Who didn't see this coming?
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is one of the candidates to be the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins, who fired Tony Sparano in early December. They originally contacted former head coach of the Tennessee Titans, Jeff Fisher, but it appears that Fisher is going to take the St. Louis Rams job.
Now that the Dolphins believe that Fisher is off the market, they are turning to other candidates.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Dolphins, sensing Fisher will pick the Rams, are now moving on to other candidates. Per Glazer, the candidates include Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey (pictured), Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, and Packers offensive coorinator Joe Philbin.
There are already rumor circling that Jay Gruden, the Bengals offensive coordinator, may interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach position and there appears to be a chance that Cincinnati could lose both coordinators after they went to the playoffs in 2011.
This will be something that we'll be keeping our eye on so stay tuned for updates.

Wouldnt be sad to see Zimmer leave.
Grudens not going anywhere with horrible play calling last night. Literally we have guys WIDE OPEN and Dalton only trust Green. That has to change we have too many weapons to be predictable.
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
If there were guys open, then it's not bad play calling.
It’s Dalton not spreading the ball out. He got nervous and focused all on Green. Dalton’s great, and I love his potential, but he had a pretty bad game. Gruden has been far from perfect, but don’t put this particular issue on him. He expects Dalton to look for the second option if the first one is covered.
Pardon_My_French - January 8, 2012
Mularkey is mucking it up in the Falcons playoff game so I wouldn't count on him
emeybee - January 8, 2012
Philbin is a favorite...
because people believe that Philbin will bring Matt Flynn with him. Who can Zimmer bring? Pacman?
KSE - January 8, 2012
However...
if Zimmer goes? Call Spags and Del Rio right away. Marvin and Del Rio have a good past.
KSE - January 8, 2012
and if gruden goes
Hue Jackson might not survive Oaklands new gm.
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
that would be awesom to get hue back as our offensive coordinator
doubt the raiders fire him this year. chuck on the other hand, is a dead duck in oakland
palewook - January 8, 2012
He got canned.
Can’t imagine he ever gets a DC gig in NFL again.
KSE - January 8, 2012
damn i missed that
he got canned 3 days back
palewook - January 8, 2012
not wanting to lose zimmer
nor will i be happy when it does happen, bound to happen one of these off seasons
palewook - January 8, 2012
tampa is being reported to have interest in zimmer as well
which is the one team that scares me. i could imagine the bucs taking zimmer away from us
palewook - January 8, 2012
Some people here
will probably say that’s almost as bad as Tampa taking Briscoe away.
KSE - January 8, 2012
Almost.
lol
Pardon_My_French - January 8, 2012
Maybe Mikey Boy could coax Lippencott out of retirement to come back as DC.
Im_a_fun_haver - January 8, 2012
lol
that was a joke, right?
OhWell - January 8, 2012
Well, it's not going to be Katie or Troy.
They’ll be Co-Offensive Coordinators when Gruden leaves.
Im_a_fun_haver - January 8, 2012
Hate to lose Zimmer..........
but guy deserves a shot. Hopefully we can keep both he and Gruden together for a full season next year and see what happens…….
The Van Buren Boys - January 8, 2012
Nane one player Zimmer has made elite?
Quit giving him so much credit. He is ok bit hasn’t developed nobody into being great. Atkins and Dunlap are can’t miss talents. Nelson is average but needs to be upgraded also will be nice depth but not starter material. Nobody fears our defense NOBODY, getting beat twice by rookie is bad. Houston did nothing special to beat us. Wilson should’ve been in for Crocker, but I guess that’s his best friend. There is no communication in our defense backfield. Or our defense as a whole. Crocker and Rey was scared to tackle last night. Pac-Man is good but he is also scared to tackle.
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
remember the d before zimmer?
And a 4th round dt is a can’t miss talent?
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
and every team passed on Dunlap
because everyone thought he wasn’t coachable. That’s a plus for Zimmer. Zimmer has been a well regarded DC for 12 seasons. That’s extremely rare in the NFL.
KSE - January 8, 2012
nelson was a mess, considered a bust
jennings while not perfect, got better as the season went on.
palewook - January 8, 2012
thomas howard has also been a great player this year
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Clements.
Zimmer targeted him once JJ left. Zimmer has the knowledge of how to replace players.
KSE - January 8, 2012
clements was solid in san fran before anyways
He was pretty much what we expected all season.
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
dunlap was a big time talent though
So I figured I’d let that one go. He just had motivation issues.
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
It's funny though.
Once we hear that someone might also want them? We start finding all their flaws.
KSE - January 8, 2012
its like when someone else starts dating your ex
You tell your friends, “that’s cool, she was a bitch anyways.”
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
dont take this the wrong way
if i’m forced to choose between losing zimmer or firing marvin. i’m keeping zimmer. i even consider myself somewhat of a marvin supporter. i feel like the team could survive losing marvin if we kept zimmer. on the other hand, i expect our defense to tank hard if we lose zimmer..
palewook - January 8, 2012
i agree
I think zimmer has enough pull with brown too.
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
If he leaves...
I’m thinking the JJ situation is among the biggest reason why he left.
KSE - January 8, 2012
Thats what im talking bout all them guys are ok not great.
Clements got burnt all year, Atkins and Dunlap had other issues coming out that dropped them, Howard was ok on a ok D, Nelson played horrible also. A good coordinator is Gruden only 3 first round starters and was better than our loaded teams from past. Zimmer has close to 20 former 1st or 2nd rounders. And our defense from before created more to’s while not being highly drafted. And Dallas defense us still dominant if not better.
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
not sure what to say other than
you a a glass is half-full type of person?
palewook - January 8, 2012
Going to see quite a turnover on defense possibly
4 free agents on the D Line, maybe only Mauluga and Howard from this year’s linebackers, and who knows in the secondary..
txbengal29 - January 8, 2012
How many fumble recoveries we miss out on this year?
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Dolphins want offense
They want a big name coach as well…But who knows….
ticalcaldwell - January 8, 2012
Which is why most of us agree
Philbin w/Flynn is almost a lock. Outside of Fisher, whom is believed to be headed to STL, what “BIG” names are left? Unless they threw a shit-ton at JON Gruden. Heard a rumor that Marty was talking with Miami (although probably not for HC).
KSE - January 8, 2012
+1
ticalcaldwell - January 8, 2012
How many teams did our defense dominate with weak schedule?
Our defense ain’t great u all let Zimmer leave. Players love em for a reason. Because he let them play regardless if they produce or not. On our starting defense yesterday only 2 top 5(hell even top 15) at there position. Only fanane was low round pick and he is our 3rd best player on defense. That clearly tells me we don’t develop talent very well. Why wasn’t Johnson used to help with te’s, why did Crocker get to play, why did we never go for ball on defense instead of tackle which killed us with penalties, why when we when have easy interceptions we dropped them, why when we dropped interceptions or didn’t recover fumbles the other team scored or our best player gets hurt?
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
WHAT?
Dude put it down. I’ve said some stupid shit on here but you take the cake. I wasn’t going to respond to any of your post after you said Hawkins should’ve played corner instead of Clemens but your getting silly and I’m trying to do you a favor by saying stop it.
Bigcatdaddy - January 8, 2012 via Android app
Never said Hawkins should of played instead of Clements. With our secondary being bad I said great coaches would’ve gave Hawkins and Clements shots at them spots. I know good coaches don’t play Crocker at all. Come on I’m die hard bengals fan seen EVERY game this year. We didn’t take away nothing another team wanted to do all year. We played Rams, Colts, browns(2x), Jags, and Broncos with only one wideout and with Tebow as Wr and Zimmer had Hall on him while DECKER dominated Clements. U guys don’t no football we have an ok coordinator nothing special. Were loaded with top picks on defense fellas. Great coaches make players out of more than 3 of em.
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Zimmer is a good coach
As far as developing players that falls on the position coaches. They coach and develop players at their respected positions and Zimmer puts them together and makes it work. As far as playing not playing Wilson over Crocker is that obviously Crocker is better. You said that Zim plays guys cause he’s a players coach and buddies with them. He plays who he thinks has the best shot at getting the job done. To say that Crocker plays cause he’s the coaches pet is crazy. Zim is a smart guy and knows buddies don’t pay your bills.
Bigcatdaddy - January 8, 2012 via Android app
Dude sometimes as a coach u have to fire up ur players with change sometimes. Crocker played horrible all year while Mays, Sands,Myles, Wilson sat bench. Nobody on defense lost there job because of performance all year. Gruden switch guys in and out all year depending on performance. When was last time our defense that Zimmer put together defensed a pass? When was last time we stop the other teams 1# target?
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
what are you talking about!
Let me guess you play highschool football, maybe even lower, and think you know everything right?
JCompton41 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Just answer question please.

