There's a decent chance that Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton will be in the Pro Bowl this season (Tom Brady has to win today to make that happen), which would be icing on the cake considering that Dalton was able to lead his team to the playoffs in his first season in the NFL. He may be out of the running for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award since Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton had such an incredible, record breaking year, but that doesn't mean Dalton will go home empty handed.
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy, Andy Dalton was awarded the Emerging Player Award by the NFL Players Association during the NFLPA PULSE Awards on Friday.
Dalton received the Emerging Player award, which was voted on by fans. The other nominees were New Orleans TE Jimmy Graham, New England TE Rob Gronkowski, Carolina QB Cam Newton and Detroit DT Ndamukong Suh. The Emerging Player award recognizes a rising star showing performance, character and maturity. The awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles.
Considering the seasons that Newton, Gronkowski, Graham and Suh had, this is a pretty big award and Dalton should be proud of himself. Hopefully he can build off his rookie season in 2012 and do even better.

I posted this in a dead forum, thought it was relevant to the Cam/Andy debate.
Huh? AJ Green helped Dalton, true.
Green finished ranked 10th by football outsiders. Steve Smith finished 15th.
However, the Panther’s 2nd highest guy, LaFell, finished 32nd. Simpson finished 57th.
TE was a wash, w/ Shockey being barely better than Gresham (24th to 26th), however, Olsen ranked 36th, the Bengals had no other TE near that.
As far as offensive lines: Carolina was ranked 5th, and Cincinnati 20th.
Running backs? Jonathan Stewart was 4th (5.4 yards a carry) and DeAngelo Williams 8th (also 5.4 yards per carry).
Benson? Ranked 45th (averaged 3.9) and Scott 46th (averaged 3.4 yards per carry).
Carolina’s offensive weapons are much better than teh Bengals weapons. Carolina’s offense sucked last year b/c Smith was hurting and Jimmy Clausen was horrific.

Great points….I will say again…Dalton has the greater skill set that Cam…I know Cam is the great athlete…(and I agree..he is), I just think Dalton has a higher ceiling than Cam….GREAT POST GRIZZ

the reason why the Panthers Offense is ranked so high this year is because of Newton
The Panthers scored 210 more points on offense in 2011 then in the year prior
Cam Newton is directly responsible for….210 points

who knows nothing about baseball can use those same tired arguments.
Also Green has made many great catches for Dalton as well. Cam Newton did a pretty good job against Houston, but a similar argument can be said about Dalton against a top offense. Let’s see how he fares when he has to engage in a shootout and needs to put up 25+ points just to have a chance to win.
Don’t worry though hopefully those Reds actually attempt to retain Votto when his time comes and not cheap out

It has nothing to do with the Reds cheaping out. Smaller market teams don’t have the money ti throw around like the spankee’s do. I love it when NY spends big and still comes up short. The Redlegs are going to make a run at it this year with probably half the money by using their farm system and a few trades. You can take any Yankee team you want and I’ll take the Big Red Machine and send your ny legends packing.

They have all the money in the world to spend on FA if they are willing to, people forget that the Yankee franchise was utter crap under CBS ownership, Steinbrenner bought the team put his own money into the franchise and continued to do it every chance he got (which considering the past 30 years, he did a lot) Many owners don’t do that and refuse to do it, and only now are some starting to get the right idea and spend. Don’t worry about NY going after Votto, they already have a 1st Baseman

This is a great award for him because he won it on character.
It clearly wasn’t on numbers, because Newton and Gronkowski had historic seasons stat-wise. But Newton was constantly hamming for the cameras and Gronkowski was seeing how high he could spike footballs. I don’t necessarily have a problem with either of those things, but Dalton did what he did with a really quiet dignity that is hopefully going to set the tone for an entire organization. Gronkowski and Graham dont’ have that responsibility, Newton still seems a bit childish, and they couldn’t actually give Suh an award with the words “character and maturity” in the description. So nice win, Andy. You deserved it.
