Baylor is like 3 hrs from dallas I think. I passed it once. But a few years back, I was hoping Dallas would take Colt McCoy and last year I was hoping for Cam to fall to them. So I guess 3rd year is the Charm. Deppending how good he does in the combine and interview there is a chance dallas can pull the trigger.
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
You live in Texas now?
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
ive been in texas for almost 3 years now
Dallas specifically
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
cool
I bet it was nuts when the Mavs won
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
yea i was kinda pissed actually
since Ive been down here, the mavs won a championship and the rangers been to two world series. Not too mention the super was down here two years ago. I feel like I brought luck to dallas and it pisses me off lol
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
I can see them waiting one more season
One more year under their current HC and then possibly get the QB out of Oklahoma. Jones is big on sooners. Garret and Romo will be gone if they fall short this year.
Bigcatdaddy - January 17, 2012 via Android app
I agree
There are a lot of new GMs and new coaches that are looking at Cam Newton and Dalton and are ready to go get a top QB
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
Makes sense...the Rams need a WR bad....
I can see RG3 going to the Browns. Colt McCoy did not do much this past year, but he did not have much help either.
pemci - January 17, 2012
hope not
Do ya’ll wanna face him for the next 10 years?
Ben-GAL - January 17, 2012

I think miller at 21 is TR is not there….or David Wilson in the third or fourth would be value with an upgraded OL
Toasted_Orange_Monster - January 17, 2012 via mobile
David Wilson will be late 2nd or early 3rd probably. I've seen some mocks have him going before Miller actually.
Luke - January 17, 2012
I think he's a 2nd round pick, one that I like a lot actually
Mexal - January 17, 2012
I love all the people that are always saying "take BPA" all the time
and then they say they’d rather take Konz or Glenn with pick 17 than take Richardson because without a good oline it doesn’t matter who is running… Richardson is top 5 on most boards, he WILL be the BPA no matter what, AND he is a position that is our 2nd or 3rd biggest need. You HAVE to take him at 17 if he is there. If Kirkpatrick was still there at 17 you’d have to think about him instead, MAYBE think about DeCastro. But CB and Guard are deep in this draft. There are lots of 2nd round guards and CBs that barely have any dropoff from anyone that we could take with pick 17. It would be silly to pass on Richardson… especially if it’s to reach for someone like Glenn or Konz (even though I wouldn’t mind either if Richardson and DeCastro are gone).
Luke - January 17, 2012
Wel said
jim0ijk - January 17, 2012
Bingo.
steve henderson - January 17, 2012
took me a sec to realize
what the hell BPA was….lol…but in fact…the bengals have taken need in first round for many years..I’m with you on the O-line….This is a NEED…MY OPINION…at pick 17…we take the BPA at CB, OG/OT, RB….one of these three…maybe Barron…..
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
Agree to an extent
I’d take DeCastro ahead of him but not Konz or Glenn, mainly b/c I think with teams behind us we coud still get him with the 21rst pick if both him and DeCastro were available but we would have no shot of getting DeCastro with the 21rst pick.
biggie22 - January 17, 2012
Really like the picks
We’ve addressed RB and CB
2nd Round – Guard – Osemelle or someon like that
3rd round – Trumaine Johnson CB/S – can paly both safety or CB
Rest of the way down best palyer available (DL&WR)
biggie22 - January 17, 2012
okay this is my thinking

I remember when another player was arrested for Marijuana and
his stock plummeted on draft day, however, Sam Wyche saw enough that he took a chance on him, that player: Warren Sapp
In fact, for an offensive “genius” that Wyche was, he drafted Warren Sapp, John Lynch and Derrick Brooks for TB
pemci - January 17, 2012
Imagine if he had still been in Cincy, with his high-powered offense
and these draft picks…
pemci - January 17, 2012
Im guessing
he wanted to become a Bengals so he got some Marijuana so he can be a Bengals
Touhue Cha - January 17, 2012
nfl.com posted a 4 way mock draft on 1st round
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2012/mock-drafts?module=HP11_cp
palewook - January 17, 2012
If you click "More Projections"
there is a 5th mock through the first round and 3 more through pick 10
Oregonbengalsfan - January 17, 2012
if Dre Kirkpatrick (busted for possession last night) is still on the board at #17
do you take him with cincy’s 1st pick?
palewook - January 17, 2012
Am I a hypoctrite if I says yes to Kirkpatric but no to Jenkins
biggie22 - January 17, 2012
i am too
i am too.
palewook - January 17, 2012
But but but
Jenkins got kicked out of school!
