As far as this game
I think I have said everything there is to say….I have studied every angle and every matchup about 10 times this week…..I love all my fellow cincyjungle fans that I have blogged with over this past season….It is the final countdown…………
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
just sit back and enjoy this guys
I am so proud that we are playing today…..WHODEY

WHYUS!! - January 7, 2012
How great would it be to play next week too? Let's take care of business today!
We know what we need to do, now let’s kick some F’n a#$!
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
I know it
Its just crazy to think that this journey could lead to the superbowl…..just insane isnt it????
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
WHO DEY!
This has a different feel to it than the ‘05 and ’09 playoff games. I’ve never been this pumped about a football game in my life.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
same
Jason Blanton - January 7, 2012
I really didn't get super pumped until last night
Probably because I returned to work this week after the holiday, but I’ve got the butterflies today fo sho!
Anthony Cosenza - January 7, 2012
This is just the start, we need to be doing this consistently going forward.......
with the talent we have, the ride has just started. {Insert HBO Hard Knocks theme song here} lol
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
I know there is a HUGE game today, but
we have 6 hours to kill and I’d like to talk draft. Anybody have any questions or would like a quick analysis on a player?
I don’t have reports on everybody yet, but Scouting Reports will start getting posted after the Bengals last game (the Super Bowl)
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Does Chris Polk's running style also concern you, or is it just me?
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
No concerns at all from me. some have said he’s too upright but I’ve seen enough players have success with the same style.
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Janoris Jenkins......real deal, or pass, pass, pass...........???
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
Real Deal talent wise
but I think we are getting away from distraction players.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
Pass for me.
No more “baggage” guys. That’s why this 2011 team has been successful.
Anthony Cosenza - January 7, 2012
Agree, scares me to death........
also scares me to death that he’ll probably be sitting right there for us at #17 and we need a corner. Hopefully DeCastro, Richardson, or one of those guys will fall. Like to stay away from this kid.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
hope we pass on him
HOWEVER, considering Brown’s love for scratch and dent players, if Jenkins is there at 17, expecting the Bengals to jump on him.
palewook - January 7, 2012
before this year, I would’ve said lock for first round. Then he didn’t play lights out in D2. He SHOULD have. I spoke to a small school scout who gave him a 3/4 round grade.
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
I could ask your ear off about this.
I was wondering how deep is the CBs in this years draft. Can we afford to pass on a CB in the first round to pick one in th 2nd or 3rd round?
Being in Richmond, VA I have got to watch and ask about Chase Minnifield from UVA. Also there are a few others that have peeked my interest for the same rounds.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
It's supposed to be a deep class, but I want to come out of the first round with one.
I’m also a big fan of Trumaine Johnson as a CB/S in the third round.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
I do too, but
I want a OG and WR out of the first more if a good WR is there.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
call me crazy, but I think
that we should have enough receiving options next year. Green, Gresham, Shipley. It would be nice to have another outside wide receiver but I think we need to satisfy more pressing needs early in the draft
Jason Blanton - January 7, 2012
Yep more pressing needs are there
but if one of those good WR’s are there late for us with our second pick it might be to much to pass up.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
What about Hosely from VT? Projected in 2nd right now, haven't seen him much...
had a good bowl game from what I hear.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
I was looking at Gilmore out of SC also.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
with jones and jennings being FAs and Hall possibly not ready at the start of the season
the bengals will need 2-3 CBs in the draft and FA. so i can imagine cincy taking 2 cbs during the draft. one in the 1st and a later cb that got a ton of talent.
palewook - January 7, 2012
It’s one of the deepest classes in the draft. I could see 4 in the first round and 5 in the second round. Could the Bengals wait? Sure.
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
But they shouldn't should they?
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
What do you think about JJen?
… you know, Janoris Jenkins?
Jason Blanton - January 7, 2012
since this was already answered
what do you think about the safety position? Who are some guys who we could target in the 2nd-3rd-4th rounds?
Jason Blanton - January 7, 2012
bengals need a SS
provided they resign nelson at FS, otherwise we need 2 safetys.
palewook - January 7, 2012
I'm pretty sure Barron is a SS.
I’d be good with drafting him in the first.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
He is
biggie22 - January 7, 2012
He is one of the few safeties rated very high in this draft....
would be ok with a CB and S in the first.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
Safety is the same as it’s been past 3-4 years. No elite talent but some guys who can start in rounds 2-3. Mark Barron (Bama) is widely considered the best. I’m actually doing safeties this week and i’ll have more of a concrete grades on these guys. A few that I’m really excited about.
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Is Mark barron our only realistic option or has someone else caught your eye?
I like the look of Sean Richardson Winston Guy & Kelcie McCray who I haven’t been able to see play but has speed and size.
messjunk - January 7, 2012
Outside of Trent Richardson, who do you like at running back?
Who looks like they might be a good value pick at this point?
Animal_Like_Football - January 7, 2012
In the first round?
If Bengals get a very late 1st rounder, I can see Lamar Miller being a value pick at that point. At 17? They have to get the best OL or CB they can get. DeCastro is one of the highest touted Guards in years, so I don’t expect him to drop to 17. Glenn from Georgia? Perhaps. I have a feeling Kirkpatrick could still be around at 17. Such a CB heavy draft. I like the idea of a WR but lets see what Rome does in the playoffs before we declare that he isn’t coming back.
KSE - January 7, 2012
I liked Glenn at first but not so much now.
I would love to get Decastro, and Malcolm Floyd from ND in the first.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
WR isn't worth getting in the first.
They have Shipley coming back and again, I’m not sold that they need to ditch Simpson.
KSE - January 7, 2012
Maybe but an upgrade would be nice.
I like Sanu in the 2nd but not sure he will still be there with our pick.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
agreed
we have huge needs at G(s) CB(s) S(s) and RB. spending a pick on wr in the first 3 rounds for cincy, is a questionable move.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Not sure about the first round
but if LaMichael James is there in the second, I take him without hesitation.
WOOD98 - January 7, 2012
beyond richardson in the 1st
don’t think the bengals should spend a 1st rounder on a rb, even hesitate to say the bengals should spend a 2nd rounder on a rb. hoping we can hold off until the 3rd round.
palewook - January 7, 2012
I really like Lamar Miller (Miami) in round 1.
Chris Polk is a guy I love but his speed will make him a round 2 guy.
Then guys like Doug Martin (Boise), David Wright (WVu) are late 2nd – 3rd rounders.
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Who is David Wright from WVU?
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
snapshot of him
palewook - January 7, 2012
There is no David Wright from WVU.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
David Wilson from VTis probably who he meant
palewook - January 7, 2012
YEAH WHICH IS HUGE TYPO!
WVU > vt, UGH!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
Anyone know of a good value pick for the interior O-line who might be there in the middle rounds?
Like, a good version of Clint Boling?
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Good names are...
Joel Foreman-Michigan St.
Braden Hansen (Sadly, no relation to The Lariat)-BYU
Will Blackwell-LSU
Stephen Good-Oklahoma
KSE - January 7, 2012
Braden Hansen 2013 Draft
Markus Zusevics RT/G Iowa would transer from Tackle to Guard Right build well coached
messjunk - January 7, 2012
And Kevin Zeitler G Wisconsin
messjunk - January 7, 2012

Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
i'd look at couple of the guys blocking for montee ball
theres 2 roadgraders on that wisconsin line
palewook - January 7, 2012
What do you think
about/of Boom Herron?
WHYUS!! - January 7, 2012
Boise State running back... Martin
That is the running back I want us to have if Richardson is off the board. I watched some YouTube on him and he runs hard and has a second gear , not only that- he is agile and quick. What do you think?
I’d also trade one of those first round picks for more picks… It will be late in the 1st round and I think we’d be better off with more picks than just an additional 1st. Just sayin-
Cincinnati222 - January 7, 2012
It's 720 AM PST
I just got up. I’m wired. Let’s make some history today. Who Dey, snitches!
Anthony Cosenza - January 7, 2012
good history pls
palewook - January 7, 2012
Bout time you guys catch up!
I’ve been pregaming since 6 AM!!!!!!!!! WHO DEY??!?!??!?!?!?!? BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Banana Jamma - January 7, 2012
Everybody has baggage.
Don’t forget Green got suspended last year for couple games. His he a problem child? Jenkins is the real deal along with Glenn or Barron. I take James in 2nd round and line in 3rd.
pray4gm11 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Lamichael James?
No thanks. He profiles to be a better version of Bernard Scott- not what we’re looking for. We need an every down back who’s able to take a beating.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
RE:
We need a back with speed, shiftiness and hands. James fits all of those. While I agree that he’s a lot like Scott, I like James a lot. If he’s there in the third, I say grab him and get a bruiser in free agency or later in the draft.
Anthony Cosenza - January 7, 2012
James is tiny
he is good, but I just dont see him holding up…
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
Darren Sproles seems pretty stout.
KSE - January 7, 2012
true, true
Even sproles has a little weight on him….If James can gain a little weight or muscle…I would take him
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
RE:
Watch film on James. Though he’s small, he stronger than you think. You can also line him up as a WR. The Bengals offense needs an RB threat for Dalton. It’ll open things up for the playmakers outside. James is that kind of guy. Sign Tolbert or Michael Bush and add a James in the third and that’s pretty good.
Anthony Cosenza - January 7, 2012
How often does Sproles actually run the ball, though?
We need someone to take it between the tackles fairly often.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
+1 .....in my ranking in order
Pead, Miller, Polk
I have posted this before…….we have to take one of these three…..
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
RE:
Exactly.
The most yards rushing in Sproles’ career is 603 yards. He’s a guy that we had hoped Scott would mirror.
Still doesn’t answer the question though: Who is the feature back next season?
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
RE:
Honestly, as long as it’s not Benson and the Bengals grab somebody in the draft or FA, I’m happy… at least right now.
Jason Garrison - January 7, 2012
We ABSOLUTELY HAVE to take one of these 4 backs this year...My ranking in order
Isaiah Pead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI05AJRcD2I
Lamar Miller
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVoKjbx3QC4
David Wilson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1bO123KOEM
Chris Polk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o46hjBKtNw8
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
I just like Lamar Miller
he is unreal….he is one of those guys that just makes everyone out there look slower and less skilled….just watch his feet….crazy
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
i really like Pead
im more than positive he is on the bengals radar because he plays in their back yard… it would be stupid not to scott him…. Ive seem him line up like a WR… that definately fits grudens sceme, if we can get a back that can do that
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
I like Pead too!
Hope he is sitting there for us in the 3rd round.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
hard not to like pead
afraid i’m biased on pead with his local roots.
palewook - January 7, 2012
I hate Pead as a WVU fan but would love him as a Bengals fan!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
wilson has nice cuts
palewook - January 7, 2012
I'd like to see the Bengals aggressively pursue Michael Bush in FA.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Not sold on bush...
Would you believe me if i told you his YPC is lower than bensons? 3.8
Jason Blanton - January 7, 2012
Yeah not sold on him either.
I want a guy with more explosion.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
I pointed that out once...
Crickets chirped. I won’t say he stinks, but I haven’t been told what makes him seem like a better fit.
supergrover - January 7, 2012
To be fair, a lot of times earlier in the year he only played in short yardage situations.
DMC was their every down guy. Bush only went in when it was a 3rd and 1 type of situation (where Ced usually fails.) Only going in on short yardage situations isn’t good for a YPC average.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
RE:
I would be surprised if the Raiders let him go — aka, not making their own aggressive pursuit to bring him back. McFadden is hardly the most reliable guy, in terms of health.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
raiders are in cap trouble
they had to borrow against next years cap for this season.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Also...
Hue and the new GM probably want to clear out all of Al’s guys on and off the field. That includes various players.
KSE - January 7, 2012
Wasnt Hue one of Al's guys?
keithp - January 7, 2012
bush is a younger benson
should be a cheap enough option for cincy’s front office. bush is a band aide to hold the team over until we can finally draft a RB of the future.
palewook - January 7, 2012
I still like taking James
