Bengals Vs. Texans: Wildcard Game X-Factor

For the second time in three years and for the first time as a wildcard team, the Cincinnati Bengals are going to the playoffs. They are set to go on the road to Houston where they take on the Texans on Saturday afternoon. The Texans were able to battle back after trailing by a score of 16-3 at halftime and defeat the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 14.

In every game there is that one player who has the potential to change the outcome all by himself and this game is no different. Here's a player from both teams who has the ability to change the outcome of Saturday's game.

Texans X-Factor: Andre Johnson

Star-divide

I don't have to tell you that Andre Johnson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He's physically dominating and has the potential to change any game he plays in. He stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 226 pounds (which means he weighs a lot more than the Bengals corners -- Nate Clements weighs in at 200 pounds and Adam Jones weighs 188) and he has the speed to be a deep threat. He's coming off three straight 1,000-yard seasons but will fall short this season because of a hamstring injury that has held him out for more than half of the season.

Johnson didn't play in Week 14 when the Bengals hosted the Texans, but he will be playing on Saturday and it makes you wonder if the Bengals secondary is good enough to cover him. The Bengals' best cornerback, Leon Hall, went down with a torn Achilles in Week 10 and was placed on IR. Now, Nate Clements and Adam Jones are the teams' starting cornerbacks and it's likely that one of these guys will be covering Johnson one-on-one at some point during the game.

Johnson has the potential to dominate the Bengals secondary which means he has the potential to change the outcome of the game on Saturday.

Bengals X-Factor: Carlos Dunlap

One way to limit the damage that Johnson can do to the Bengals secondary is to make sure that quarterback T.J. Yates doesn't have time to sit in the pocket and find his No. 1 receiver. Any quarterback in the NFL can pick apart a secondary if he's given the time to sit around and watch for his guys to get open and Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap has the potential to make sure that doesn't happen.

Like Johnson, Dunlap sat out of a handful of games this season due to a hamstring injury, and he also missed the Week 14 game against the Texans. He is the Bengals best pass rushing defensive end and if he can find a way to be in Yates' face every time he dropps back, the Bengals won't need to worry nearly as much about Johnson and it will free up some of the players in the secondary to do different things.

Dunlap's sack count is down this season than it was from his rookie season but before he injured his hamstring against the Titans in Week 9, he was doing an excellent job at rushing the passer and was ranked as the league's best 4-3 defensive end by ProFootballFocus.com. If Dunlap can play like that again, the Bengals defense will be much better off.

Any comments Simon????

I have never watched the show...

So maybe it is obvious, but, I don’t get it. Is Simon a Texas fan or something?

nothing really to get

i couldn’t really think of anything clever to say for Simon lol

Ahh.. I see..

It was just an X-Factor graphic to go along with the title of the piece. I got it now. The title threw me so I didn’t even get the X-Factor reference. Maybe I need a nap. haha.

bengals d-line needs to bring the kitchen sink

anything they have in the gas tank, needs to be used. there is no tomorrow if we fail today. that is the only thought they need to have.

this is a good test for the defense.

I just hope they don’t hold them back. Let them attack the QB and shake him up yearly.

You guys have some really good stuff over here. Here's a Texan fans view on (our) AJ.

He’s had two hamstring injuries. The first was a partial tear of the semitendinosus tendon, which was treated by completing the tear (it’s a non-essential tendon). This was during the Steelers victory. The second injury was just a pull of the other hamstring. This occurred during the Falcons game. He is by all reports 100% now.

As for AJ and TJ. They played the Jacksonville second half together (we turtled up for the win after Leinert went down because Owen Daniels was our QB after Yates), the Falcons first half together and the first series of the Titans game together. Andre had 94 yards in the Falcons game and he dropped another long completion.

TJ is very shaky short to intermediate, but his deep ball over the top is superb. Just watch the first series of our first meeting. A perfect ball to Jacoby Jones on the first play and an overthrow at the sticks to Walter on 2nd down.

Having Andre back makes 8 in the box a very dangerous proposition. Having Mike Brisiel back puts our running game back to full-strength (he broke his leg in the first half of our first game, but played through it). The only question is TJ, who led us on game winning drives against the Falcons and your beloved Bengals.

I’m not trying to take anything away from your team you’ve had a great season and a bright future. Hoping for a good game Saturday with no injuries!

Agree

Bengals have no backfeild. Bengals are suspect with game plan. What do they do. Bring 8 and expose their soft belly,Yates Was all over the Bengals last game. Foster had 41 on the ground and 33 in the air. Yates threw for 300. What about Tate? Do the Bengals have a shot at winning this game. Yes they do. Three TDs will give the Bengals a chance. Can Dalton do it is the question? Yates v Dalton is the game. Mike Zimmer must control the run, Dalton must control the air. Dalton has to consider the fact that Yates WILL EXPOSE THE

Frozen Thought. Hot words are healthy.

Just like Bal Or Pitt. Bengals have a weak belly with game plan. Do the Bengals stop the run or pass is the question. Bengals cant do both. Do the Bengals stop the run or can the Bengals stop the pass. Can the Bengals expect Benson to reach the next level blocking? Can Dalton put up points? No gamble here. Both are not up to Snuff. Its Andy against Yates. Houston gave Yates the keys. Will Marvin the Coach ever learn that the best guy on the feild is taking a snap under center. Will Marvin game plan not to score. Just give Andy the keys and lets see if Dalton can outscore Yates. It is this simple. This is called Mike Brown Football, Let this Young Man be the QB. Paul Brown gave the keys to Greg Cook. Cook beat KC and Oak. Will Marvin Lewis do a Paul Brown? Or will Marvin win games from the sidelines? Who is under snap? Who is in charge of this game? Will the Bengals prepare to win or do they prepare to keep it close? Hand the keys over to Dalton under snap Marvin. Lets see if Dalton can Beat Yayes?

Delholmme is starting tomorrow.
