Someone, we're not exactly sure the name, at the Cincinnati Enquirer offered a response to the Houston Chronicle's article, twelve reasons why the Houston Texans will beat the Cincinnati Bengals, taking those 12 points and offering rebuttals to each. It's an uncharacteristic publication from the Enquirer, who generally offering neutral journalistic quality. Even Paul Daugherty's postings aren't so much excitable as they are reflections and reactions.

One of the points that the Cincinnati Enquirer made during their rebuttal was in response to Jerome Solomon's seventh point writing:
7. Connor Barwin: The game has special meaning to him, as he played college ball in Cincinnati. Bengals are weak blocking on the edge, so he could have a big day.
This, as they say, goes in Reavers territory, turning a promised list into endless reaches to keep said list continuing that should have died long ago. The Cincinnati Enquirer's response:
Bengals are weak blocking the edge? There is nothing weak about Andrew Whitworth, who has consistently been on of the best tackles in the league. And Andre Smith has held his own. That’s why the Texans could only muster one sack in their last meeting. And if you want to go with the special-meaning, hometown angle, we’ll go with Katy, Texas native Andy Dalton.
Well said. Let's offer more.
According to NFL's Game Statistics and Information Systems, the Cincinnati Bengals are averaging 5.09 yards/rush when running the football outside of the left tackle box -- generally speaking, where Connor Barwin lines up. Additionally the Cincinnati Bengals have allowed only 25 quarterback sacks this season -- eight less than the Houston Texans, who the Houston Chronicle writes as "the best in the business."
Football Outsiders ranks Cincinnati as the fourth best pass protection unit in the NFL with an adjusted sack rate of 4.5 percent sack rate -- compared to Houston, who ranks 22nd with a 7.3 percent sack rate.
Houston's offensive line is very good and three members could have made arguments for the 2012 Pro Bowl. But as our friends at the Cincinnati Enquirer writes, the "Bengals had five sacks against the Texans in their last meeting". Cincinnati also registered another five quarterback hits on the quarterback and six pressures.
So kudos to our Cincinnati Enquirer friends for sticking up for the Cincinnati Bengals, turning a rah-rah posting from the Houston Chronicle and knocking it out of the park. Enquirer 1, Chronicle 0.

In all fairness
Jerome Solomon is an idiot. He’s our Jason Whitlock.

He seriously calls himself
King Solomon?

lol.
Let the writers scribble what they want. This game is going to come down to the wire.

To be fair, our right guard played more than a half of the game with a broken leg
His protection was bound to suffer a teensy bit.
Generally speaking, we at BRB ignore the staff writers of the Houston
ComicalChronicle.Plus, that list really only needed one entry.
1. Andre Johnson’s Berserker Playoff Rage
Karsh - January 3, 2012
Has he ever been in the playoffs
Or is this speculation he’s going to go off?
Throw the ball - January 4, 2012
most of the houstons papers points were horrid.
Weak blocking the edge? Houstons amazing oline? DANIEL MANNING? Wade Phillips vs Dalton, Zimmer vs Yates maybe? Can give them Andre Johnson, but other than that it all can either fit cincy too, or makes no sense.