TCfromDubVee - January 17, 2012
Yes...
Remember J-Joe was also arrested for possession of marijuana when he was with the Bengals. If he is a team player and willing to put the team first, I think you have to say yes.
pemci - January 17, 2012
this is tough
we just cleaned up our locker room…We have guys like Dunlap and Simpson that come in and buy into the system….why not…..talent is talent….I would put a lot into the interview at the combine or some type of personal read on this guy…Is he a humble kid that just gets in small-time trouble or is a thug???
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
Jimmy Smith .....Ravens
just sayin
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
Warren Sapp...is another one you can name....
pemci - January 17, 2012
or the other 50 percent of americans who smoke
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
lol
whatever do you mean…………….
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
lol
i just going off of what I know. And What I know, is most people who do it, dont admit it. And when they do it, its only with people that do it. Its kinda like a secret society/ black market. So the few who don’t do it, believe the hype about it and think its the worst thing in the world.
what ever “it” is.
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
also
he was busted with a small personal amount… I know about 50 people that have gotten busted with small amounts…not that big of a deal…..not like Sam Hurd type sh____
ticalcaldwell - January 17, 2012
sam hurd was trying to become a billionair.... so freakin bad
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
take kirpatrick & jenkins with both 1st rd picks
Getting 2 of the most talented players in draft at where we are picking is a steal. Both can shut down any receiver in our division hands down. I might can argue that they’ll be better than the Hall/Joseph tandem. I wouldn’t address offense till later rounds.
pray4gm11 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
move hall to free saftey?
AMAS85 - January 17, 2012
na
He still a starter in this league. If Clements wanna return he gotta move to safety and I think that be brilliant idea. Hall, Nelson, Mays, and whoever we take in 1st rd will be starters.
pray4gm11 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Don't know about Jenkins
But if Kirkpatric falls taking 2 stud CB’s in the first may be intriuiging, you could still get a quality guard in the 2nd and pretty good RB in the 3rd.
biggie22 - January 17, 2012
why not?
Before his problems at Florida don’t forget he was hands down best CB in college. Kirpatrick wasn’t in same class him that’s how good Jenkins is. Don’t know if Jenkins can return but he is better cover corner than Peterson who went #5 last year.
pray4gm11 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
I read an article talking about how Jenkins didn’t even play well in division 2 ball. I think we’ll pass.
ddbumpus - January 17, 2012 via mobile
whats well?
The guy is a playmaker, 3tds off returns for year. Even blocked a fg. Plays with great confidence and swagger. If Zimmer stays I don’t think his character issues a be a problem for us.
pray4gm11 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
i'd love 2 stud cbs in the 1st round
move nate to ss, resign nelson at fs, draft a g in the 2nd, rb in the 3rd. resign collins as our rt, move smith to guard, bring back bobbie as depth. off we go into 2012
palewook - January 17, 2012
and we still a have money to play with
Clements moving to ss a be like getting 1st rd safety. We need to sign G/ DT or DE in free agency also. James in our offense a take us to another level also.
pray4gm11 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
mike Adams?
maybe we could give him a go at guard or right tackle? he’d be another option for the line at 21 potentially.
ddbumpus - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Don't know much about Richardson except the title game.
Can he block?
Because any back in the Bengal’s scheme is going to have to be able to protect Dalton on passes against the Pitt/Balt blitz packages or he’ll never see the field.
IllinoisBengal - January 17, 2012
Amazing blocker
Joe Goodberry - January 17, 2012 via Android app
Kids the total package
He can block, great speed for his size, and can catch out of the backfield. He reminds me of Michael Turner or Rice. If he pans out RB’s like him don’t hit FA. I’m all for a guard but if Richardson is there we have to take him cause the only way you get a back like this is through the draft or you luck into a UDFA.. Guards can be had all through the draft and FA.