He has proven his durability and ability to run between the tackles. His versatility, ability to catch the ball and home run threat would be huge for this team. Further, I think the bruiser comes in the later rounds with a guy like Dan Herron, Line or someone of that ilk who will be a 3-5 round selection.
WOOD98 - January 7, 2012
Getting suspended a few games is much different then getting kicked out of school.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
He has a point though.
Dunlap wasn’t kicked out of Florida, but he was definitely a problem child there. Rey was the same way at USC. But we took both because they would have been much higher picks based on talent alone and dropped to us because of character. Sounds an awful lot like Jenkins, right?
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Having problems at your school over things is one thing.
Getting kicked out of school because you get arrested 3 times is on another level.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
Dunlap was arrested AT LEAST once, and I think twice.
But since he’s gotten here, he’s been a model citizen.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Pacman Jones doesn't even the excuse that he was a "kid" at the time; he's been arrested several times in the NFL.
He’s still on the team. Same with Ced Benson.
The bottom line is, it’s possible to forgive guys for doing dumb shit. Lamichael James beat his girlfriend. Janoris Jenkins smoked some weed. Yet people are talking about drafting James a few comments above this.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
RE:
Just remember that Frostee Rucker was accused of hitting his girlfriend too.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
Right and I bet Benson is gone.
I’m not saying don’t draft the guy but you can’t sit there and think we are not cleaning things out.
Dunlap had one arrest for a DUI then did noting else and stayed in school.
Pacman is a prime example of how long it has taken someone with problems do even start to turn the corner, and it’s not guranteed he is here next year.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
RE:
I wouldn’t shed a tear if he’s not, I can never understand his tweets. But he’s a good talent and wouldn’t mind him returning.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
Being a WVU guy I wouldn't mind either, but i think he will want top CB money.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
RE:
I could see that.
But I wouldn’t expect that he’ll receive too many offers. That whole character thing is still there – he was arrested during the offseason again.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
Yep, It's just how much he wants and how much we are willing to pay.
I know he likes Cinci! Hopefully he cuts us a break and stays the hell our of trouble!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
consider what happens to jones if he gets arrested again
nfl could still bounce him out of the league at any point for it. not many GMs will risk a long term contract on jones or big dollars.
palewook - January 7, 2012
RE:
Agreed.
He’ll get a low one-year offer most likely, and someone will offer a two-year deal. Money will be low that doesn’t harm the team if he has to be cut.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
doesn't he have a court date in the offseason
was supposed to be in November and he got a continuance?
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
I follow him too and its a workout reading his tweets sometimes.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
yeah
I don’t think W.V. is too high on English classes
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
Watch your foul tongue sir!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
lol
read somewhere, if you can’t get into any of your top choices…you need to apply to W.V., they accept anyone?
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
You sir then need a better reading level
because you are mistaken. lol.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
lol
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
PACMAN
I hated this signing, and still kinda get irked when i see him on the field
Truth is,I want the Adam Jones of this season,to be here next season
keithp - January 7, 2012
pacman goes where ever zimmer goes
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Does he hold it for him too?
J/K
keithp - January 7, 2012
and SHAKE IT!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
Model franchises dont take that chance!
Even though Marvin has has some success with revamping damaged guys
To be competitive year in and year out,you let these type of player’s come to teams like cincy
keithp - January 7, 2012
jenkins got tossed out of 1 school
went to his next college and still couldnt keep his focus on the field. does cincy really need another immature player with drug issues and a couple of assaults on his record?
palewook - January 7, 2012
Especially
when there’s so many others at his skill level in this draft. If he was a worlds better? You can take a strong look. If he’s sitting there at 17? So will Dennard, Hosley, Minnifield and maybe Kirkpatrick. Jenkins isn’t more extraordinary then those guys.
KSE - January 7, 2012
Jenkins would have been top 10 last year, and with out getting arrested back 2 back and getting kicked out of school
would have been challenging for the top CB spot this year. Kid’s got talent no doubt. I can look past a weed charge, but he had 3 arrests never learned and got kicked out of school.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
if jenkins is still there in the 2nd round
screw it, we bite the bullet and gamble on him. he won’t be though, someone will gamble on him from middle of 1st round to the middle of the 2nd round.
teams like minny are so hurt in their secondary, i could see the vikes taking 2 cbs in the 1st and 2nd.
palewook - January 7, 2012
And another CB under 6'
Xavier Rhodes would have been a good fit this draft can be next draft
messjunk - January 7, 2012
No on Jenkins, Glenn & LMJ for me
Joe Goodberry - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Why are you down on Glenn?