I think Zim is interviewing for Tampa job too.
whodeycommish14 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
There's an opening
at Home Depot as well. Zimmer is just covering all his bases right now.
KSE - January 8, 2012

joeb69 - January 8, 2012
I'd rather lose Gruden...
I understand that ML is defensive minded with a ring to back him up, but Zim has got us to this point. A 20th ranked offense is good for rookies, but it’s not going to cut it unless there’s major improvement. I’ve read all the comments and opinions about Dalton needing Gruden as well. Zim is a lot bigger asset. I just hope we don’t lose both Coordinators because I’m losing faith in ML unless he’s the new GM.
DonMegga - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Zimmer has done wonders for this team
SIX of his 11 starters after Hall went out were other people’s throwaways. The linebacking crew is Rey “out of position” Maualuga and two castaways. The entire defensive backfield basically is throwaways. And they were very good given the talent level.
Both coordinators are actually reasonably good compared to the craptastic guys they replaced. I’d rather have Gruden as Head Coach instead of Mediocre Marvin. With Zimmer Mediocre Marvin’s defenses were bottom of the league.
occams_tiger_teeth - January 8, 2012
All 1st rd picks so talent is there.
And Hall was getting toasted before injury. It’s something special about Gruden nothing Zimmer!!!
pray4gm11 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
I agree with you on most of your points bro,..
Its just something about our team that we never really shut a team down,.. Yeah we;d make em get some three and outs,.. The only game i thought our d played GREAT was against the cards,.. We HAVE to get rid of crocker,.. I mean zim said hisself if ppl didnt start playing better he’s bench them,.. Its time for him to let that happen, and get rid of crocker,.. Or at least make him sit! And get another playmaking saftey who doent make retarded plays! Talent is there but our guys are so stupid behind our dline and a couple lb’s… On offense we MUST make player changes, we’re a few weak links away from competing let alone winning….
