The one thing that will affect the NFL draft more than the draft order itself is probably free agency. Therefore, it's almost completely pointless to make guesses at who will draft who at this point since free agency is still about a month away. Has that ever stopped anybody from checking out the latest mock drafts, though? No, it hasn't. Show of hands -- how many of you have looked up mock drafts for the 2013 draft? Don't lie........ yeah, that's what I thought.
The fact is, if you don't love mock drafts, you're either not a football fan or you're a liar. Since we all love them, I thought I'd share something special with you today. SB Nation's Mocking The Draft recently pumped out a six-rounder that will make your eyes bleed from pure excitement.
Here we go.

In the first round with the No. 17 overall pick, MTD has the Bengals taking North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins. I understand Jenkins is a talented corner, but I feel that, especially after the recent Rey Maualuga and Jerome Simpson debacles, the team may want to shy away from a guy who has some character issues.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard
Then, in the same round with the No. 21 overall pick, MTD gives the Bengals Miami running back Lamar Miller. There's no question that the Bengals need to re-tool their backfield. Cedric Benson hasn't been getting it done and I don't have a ton of faith in Bernard Scott. However, I think finding a guard at this point is more crucial because drafting a running back before the linemen seems like putting the cart before the horse, but that may just be me.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): UGA guard Cordy Glenn
In the second round, the fellas at MTD gave the Bengals Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill. Hey, I get it. The Bengals do need a No. 2 receiver, but if we were doing things my way, they wouldn't take one in the second round. Stephen Hill may be a good receiver, but I'd rather find a different player that is a bigger need at this point.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Boise State running back Doug Martin
In the third round, MTD gave the Bengals midwestern state guard Amini Silatolu. Guard is a big position of need for the Bengals. Bobbie Williams, Nate Livings and Mike McGlynn are all free agents and of those three, Williams is the only one worth even thinking about bringing back for another year and he'll be 36 when the season starts.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Notre Dame strong safety Harrison Smith
In the fourth round, MTD gives the Bengals UConn defensive end/defensive tackle Kendall Reyes. You can't ever put a price tag on a guy that can rush the passer. For that reason, Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap are invaluable to the Bengals. It's my belief that you should always bring in a new pass rusher every draft. The Bengals did it last year with Dontay Moch and hopefully we get to see what he can do in 2012.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Miami (Ohio) guard Brandon Brooks (you can't ever have too many)
In the fifth round, MTD predicts the Bengals take Pitt defensive end Brandon Lindsey with their 21st pick in that round. Again, you can't have too many guys who know how to rush the passer. This 6-foot-2, 255-pound outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid runs a 4.5-40-yard dash and knows how to get into the backfield.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): I'll take Lindsey here actually.
With their second pick in the fifth round, which they got for the Chad Ochocinco trade, the Bengals get Texas outside linebacker Keenan Robinson. Linebackers are the core of the defense but I think I'd rather see the team re-sign Manny Lawson and Brandon Johnson and have them go after depth at a different position here.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Texas A&M wide receiver Jeff Fuller
Finally, in the sixth round, MTD gave the Bengals Penn State cornerback D'Anton Lynn. I think that's a solid depth pick considering both Adam Jones and Kelly Jennings are free agents.
Who I'd rather have that's available (in this mock): Lynn's fine with me.
So, who did it better, MTD or me? How would you do it?

Is pick number 17 supposed to be:
South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore or
Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard?
Alexneyer - February 11, 2012
Denard from Nebraska,
my bad.
Jason Garrison - February 11, 2012
I think you meant Gilmore instead of Dennard.........

Although that’s going to be a debate that goes right up until draft day. These CB’s are going to get shuffled and reshuffled and reshuffled…especially after the combine.
By the way, I really like the Stephen Hill pick. He could turn out to be a monster. He’s raw so you’re not going to get an AJ rookie year out of him, but I could see him eventually being the best receiver to come out of this class if things break the right way.
eric nyc - February 11, 2012
I could see it going EXACTLY the way MTD did it
From Jenkins & Miller to even Hill & Silatulu. I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
Joe Goodberry - February 11, 2012 via Android app
I just don't want a RB in the first unless its Richardson
I like Corner, Guard, and I would love Martin in the 2nd. I like Smith out of ND, but he kind of reminds me of T. Mays; a big hitting, run stuffing safety. Would be nice to get a ball hawk back there. Watching Crocker get beat and then drop any balls he had a chance at picking was frustrating last year. Maybe a WR like Tommy Streeter instead?