messjunk - January 7, 2012
Hiroki Nakamura on Mel Kuiper show
Picks Bengals. It was a very complimentary interview regarding Dalton and the maturity he shows and the improvement from their first matchup to the second.
It wasn’t a “I want the Bengals to win because we don’t want to face the Texans” commentary.
supergrover - January 7, 2012
I'm tired of this guy being a Raven.
KSE - January 7, 2012

He’s a good guy but him being a Raven makes it less easy to like the guy.

AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Cincy Jungle
We began this site in March of 2006. We’ve seen the choking of 2006, the forgetful 2007 season, the Ryan Fitpatrick season of 2008, the excitable season (at least first half of the season) of 2009, the disappointment season of 2010 and now the new era Bengals 20011.
This is only our second playoff game in site history. I’m pumped.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
i hope it doesnt take 18,000 years for a new bengals era...

palewook - January 7, 2012

ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
My mind is boggled.
For some reason, I am remembering when Simpson got drafted, the analysts said “Huge hands, catches everything thrown his way, but has poor route running skills.”
Am I remembering this wrong? What happened to his hands?
steveinct - January 7, 2012
RE:
Terrell Owens cursed them.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
I remember one of his most appealing traits being his massive hands. His hands were measured as the biggest in that draft class.
That probably led analysts to assume that he caught everything. Remember that he came from a small school and wasn’t analyzed as much as the guys from bigger teams. They probably made an inference given his hand size and never bothered to make sure it was true.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
You know what they say about big hands...
KSE - January 7, 2012
Regular size blunts look small so you have to roll them bigger?
steveinct - January 7, 2012
Yo....
That is friggin hilarious!
+1
Cincinnati222 - January 7, 2012
I don't think that is true.
Maybe, but I am pretty sure you can tell that by watching some film and looking at the statistics for dropped passes. If the guy had cement hands in college, there is no way he gets drafted because he is a dolt who couldn’t run routes.
I am starting to wonder if the problem stems from them not throwing to him enough for the first couple of years in practice (marvinism of the youth) and he lost his touch.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
I still think there is a big mis-perception of simpson
this is pretty much his rookie year in terms of starting time and has 725 yrds and 4 tds…. And you can tell there is still upside and flip side there lol
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
I agree
I don’t think we should drop him unless some other team comes in with a huge offer. I don’t want to break the bank on him, but I think he is still a good WR and is a threat opposite AJ.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
His 4th rookie year
But if he doesnt have any legal trouble,Jerome seems to be a team guy
Has that speech thing, was he a W.V. product?

TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012

palewook - January 7, 2012
Agreed
But that doesn’t explain his hands. If he could catch “everything” that was near him before, but was never in the right place, it makes sense that it took time. Now he is running the routes, but forgot how to catch?
steveinct - January 7, 2012
its not his hands that have failed him in the nfl
he catches the balls when he tries. he quits on plays at times, those are the passes that hit the ground around him.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Simpson still has great hands.
He can catch passes only a handful of guys in the league can make. He just lacks concentration.

This season...
Should change how we think about this team going forward. Depth, guys stepping up, heart. All of these are what we are about not the crap we’ve dealt with for the last 20+ years. I know talking about the draft is always exciting, but WE HAVE A PLAYOFF GAME TODAY! The season is NOT over. I believe in this team. This team needs to step up for us as fans and for the city of Cincinnati. Let’s play with some fire today. Win individual battles. and keep it simple. We CAN win this game!!!!
banderson22 - January 7, 2012
RE:
Totally agree. And as we made a point earlier, if the ball rolls their way at least once during their losses, they could easily be 15-1. I know, they could also lose their close games but we’re Bengals fans and we don’t envision how the Bengals could have lost their wins, right? :)
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
will be a huge off season for cincy
failure to address the glaring holes on the team, could drag this team back down next year. keep in mind who will be fa’s from cincy in the off season. the team will have to make a commitment to winning in the off season with a couple of real moves. RB, Gx2, CBx2 (jones, jennings arew fa), Sx2 (nelson is a fa)
palewook - January 7, 2012
This coming offseason
Is quite possibly the most important in recent memory. Sure others have been important but if we bring in the right guys (team first mentality, good talent, unselfish) this team could be sent over the top and be one of the top tier teams for years