Hey Guys - yeah, we don't like the Crapicle
and Solomon is an idiot. I don’t believe he watches the games – just the highlights on ESPN.
I see a close game. As they should be. There shouldn’t be blowouts in the playoffs – these are the 12 best teams left.
That said – I really want to beat you guys. I don’t want to go 1 and done.
Kidaster - January 3, 2012
Good stuff
Should be one hell of a game. Good luck to you guys.
steve henderson - January 3, 2012
should be a tough game for both teams
2 young qbs against 2 tough defenses. That said, I really hope the texans first playoff trip is a short one.
JCompton41 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
I think its in the by-laws
that admission of reading the Comical is a bannable offense at BRB.
JMFC - January 3, 2012
At least their not being trolls
Last game a bunch of texicans came over and talked smack. No need for it this game cause we gave them the last one and it’s not likely going to happen again.
Bigcatdaddy - January 3, 2012 via Android app
ya it was a bad week leading up to last game
A ton of Texas trolls, at one point during the last game I thought about logging on and rubbing it in. I am now VERY glad I resisted that impulse, But oh boy would I love some payback this week. On the field, not the blogs.
keithster - January 3, 2012
On behalf of those trolls I apologize
we usually keep our scathing remarks for the opposition on our blog, but the season has excited some of our less tasteful boys and made em a little giddy. I’m excited for Saturday, we know y’all are a better team then you get credit for. That being said, Houston’s waited a long time for the playoffs, so expect trolls if win
TheLastDynasty - January 3, 2012
Knock it off.
As a native Texan and a person who finds racist language unacceptable, I find your REPEATED use of some form of “Mexican” as a way to be derogatory towards Texan fans to be outright racist. Knock it off, you make Bengals fans look bad, and you sound like a douchebag.
miniglik - January 3, 2012
Also
You were more subtle here, but since I’ve seen you previously refer to the team as the “Mexicans,” the way some people refer to the Bengals as the “Bungles” the racial insult is implied and not accidental.
miniglik - January 3, 2012
I never in my life
Heard a Mexican play the race card
Maybe that has changed with all this border talk
keithp - January 3, 2012
WTF?
I hope your not talking to me. I’ve never called the team mexicans before. I’ve seen it and thought it was funny not racist. I live in San Antonio and my wife is from Monterey. I got Texicans from her and have herd many of my friends say it not as a racial slur. Get a fucking scents of humor. You guys jump on here and drop Bungles anytime but you can’t take a little ribbing.

“It’s going to be so funny when we send the Houston Mexicans home.”
by Bigcatdaddy on Jan 2, 2012 2:56 PM EST
care to revise your statement?
dqniel - January 4, 2012
uh
miniglik is not a “you guys”, in both fashions.
She’s a bengals fan.
And your defense is of the “well, they call themselves n*****s, so why can’t we”. Much like a James Harrison accidental hit to the facemask, your approach was unnecessary and fraught with risk. Why try it?
supergrover - January 4, 2012
except for one thing…she is taking offense to a word that the proper description of someone from Mexico. To say that “Mexican” is a derogatory term for a…..uh….Mexican..is going way over the line of sensitivity
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
no she isn't
She isn’t saying “mexican” is a derogatory term. She is saying that he is using it as a derogatory term.
If I call someone a kitty, that’s not a derogatory term but I might, depending on context, be using it as one. She feels that Bigcat is using Mexican (and texican) as a slur.
supergrover - January 4, 2012
Ok, fair enough. I can’t say I agree in any way, but I’ll leave it where it’s at.
I guess it’s all in how you take it, and I’m used to being around a diverse group of people that don’t take offense to these types of things. Especially “texican” or Mexican.
But, that’s neither here nor there…as you said, that’s an in house issue. My only real issue is with sir/maddam “holier than thou”
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
Maybe I misremember, is Houston in Mexico?
supergrover - January 4, 2012
No…it’s not. However, there is a VERY high Mexican population in Houston.
I have to hear crap all the time because the city I was born has the highest concentration of Arab/Middle Eastern people in the world….I couldn’t imagine that affecting me if someone made a joke about it (again)
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
excuse me, I meant “in the country” not in the world..obviously
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012

