Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is sitting out of Wednesday's practice according to Bengals.com beat writer Geoff Hobson and the Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy. The reason? He's using a sick day:
All indications from #Bengals are that it is not a serious illness and is day-to-day and he's basically out sick today

Even with an agreement with the University of Cincinnati to use their practice bubble, the Bengals still practiced outdoors on Tuesday where temperatures hovered around the mid to high 20s with winds that made it feel like it was in the upper teens.
According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Dalton is dealing with an intestinal virus.
The Bengals are practicing at Paul Brown Stadium again on Wednesday.

Just wondering after reading this, is it really necessary to practice outdoors right now?
I understand the “brave the elements” argument and everything, but at those temperatures couldn’t we practice indoors at UC? Houston won’t be a cold weather game and we have to win first to make it to New England. So maybe practice outdoors that week, but seems unnecessary to me.
The Van Buren Boys - January 4, 2012
lol well we will have a leg up for when we play the pats next week....
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
I guess we're just thinking ahead........by 2 weeks, in the playoffs.
Bold strategy, let’s see how it plays out LOL……The volleyball team must have been practicing at UC’s indoor facility or something.
The Van Buren Boys - January 4, 2012
lol well thats the only logical thing I can think of
or Brown is being cheap for two reason. Doesn’t want to buy a practice bubble and less ice they need to use on players for injuries…
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
lol
I hope thats the strategy
ticalcaldwell - January 4, 2012
probably because its 5 degrees outside....
I’d take a sick day too… We’re playing in an f-ing dome,.. We need to practice inside!!!!!!!! Way to go Mike
Trevor 85 - January 4, 2012
It's mid-40degrees in Cincinnati.
That’s hardly impossible weather to handle. That said….go to the bubble.
KSE - January 4, 2012
That's the coaches call
They’ve got the okay to use the practice bubble so it’s on Mavin if they go there. I could be wrong on this and don’t want to start a huge debate but practice bubbles are not temperature controlled. I’m sure they’ve got to be a little warmer because your not in the wind but there ment more for getting out of rain and snow. I would like to see them inside this week as well but maybe theirs a method to Marvins madness.

He's been poisoned!
sabotage!
supergrover - January 4, 2012
I don't think it's weather.
I think he’s crapping himself.
supergrover - January 4, 2012
That's what I was thinking.
Could it possibly be nerves? If it’s a illness I bet the medical staff has given him more shots than a porcupine has quills.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
why would be too nervous to practice?
i understand its a big game, but he has played in a college BCS bowl game which I would imagine have more screaming fans then this wild card playoff game…
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
It was a joke
Your right Andy has been in some big games and has done some of his best work in them. All though I would put the NFL playoffs as a bigger game than a bowl game IMO.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
lol ok... i should have figured
AMAS85 - January 4, 2012
This is Andy Dalton here.
He’s cold as ice.
ddbumpus - January 4, 2012
Do we have a reason why they are practicing outside?
GET WELL SOON DALTON! We need you to be a full strength and have a good week of practice.
C1ncy4Life - January 4, 2012
Hope he doesn't lose too much weight then...
And man, I had a stomach bug last spring and couldn’t freaking shake it for a week. Mine was not a 24-hour thing, I think it was food poisoning. Hope he’s back tomorrow.
Israeli - January 4, 2012
Cheap ass mike brown build a damn indoor practice field!!
Bfritts45 - January 4, 2012 via mobile
wow that was fast only his rookie year
and he’s already been bengalized lol.
bengalinflorida - January 4, 2012
They guys are big boys...
playing in the cold is not a big deal, for years before Super-domes and practice domes and all that stuff footballers have played in some of the coldest of weathers….. they can handle it and if not then geesh go get a manicure and find a different sport.

For the money they make they should be able to afford some of the best thermal under ware. ;-)
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
I hear ya but
I have trained in the cold…Alaska, Korea, and even Iraq (yes it gets cold in the winter in Iraq), and I can tell you one thing….when it is cold…all you are thinking about is getting warm…period..your mind wanders and you pay less attention…this is a fact…I hope this works….I have to trust Marvin…he has gotten us this far
ticalcaldwell - January 4, 2012

Maybe his logic is that he hopes they’ll keep moving to stay warm. Who knows? I’m with ya, we’ll just have to trust Marvin.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via mobile
there is a bad stomach virus going around all over SW Ohio, no shit.
…ok, maybe a little.
75North - January 4, 2012
Train as we fight
dont now why we are outside…
ticalcaldwell - January 4, 2012
*know
ticalcaldwell - January 4, 2012
Lewis was just on Jim Rome...
said he’s hooked up to IVs, just to make sure he stays hydrated. But that he’ll be back tomorrow. He kinda laughed it off like its no biggie, but that’s what I guess we could expect. At least Rome said he expects Bengals to win, haha.
Israeli - January 4, 2012
thats what he did with Dunlaps injury...said he was trying to get out of practice
we saw how that worked out…this is different though…I’m just sayin, I have learned not to trust Marvin on the injury report…Hes like the opposite of Belichek when it comes to injury reports
ticalcaldwell - January 4, 2012
Yep, I hear that
Tomorrow morning will be big in terms of news on Dalton. It’s a tough day for him to miss reps. At least it doesn’t look like Dunlap is working on the side anymore.
Israeli - January 4, 2012
Yahoo is reporting Dalton has the flu....
“Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton missed practice on Wednesday with the flu, but is expected to be ready for a playoff game in Houston.”
Unbeliever - January 4, 2012
lots of chicken noodle soup.
bengalinflorida - January 4, 2012
Drink a bottle of whiskey and sh@t the virus out like the amish do
njbengalstat - January 4, 2012
Wild Turkey 101 should do the trick ;-)
Amish, hell I thought everyone did that. I just did it last month and I don’t know which is worse the hangover or the flu.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
I drink close to bottle a game. I'm not proud of it. But damn the hangovers r the worst and I can't stop sh@ting for 2 days
But the close loses r not that bad when ur blacked out. Jk
njbengalstat - January 4, 2012
That really sucks
I hope and pray he’s at 100% Saturday.
Bigcatdaddy - January 4, 2012 via Android app
Man.
We’re heading to a Gradkowski-Delhomme game by halftime!
KSE - January 4, 2012
That's gonna be ugly to watch.