Players arrested in college
From a discussion above.
Does it really matter if a player is arrested IN COLLEGE for something like a DUI, or other thing that college kids do? Hurting others (abuse, battery, etc..) is one thing and that’s hard to stand behind someone for. Other the other hand, if a player is arrested for a DUI, or a little bit of pot, do we really care. Most kids that get in trouble for that stuff mature soon in the professional (not everyone, obviously, but a majority, sure)
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
That's exactly what I'm trying to say about Jenkins.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Trumaine Johnson's case is good example
Sticking up for a friend
messjunk - January 7, 2012
But you do have to consider it I think and if the player has had multiple run-ins........
doesn’t that raise quite a few red flags? Plus, if your going to give a young man a lot of money that has had some problems with the law/drugs/bar fights etc., wouldn’t you agree that given a checkered past, they might be more likely to get in trouble in the future? It’s not an exact science by any means, but if you’ve got two guys fairly equal in talent and one has not gotten in trouble, I would prefer to take that indivdual who has shown over time to make good decisions. Not saying never pick a player with any problems, but all other things being equal……go with the guy who has proven to make wise choices.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
I agree
if someone gets in trouble mainly because they are immature, with the right coaches, they should be able to fix that. But if there are some serious issues, then I wouldnt’ waste a draft pick.
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
And the Bengals evidently have the right coaches to fix that.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
i know Bernard scott had some serious red flags when he was coming out of college
but I havn’t heard of any problems since he has been in the NFL
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Even Andre has seemed to turn it around finally, but he was more immature.....
than issues with drugs, violence, etc. Our coaches have done a good job with the team we have, I think we just don’t want to keep rolling the dice and adding more potential questionable characters to the locker room. We tried that before with Odell, Slim, etc. etc. Talented yes, but everything else……not so much.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
yea i heard Odell was just nuts
he was just one thing away from going over the edge
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Yeah, he had/has some issues.
I think he’s in the USFL now or something?
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
yea i heard he had turned it around apprently but the league wont let him back in i believe
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Yeah, if your banned from the NFL.....that's not a good thing.
There are some crazy guys playing the league now and he is deemed “hardcore crazy.” lol Waste of talent……..
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
hasn't this team lost enough gambling on bad character issues already?
seriously do we really need another period like 2005-2007?
palewook - January 7, 2012
My point exactly........
leave the problems to someone else to worry about.
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
RE:
You do that and Johnathan Joseph, Carlos Dunlap, Bernard Scott, Frostee Rucker and Rey Maualuga aren’t drafted.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
eh jojo didnt have college issues i recall
palewook - January 7, 2012
Again, not saying only draft saints...........
just saying it needs to be a part of the process and considered. Other than Dunlap right now……would we be completely devestated without the others (JJ was let go, B. Scott has been ok, Rucker has been ok, and Rey has been ok as well). Would our team be terrible if we had replaced these guys with similar talents?
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
we're also not talking about a kid who was only arrested once in college
jenkins made a mess of his time in college with his off the field troubles.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Agree on Jenkins.......
if that kid is that talented and still gets kicked not only off the team, but out of school………..hello, red flags! Stay the hell away………
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
Not impressed with him or Dennard
Onfield or off cover corners are overated and with the pass friendly rules aren’t that effective. Leonard Johnson will be available in 3rd if we go that way he’s been the most impressive this year. Hoping we go with Zim wants and get CBs that are ball hawks for more ints
messjunk - January 7, 2012
Ummm!
LaGarret Blount, anybody?
WHYUS!! - January 7, 2012
A conversation I had with someone about Dalton...
Don’t get me wrong, I think Dalton has been awesome, but with the course of the NFL I think he may find himself outmatched. This appears to be the beginning era of QBs throwing for 5,000 yards and 40 TDs, and I’m just not sure Dalton will ever be that guy. He’s never going to lose you a game, but I’m also not sure he’s the guy to go out there and win you a game on his own- the top teams (besides the 49ers) all seem to have guys doing that.
Anyone else have thoughts on that?
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
I think given a healthy Shipley and Rome not dropping some balls
He would have been closer to 4k yards. I see what you are saying, but look at the WR corps for those teams. Also did they play the defenses we did?
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
How many rookies (outside of Cam)
throw up 4,000 yards? We haven’t seen the full development of Dalton.
KSE - January 7, 2012
I'm with you there, but personally I just don't think Dalton quite projects to be a gunslinger.
And, though I hate it, the NFL seems to be going in the direction where you just about need a gunslinger.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Effing Goodell!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
I'm not sure if I agree
I know all of the rules are offense oriented but once the defenses figure the new rules and stop playing with their heads and just react it will even out and defense and the running game will once again be a big part of the game.
Helmsy - January 7, 2012
who cares if he throws 10,000 yrds
the “w” is the most important stat…
AMAS85 - January 7, 2012
Well.
You would have to look at a lot of stats to make the analysis. Think of it this way: How many yards did Brday throw this year? How many were with air under the ball? How many were intermediate seam routes to the tightend that had massive YAC? etc etc etc. You can’t just look at the total yards and get any picture at all of what a QB is cabable of. My biggest concern is that Dalton finished the year under 60% in the accuracy column. Hopefully that will go up.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
I'm looking at his... tools (to use a baseball term) more than yardage this year.
His deep ball leaves a lot to be desired. He doesn’t seem have the arm strength to jam the ball into super tight coverage like it’s sometimes necessary to do. His accuracy, though good, might not be quite good enough to run a pure WCO.
He’s obviously very talented and smart as well, but to me it doesn’t look like he projects to carry the team like Brady, Brees, Rodgers, or even Eli Manning.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
I don't know about that.
I have seen quite a few ropes this year coming from his arm. They are usually in the short to medium range, but that is all that is needed to split the defenders. You are correct about the long ball though. they ALWAYS have too much air under them.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
Quite a few of the deep balls he's completed this year
would have probably been picked off if just about anyone in the NFL besides AJ Green was the intended receiver.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
You are right!
There have been flashes. I hope he can get sticky hands so we will have a replacement for the old TJ/Chad combo. Only Rome is faster and has a better jump ball than TJ but isn’t as good in the slot — but we have Shipley for that next year. I personally think we should keep Rome.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
we're not a run and gun offense.
we’ll do just fine with the dink and dunk, provided we add a running back and guards.
palewook - January 7, 2012
As long as guards are not reaches
messjunk - January 7, 2012
damn straight
palewook - January 7, 2012