One of the racist posters is trying to get my post flagged for commenting on the racism. Awesome human beings, there.
miniglik - January 3, 2012
Yes, I'm familiar with him
Intelligence and logic are his natural enemy.
Well, they would be if he knew what those words meant.
emeybee - January 3, 2012
Don't you hate it when
fans of your own team are creeps?
miniglik - January 3, 2012
Sure
But just be thankful we’re not Steelers or Raiders fans. At least here they’re by far the minority.
emeybee - January 3, 2012
right…back to your security blanket “Steelers fans suck” Of course, let’s ignore the fact that you ARE the type of people you are attempting to condemn in order to suck up to someone.
Don’t worry genius, I’ll explain…
You just had a problem with people generalizing others with their “racism”
you followed it up with generalizing a certain group (s
Wow…you are so much better.
Of course, in the real world (where most of us live) that’s called being a hypocrite, and therefore, more despicable than the ones you criticize.
Now…if you don’t mind (and trust me, I know you don’t) keep on whining, while lowering yourself to the very thing you claim to hate
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
the s after group should be in full parentheses
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
out of curiousity
Was I one of the racist people? If so all ment as sarcasm.
JCompton41 - January 4, 2012 via mobile
you’re right…all of the worlds problems can be solved, as long as we can stop making jokes based on race.
Forget wars, child slavery, pedophilia, mass murder, suicide bombers….if only we would never have to hear “Mexican” the world would resemble Mr Rogers neighborhood.
I support your important, and noble cause, you freedom fighter you!
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
just because other problems in the world exist
doesn’t mean the more minor ones should be ignored
dqniel - January 4, 2012
fair enough…however, the main point is…this thing here, is NOT a problem.
I lived in a very integrated environment when i was a kid. This type of stuff is not only common, but hilarious to everyone. The only people that get up in arms about it, are white people in segregated areas that think they are championing a cause of some sort It’s mostly out of guilt, or whatever…I don’t know really.
FrankWyt - January 5, 2012
in fairness, you are one of the most delicate little flowers I’ve ever encountered. You like to give the insults, stereotypes, condemnations etc…but you could never stand the finger of blame being pointed back at you…
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
uh
that was kind of a douchey post.
supergrover - January 4, 2012
Well. You could tell me why if you’d like, but I’ve seen emey’s posts for a long time. He/she always thinks they are above people…
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
lmao...
i tried to rec that response and i think i flagged it. anyways my page is stuck “loading…” and i’m out the door to work. sorry for the flag, it was unintentional.
70sav - January 4, 2012
Oh dear
I fear you are still upset that I called your QB a rapist.
Anyway, I’m not jumping back in this argument, because it’s stale now, but I really could care less where you stick your ominous sounding “finger of blame”. I can take as good as I can give.
But out of respect to the other posters who are wanting this thread to die I’ll leave it at that.
Have a lovely, delicate day.
emeybee - January 4, 2012
your fears are unfounded, just a general observation.
But..yeah..best to leave it.
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
so….referring to someone by the name given to them based on their nationality is racist?
A Mexican, is someone from Mexico…and that’s offensive?
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
referring someone derogatorily via a racial moniker can have racist overtones, yes.
supergrover - January 4, 2012
How? how is saying “Mexican” about people from Mexico derogatory? My heritage is from Sicily, but for ease of understanding, I just say Italian. Is someone being derogatory if they call me Italian? Or..let’s say I lived in little Italy in NY…and someone called me “Italian” based on that, that’s derogatory?
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
I’m not going to get into an extended back and forth on this with you. you disagree, that’s fine.
supergrover - January 4, 2012
Ok..I didn’t want to get into an extended back and forth either. A quick answer would have been fine, I’d just like to see your side.
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
Off topic
My son was expelled from school for a entire year
At 8 years old
For calling concentration camps,Jew camps
Because he had problems saying concentration
I appealed the expulsion, sure enough the guy in charge was wearing one of those beanies
Sometime’s people have to stand up for their race,i get it
Up until that point i’d never in my life ,never thought of Jewish as any different than
the guy next door.
keithp - January 4, 2012
expelled? are you kidding?
Wow…the world is way more sensitive than it was when I was 8
What did you have to do? Put him private school? Move? open enroll?
Geez man..that’s insane.
Even if he said it for a different reason..that’s extreme…
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
We transferred him to a different district
I’m still befuddled
I didnt even, and still dont understand what he done so wrong
The guy was saying the word"JEW" is derogatory
So i could understand that, but why is that word in the book my son is reading?
He is 16 now,and thats all behind us
keithp - January 4, 2012
Wow…unbelievable…. What ever happened to context? Even if out of context…Jew is a shorter form of Jewish…Can’t for the life of me figure out how it could ever be construed as derogatory..
But..as you said, it’s behind you. Still, I’m as befuddled as you. No warning, no detention/suspension…just expulsion? Nuts
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
They said that he had been warned about saying the word
To top it all off,
He was called on to read aloud in class when this all occurred
He wasnt very good at reading, got lazy and substituted “JEW” for concentration
The book itself refer’s to the “JEW’S” over and over again, saved the book for just cause purposes
He had a recent detention, that was unrelated
but other than that, their wasn’t nothing sent home,a phone call or anything
even making me aware this was going on
keithp - January 4, 2012
Uggh…ridiculous.
Out of respect for what JJ said, I’ll have to leave it here, but, I sincerely hope your boy is better off as a result of not attending that school…
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
He dropped a hard J
unacceptable (sarcasm font)
Joe27 - January 4, 2012
lol schools these days
