Rutgers Head Coach Emerging As A Possible Candidate For Buccaneers Head Coach

Another candidate is emerging for Tampa Bay's open head coaching position that hasn't otherwise been mentioned yet. According to 620 WDAE in Tampa Bay (via Rick Stroud for the Tampa Bay Times) the Buccaneers could be favoring Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano as a candidate for their vacant head coaching job. No confirmation has been made and only 620 WDAE in Tampa is reporting this.

[Note: Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network confirmed that Schiano is under consideration]

Star-divide

Previous reports suggested that there were two candidates remaining for the open head coaching position in Tampa Bay. One of them we know is Mike Sherman. The second was widely believed to be Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. It's possible that Chudzinski isn't it at all and that the team is making one last effort to bring in another established college head coach.

As for Mike Zimmer, mum continues to be the word though this all. However it appears that the Buccaneers are slowly favoring an offensive-minded head coach, already eliminating Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and interviewing Sherman with rumors of Chudzinski possibly receiving a second interview. However before Schiano became Rutgers head coach, he was a defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes from 1999 and 2000 and a defensive coach with the Chicago Bears before that.

Oh YAY!!

Another candidate. Just hire someone already.

U gotta fell bad 4 zim
Seems a little out of the blue.....
What an embarrassment for Tampa Bay Fans

Rutgers is AWFUL. How they could hire this tool over Zim is amazing. Welcome to the cellar Tampa Bay

So....

They go through ALL of this, give everyone the run-around and then out of the blue hire him??? Weird.

+1, I think we're seeing why TB is currently in the cellar.
Why the hell do they keep scouring the college ranks though

As much as I get trying to bring in young, hungry coaches, I don’t see the point in completely limiting your search to them. Zimmer and Chudzinski are both efficient coaches and would do well in the organization, yet they kept bypassing them for college retreads.

Don't understand that either, but am happy for us!

Feel bad for Zim, he’s gotta be scratching his head right about now……..