But then again, how often do we get 4 wr sets? The Bengals will have to turn into a passing team before we can get a fair gauge on Andy in that sense.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Just a trend
Offensive number’s will keep going up
I still tend to believe, smart decisions, ball control and defense will be the difference in the end

I think those people are "not thinking".
And yes, that is in quotes so I don’t say anything too provocative and start a fight.
With revenue sharing, it doesn’t really hurt MB all that much. In my opinion, all it does is make the team members not want to stay because the fams don’t support them, it makes FA’s not want to some here, and takes jobs away from hot dog vendors, ticket colectors, security guys, parking lot attendants, and the like. You aren’t hurting MB, you are hurting the small guy and the fans who would like a solid team in the future. Ok.. flame on.

Anyone think Denver has any chance against Pitt??
stripes earner - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Not at all
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
I do.
A banged up Big Ben against Dumervil and Von Miller? That defense for Denver and the rushers for Denver can do it. Tebow needs to limit the mistakes.
KSE - January 7, 2012
RE:
Jaws said that if Tebow struggles, he wouldn’t be surprised if Brady Quinn comes in. Yea. No chance for the Broncos. Good run to the playoffs though but Denver’s offense won’t do much against Pittsburgh defense.
Josh Kirkendall - January 7, 2012
brady quinn has to rescue the fighting tebows?
not good, not good.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Actually
I am wondering if they are going to do some stuff with Brady today. Put Brady in as QB and Tebow as a RB. Why not? Could be tough to tell what is going to happen out of that formation.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
you could move tebow around all day
have him line at WR, run a few option passes or reverses. insert him at TE, with a couple of fake blocking assignments that are shuttle passes to tebow. etc.
if i were denver, there’s no legal play i wouldnt consider today.
palewook - January 7, 2012
Definitely!
I hope they do too! That would be awesome to see. But I want to see it tomorrow! (hehe)

Broncos are a better team than the browns. Also Mendenhall and Moore are out, they can’t carry the load like they did in those 4 games last year.
Alexneyer - January 7, 2012
I remember that.
I also remember Ben’s suspension was known before the schedule came out. I also remember when the schedule came out, they had 3 or 4 very winnable games in the first 4. I remember thinking “Are you freaking kidding me? What a gift!”
steveinct - January 7, 2012
i have yet to buy into the fighting tebows
felt it was a gimmick that would work for a short time until the nfl adjusted. you arent going to fool dick lebeau with that college crap. tebow will have to beat the steelers with his arm today.

I dont question there hunger,as much as some of these type late season decisions
Big Ben is going to be like Palmer,a sitting duck!

txbengal29 - January 7, 2012

keithp - January 7, 2012

txbengal29 - January 7, 2012
I don't think we need to resort to low percentage plays
I think we need to spread the ball around, with high percentage throws, and mix up the runs so they never know where the ball is going. Dalton at 68%, a solid running game and stout D should win it.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
As far as the draft