like a i said before how could any one take anything personal on here? everyone is allowed an opinion and freedom of speech. If you don’t like something, the best thing to do is not respond because when you do it just drags it out….
and with your son being expelled, that is really riduculus, I feel like america is becoming soft and people are to worried about being politically correct. Words are only “words”, its the person who receives it who gives it meaning… so if someone is saying something you don’t like ignore it. Unless of course, you want to start something. I find it better to turn the other cheek because i think a lot of words are taking out of context because most of the time you don’t have a personal relationship with the person who said it. And may not know where the person is coming from…
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
Let it be
Supergrover- you’re being a real douche!!! Leave it alone. Nothing was meant in a derogatory way!
Bengalsredsvictim - January 4, 2012 via mobile
Frank and Grover, what I hate about all of this is that it distracts from what we are here for.
Yes racism exists. No we are not all racists. Racist terminology is used to disparage people. If you wnat to stop it – jusy stop doing it and ignore those who do. Hater will hate. I come here to talk football. How about we just stick to that? If you want to talk race and the problems associated with is, and there is planty of it, go to a forum where it is more suitable and do it right. That being said, lets get a sense of humor and stop being so sensitive. Often we are and I have been as guilty as many.
JUNGLEJOHN - January 4, 2012
Not a problem JJ. Sorry.
Also..what you just posted pretty much ended both sides of the argument (or should have at least)
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
so…If I were from Mexico…and there were people from the states that lived in my neck of the woods, and I called them "Americans’ I’d be an asshole? Really?
I would think there’s a certain word that starts with “s” for Mexicans that would be more offensive, but then again, i can never understand why people are so ridiculously sensitive about things that don’t matter.
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
It's all in the intent of the language
If you are trying to insult someone by calling them Mexican, you are using racist (in this case probably more ethnist) language.
If you are stating a fact that someone is from Mexico that is not racist.
jim0ijk - January 4, 2012
Real quick. One time.
Referring to Mexicans as “Mexican” isn’t a problem. Referring to the Houston Texans as the Houston Mexicans in the same way one might change Bengals to Bungles is. Get it? Because the implication is, at least in the mind of the author, that being called a Mexican instead of a Texan is an insult? Capische? Class over.
IgnatiusJReilly - January 4, 2012
Class over? Did I pass? I mean..I didn’t even get a test on the subject…
I do have one question though teacher. If you are insulted by being called a Mexican…couldn’t the problem lie in that? I mean..you’re basically saying that people assuming you are Mexican is a horrible fate…right?
I’m just messing around..I get it man…
FrankWyt - January 4, 2012
wait wait wait a minute?
what about the washington redskins?
where are all the native americans at? How come they aren’t in a fuss?
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
Kansas City Chiefs?
Florida State Seminoles
North Dakota Fighting Sioux
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
If you look around, you can find something to be insulted over…
Unbeliever - January 4, 2012
lol that was my point
its just a name and a word… dont let it get too personal
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
Seminoles and Sioux have given permission to use the name
Same with most college names.
There have been campaigns to change the names of the indians, Cheif ans Redskins. Since they are private businesses they are harder to change.
jim0ijk - January 4, 2012
ironically
Houston is just a really big Cincinnati lol IMO
AMAS85 - January 3, 2012
The vast majority of Bengals fans are intelligent and respectful
Like I said in a thread yesterday— don’t judge us by our idiots. Unfortunately several of them showed up in this thread.
emeybee - January 3, 2012
You have never been to a game have you?
keithp - January 3, 2012
Several actually
You’ve never been outside Ohio have you?
emeybee - January 3, 2012
There isnt the vast majority of any football fan base
Intelligent and respectful
I sure the hell dont want to root for that team
keithp - January 4, 2012
Your being respectful by calling people idiots?
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
Yes
It would be disrespectful to the majority on this site who are sane to be judged by the few who are not.
emeybee - January 4, 2012
Are you saying I'm not one of the sane?
I am just trying to clear up who your talking about.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
Nah
Your comment about “Texicans” was borderline, but I can also see your perspective. The internet isn’t very good for nuance.
I’m pale, but live in LA and most of my friends are various shades of brown. I can joke around with them (and they with me), but I would never say those jokes away from them because then it would be inappropriate and, to me, would feel racist.
These things are always touchy. But there was someone else commenting earlier in the week calling Houston “The Mexicans” in a very derogatory way, so your comment got you confused with him.
Even worse, keithp and his idiotic bigotry showed up to “defend” you, and it entertains me to harass him since he is so blatantly ignorant. You just got caught in the crossfire.
So, anyway… how about that Enquirer article? ;-)
emeybee - January 4, 2012
Lol
I liked it myself. We have been over looked and made fun of by the media for awhile now and for one of our own media outlets to respond in defense is okay with me. I know that the Houston papers comment was made for their fan base but this back and forth thing might draw a little more attention to the game. Since positive attention is one thing the Bengals don’t get much of it’s welcomed by me anyway.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
We were actually featured quite a bit on NFL Network today
They even talked to Whit. Of course, they’ll probably stop talking about us for the rest of the week now.
emeybee - January 4, 2012
I haven't seen the NFL network in awhile
And I must say I miss it terribly. For some stupid reason Time Warner doesn’t have it. I think it’s because they wanted to charge for it on a special sports package and the nfl wanted it to be free. I live in a neighborhood where they have a deal with the cable company, so satellites are a no no. It’s silly really but probably best for my marriage. Lol
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app