From the California’s biggest Bengals fan…I just drank three beers – very nervous and it’s 9:30am in the morning. Who Dey!
bengalino - January 7, 2012
Oh geez...
I have been trying not to “pregame” so I can make it through the real game! I know today is going to be sloppy so I have to pace myself.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
Pace yourself!
I feel more confident than two years ago versus the Jets! We will pull off a win in a battle!
bengalino - January 7, 2012
Expensive Day.
I know today is going to be expensive (as was last week). When the Bengals win a big game, I buy “the crew” (about 15 of the regulars at the bar I go to) a Bengal bomb. Not every win, just the big ones. Of course, last week, since we made it to the playoffs, Bengal bombs for the crew. Win or lose today, I am sure there will be Bengal bombs after the game to celebrate the win, or to celebrate the new beginings for our team.
Time to give my favorite bar some money today!
steveinct - January 7, 2012
What is a Bengal bomb?
I need to know…for research.
Jaegner - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Like a Jager-bomb
Only, instead of redbull, you use orange soda (orange soda and jager in a bomb cup or you can do it with a shot glass of jager sitting in a glass of orange soda filled up below the bottom of the shot glass). It is freaking tasty!
steveinct - January 7, 2012
This Postseason
I read a lot of comments about how people are excited about the direction this team is going in and how making the post season has made their year. I believe the exact same thing; this season was unbelievably and, quite frankly, unexpected success. However, how sweet would it be to continue that? I mean, a win today not only proves the people that claimed this would be one of the worst teams ever put on a football field (I don’t have sources, but I do remember hearing multiple people say that during preseason) wrong, but it also proves all of those people that argue against the Bengals for the fact that they haven’t beaten a playoff team this season were unfairly judging this team. The playoffs are a brand new season where anything can happen. Clearly, this has been an entire football year where anything can happen. Sure, we didn’t beat a playoff-bound team this regular season, but what better way to get that first win than doing it in the playoffs?
Dorey15 - January 7, 2012
One other thing
If the Bengals do actually take the lead early, will Marvin tuck their heads into the turtle shell and try to run out the clock with 3 quarters remaining? If it was Sam Wyche you know they’d pour gasoline on the fire. One of Marvin’s big problems is no killer instinct in big games where they do take a lead. If they get ahead, they should pour it on, maybe take more risks instead of fewer risks.
occams_tiger_teeth - January 7, 2012
Damned if u do,damned if you dont
With our young team, lack of running game, and inconsistent pass protection
I’d rather live with Marvin ball, then try to play Madden like some rookie
keithp - January 7, 2012
The Bengals have their work cut out fir them today.
Andre Johnson is back. If they want to win, they better think about covering the underneath crossing pattern. Which they failed at miserably in the previous meeting. Pay special attention to Owen Daniels. Our LB’s can’t cover him.
SevenRings - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
If we can run
Texan’s dont stand a chance,if we cant i look for a tight game and some penalties to be the big difference

But they want it close to increase crowd noise.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Another PFT Gem..........
Are the Bengals a great team? No. But they are capable of consistently beating bad teams, going 9-0 against non-playoff competition. The effort is always there. The Bengals were expected to be the very worst team in the league.

It is pretty electric down here in Houston
It is going to be LOUD at Relaint – it will be an electric atmosphere
News stations were running hour long TV specials last night – non stop TV/Radio pushing the Texans
A Krogers down here was supposodley selling “Go Bengals Cookies” the radio guys were raising hell – calling Krogers/bashing them – it is kind of crazy
I think Cincy can beat them – but they need to maintain their poise – try to keep the crowd out of it at least part of the game
I think the Texasns fans are little delusional thinking they have this game – it is a tossup – and crowd will probably be a factor
Go Bengals – Whip the Texans!!

Draft Numbers & Options
Back to some draft talk (we still have hours to kill)
We have 5 picks in the first three rounds thanks to the Carson & Chad parting gifts and then the regular later round picks…. My question is “how mNy players do we really need to bring in.”. W ith the new rookie salary cap, moving up in the draft is much. Plus, unlike prior Bengals team, we are really not struggling for depth. Think about it… If we bring in a quality a quality RB, S, G, and 2 CBs… Five players that can contribute at those positions… Do we really NEED anything else….
The new rookie cap changes everything. If the team wants to retain FAs and bring in others, the best way to free up funds is to draft STARTERS that will take up a small portion of the team’s overall cap for four years. Then the Freed up funds can go to FA.
I say we should consider focusing on quality over quantity and get the 5 most blue chip players we can, even if it costs the other 4 picks.
rvsp66 - January 7, 2012
Agreed
Seems like we always lose a couple quality pick ups to other teams (Dezmon Briscoe). Plus with Marvin’s penchant for burrying youngsters, doesn’t help. So if there’s the clear path to move up and grab the best fit for our big needs, do it.
MCSubtext - January 7, 2012 via mobile

ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
Problem is
You are assuming we will be able to resign everyone we want from the current team.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
I'm cringing at the thought of losing
Collins, Sims and Nelson players our coaches have developed and then benifitting other sides, Can’t think of last high profile player we have aquired in F.A. it’s usually other teams unwanted
messjunk - January 7, 2012
we will more than likley keep Nelson
But sims and Collins leave to start more than likley.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
I can see us keeping Sims.
I think he might understand that a run stopper is going to rotate no matter how you slice it. Collins, on the other hand, is probably going to jet — and I don’t blame him.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
Collins should be starting
Andre could easily leave next year as he’s a F.A
messjunk - January 7, 2012
I've been saying all year
Collins should be our RT and Smith should be our RG
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
This would eliminate a pressing need to draft an OL in the first.
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
and
upgrade our line as it stands, my theories got shot down in the communities I posted
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
I can't image
anyone shooting that down. We should have given it a try on running downs in the past could of weeks.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
yeah
I was throwing it around on here (CJ) when Bobbie got suspended, got a whole lot of…the coaches know more than you responses
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
Really?
The only reason I can see them not doing it is because of what these guys are being paid, but that is stupid. It would be a tough pill to swallow when your RG is getting paid RT money, but seriously, who cares if it means we can pound the football behind the right side.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
but it will never happen
They’re already paying LT money for a RT, no way they pay LT money for a guard.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Is LT and RT money different?
Just curious
Helmsy - January 7, 2012
the amount is
but if your a RG, your a RG
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
usually the LTs get paid the big money because theyre protecting the blind side
I can’t think of any RT getting Joe Thomas or Jake Long money off the top of my head.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
correct
watch the movie…oh yeah, he’s a RT
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
and hes not getting paid like a lt.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
neither
is Smith, right now he’s getting paid comparable to Guards
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
maybe at this point in his contract
But they gave him 21 mill signing bonus and all that when he was drafted. I don’t think the bengals actually mind paying big money for 2 tackles, but they do for guards, look at steinbach, when they paid levi and Willie.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Possibly
The thought was,we were a passing team,

keithp - January 7, 2012

Helmsy - January 7, 2012
What about Cowboys Tyron Smith?
messjunk - January 7, 2012
his rookie contracts not bad with the wage scale
But he’s one of the best right tackles in football already he will get paid big money regardless of his side, especially in Dallas.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
You ever watched The Blind Side?
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Then we're always gonna have an average line
messjunk - January 7, 2012
especially today
best Oline on field
messjunk - January 7, 2012
smith has been solid at tackle
But I can’t disagree, Collins needs to be on the field, no doubt he’s one of the top 3 or 4 lineman on the team
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
RE:
We really should have tried Andre at Guard and Collins at tackle here and there to see how that worked before the season came down to the playoffs.
steveinct - January 7, 2012
depends if he wants to get paid like a rotational guy or a starter.
If we lose him we need to go get a run stopper. I would say get 2, have peko, adkins, fanane, and 2 big run stoppers.
JCompton41 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
exactly
We could easily need 3 picks on dline, 3 picks at corner, 2 picks at running back, and then saftey and wr too.

I might reach and take with 2nd 1st or trade down couple spots to get 3rd rounder and James. He is an elite talent, no where in Scott territory. If we can grab Jenkins, Barron, and James with first 3 picks that a take our team to CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL. Grab a speedy Wr, TE, D-line,and another Cb. bengalinflorida - January 7, 2012
Right, you got the mroe important score right!
TCfromDubVee - January 7, 2012
So who do you like in the late game
I’m thinking Detroit could pull off an upset.
emeybee - January 7, 2012
Detroit gets blown out
just my opinion
joeb69 - January 7, 2012
I think Brees is gonna get silly today
350yds 3 tds
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
hard not to pull for the underdog
lions fans endured all those crap matt millen drafts and a horrible owner too.
palewook - January 7, 2012
yeah I wish the Lions would win
I think it would boost that team and city to at least win 1 this year
ticalcaldwell - January 7, 2012
eh, not if it's the Lions.
Schwartz is a douche, half the guys on their defense are thugs and the city sucks. The only person on that team I really like is Megatron.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
+1
I feel the same….One of, if not the, dirtiest teams in the league
Helmsy - January 7, 2012
Hopefully the Lions, I like cheering for the underdogs. But, after last season, I just can’t see the Saints losing early again.
Dorey15 - January 7, 2012
not unless
they get Drew Brees to break an appendage
banderson22 - January 7, 2012
(Somewhat) bold prediction: Brees throws for over 400 yards, Saints win in a blowout.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
That's not at all bold
two guys already predicted the same ;-)
emeybee - January 7, 2012
The bold part was predicting Brees to go over 400 yards.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Saints only real threat to Packers
messjunk - January 7, 2012
I'd be interested to see how the 49ers match up, though.
Maybe the best way to beat the Packers is to keep that offense off the field.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
49ers big problem Alex Smith
I can’t forget two superbowls to them i’d rather see Shitsburg or the boring Pats win
messjunk - January 7, 2012
Saints
I think there running game ends up being the difference
With both teams destroying each other’s defense
keithp - January 7, 2012
Everyone is predicting a Saints blowout
But their last game was closer than people realize, and the defense will come out angry after last week. If they can stop Saints even a little they have the offense to pull it off. It would be a surprise, but I think they can do it.
emeybee - January 7, 2012
How sweet would it be...
…if today was the day that the Bengals pull off the massive blowout that we’ve been waiting all season for?
Dorey15 - January 7, 2012
To conservative for a BLOWOUT
17-3, type of blowout
keithp - January 7, 2012
That regular season game should have been a blowout, based on the first half.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
yes,i agree
Just depends on what your definition of a blowout is i guess
keithp - January 7, 2012
Yeah, I guess so.
For me a blowout is when it’s at least more than a ten point game, and one team clearly outplayed the other the whole game. You said 17-3. and if the defense was truly dominant I would consider that a blowout.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
Let's just win
And if we do, can we all promise to not say stupid shit like, “But we didn’t win by enough”?!
emeybee - January 7, 2012
Your Right
A win today, and this might be the first time all season
No one here has anything to butch about
keithp - January 7, 2012

The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
Well, I'd give my left nut for a Super Bowl win.
Your move, TVBB.
sexsalad - January 7, 2012
LOL
emeybee - January 7, 2012
You are a true Bengals fan sir..............
I think we’re good. I’ve got the playoffs run covered, you’ve got the SB win. We’re good!
The Van Buren Boys - January 7, 2012
Let's get this win
The season is already a success in my mind regardless of the outcome today. We’ve set ourselves up to be a winning franchise in the near future with a young QB, elite WR, and a lot of young talent on the front of the defense. That doesn’t even count the extra picks we gained from trading Carson and Chad. The experience will also be extremely helpful in the near future.
C1ncy4Life - January 7, 2012
+1
I’m thrilled regardless, but I’ll be even more ecstatic
ifwhen we win!emeybee - January 7, 2012
Agreed
A win would make me esctatic also. We would get that much more experience and the chance to play in the AFC Championship game. If we win today, anything can happen!