With a comment that was only ment to be derogatory to a team not race or gender. I’ve never seen anyone complain that we call the steelers, squealers, or shittsburg. I guess some peoples vaginas are more sensitive than others.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
We don't need your kind around these parts my friend.
So kindly log off and find a new blog to follow.
Throw the ball - January 4, 2012
Who the hell are you
To tell me I’m not wanted? And who is we exactly? This whole thing is like going to a sports bar and being offended that someone curses. There wasn’t anything said that was a racial slur. It’s pussies like you that make a big deal out of nothing so if you don’t like it you find another site to follow.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
I can deal bigcat. It is just easy for the discussion to get stupid in an emotionally charged enviornment
Guys like me, and throw (he is a good guy) try to keep the name calling and crap to a minimum so we can really talk football. Once the ratbird, shitsburgh and that kind of stuff starts it frequently turns the discussion away from football. There are lots of places to go to do the other stuff. Many here just like to keep it civil so we can do what we come here to do. Talk Bengals football. I don’t claim to speak for everyone – just for myself and I am sure lot of others here. As far as I am concerned you are ok I would just appreciate it if you keep the rhetoric civil.I am interested in your opinion about the team and the game and sometimes to other stuff just gets in the way. Thats all.
JUNGLEJOHN - January 4, 2012
Cool
I sincerely ment the apology. There isn’t anything I like more than talking football. I’ll just have to remember that their are some overly sensitive people and try to walk the politically correct line.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
that's a back handed apology
You didn’t apologize for what you said. You then took a dig at those you claimed to be apologizing to.
supergrover - January 5, 2012
I won't join the request to go away
but I certainly wouldn’t consider “I’m sorry you are such a pussy” to be a sincere apology.
“I’m sorry you are offended” is different than “I’m sorry I said something offensive”.
supergrover - January 5, 2012
Lol
Your beating a dead horse man. Look I don’t care what you think. Not one bit. All I did was word play with a team name, I see it everyday on here. I actually picked it up from another member on here but it was bad judgment for me to reuse it. It wasn’t meant to be hateful just playful, maybe that’s why I didn’t think twice. You sir don’t know me or anything about me and are only making things worse and dragging it out. I’m kicking myself for even responding to this overblown issue that would’ve died if it wasn’t for some just dragging it out. I didn’t say anything to you at all so why would you even respond? Do you like causing trouble?