Not to knock the effort
But is it just me or does it seem weird to have a 6 round mock draft. It’s like they looked at it and said, “Well the NFL draft is 7 rounds, but that’s just way too many, how bout 6? Yeah we can do 6. That works.”
PETIE - February 11, 2012
7th is kind of silly..
Lots of people have compensatory 7th round picks. So you’re doing a lot of picking. And the 6th is bad enough but you’re really just rolling the dice and scraping the bottom of the barrel in the 7th.
Cry - February 11, 2012
1st RD: Dre Kirkpatrick-CB
1st RD: Cordy Glenn-OG
2nd RD: Brandon Thompson-DT
3rd RD: Amini Silatolu-OG
4th RD: Marvin Jones-WR
5th RD: Marquis Maze-KR
FA: RB-Micheal Bush
SS-Laron Landry
Bengal4ever - February 11, 2012
If Martin is still there in the 2nd, take him, otherwise, good mock & FA.
Even if we get Michael Bush, I’d still like another RB from the draft.
DTFCPDX - February 11, 2012
I have the the first three rounds identical except we take best vailable CB in round 2 but either way in the first 2 rounds should be all defense and address OG and WR in free agency I really think we chould get Pead somehow because if you look at film of him versus the top 5 RB’s he is the most punnishing, with a smooth transition when he gets past the line with some serious moves to fake guys out of there shoes he reminds me a lot of Corry Dillon the way he runs and once he is in the open field he will outrun most DB’s
oosterling - February 11, 2012
Note*
Marvin Jones got a 2nd round grade from me
Joe Goodberry - February 11, 2012 via Android app
I like Martin
But i think if Thompson is there we can’t pass up on him, & if he’s not there & Mark Barron is there we can’t pass up on him either…but if neither are there then i’d take Martin.
Bengal4ever - February 11, 2012
1a- Kirpatrick (Ala, Cb)

Jason - I'll take your draft
Though I wouldn’t mind if they went after a guy like Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois instead of Cordy Glenn (who I don’t really like as a first rounder) with the 21st pick. Dunlap has been terribly inconsistent and injury prone. Plus Frostee and Fanene are free agents. With Mercilus, the Bengals D-Line could dominate a game in the mold of the Giants.
Animal_Like_Football - February 11, 2012
Mercilus is a 3rd rounder IMO.
Probably lower than most but he doesn’t flash anything special on tape.
Cry - February 11, 2012
I'll admit I'm not really a tape guy, so I get my info second hand
Here’s what I’ve read on the guy:
WalterFootball.com
And I don’t think WalterFootball is alone here. I haven’t seen anybody give this guy lower than a 1st round grade. Again, I’m not claiming to be an expert, I’m just listening to what other experts are saying.
Animal_Like_Football - February 11, 2012
dunlap inconsistent
he was the number one rated pass rusher in the league before the hamstring injury according to pro football focus? he came back from that and was still a factor
cincybengals - February 11, 2012
Sure, when he's healthy he's a top 10 pass rusher in the NFL.
But he’s missed 8 games in 2 years and has been slowed down in other games because of injury. That’s what I meant by inconsistent. He’s got to stay on the field.
Animal_Like_Football - February 11, 2012
I am completely on board with drafting a DE
Why? Because we could use one more dynamic pass rusher opposite Dunalp. I’m not worried about Dunlap’s consistency, however I would love to have another guy who could consistently get there
The Dealio - February 11, 2012
+1
And the fact that we might loose either Fanene or Frostey it would be nice to keep up that multiple player rotation. Out side of Dunlap and Atkins no one on that line is really a stand out but you keep throwing fresh legs at a offensive line that stays the same and you have a recipe for a lot of sacks. Our line is why we had so many sacks our leading LB was Howard with 2.
Bigcatdaddy - February 11, 2012 via Android app
Best way to help a secondary is to get to the QB.........
we need help in the secondary, so drafting/signing a couple CB’s and drafting a stud DE would be a-ok with me.
The Van Buren Boys - February 11, 2012
I agree to some extent.
Any secondary can cover for three seconds, so if the line can get there extremely fast you’re in good shape. That said, I still want to have a much, much better situation in the secondary. Remember how much it helped this defense to have Joseph and Hall? They allowed Zimmer to freely call blitzes, the defense didn’t get shredded when the D-line couldn’t get there quickly, etc. Having two great CBs is almost needed to be a top defense against the pass.
I don’t mind improving the front seven, but I think it’s already good enough to where CB is a much more pressing need.

Jason I liked your picks better
Especially the first 3. If we can’t get the best RB in the draft then lets wait till the 2nd.
Bigcatdaddy - February 11, 2012 via Android app
I would hate that draft!!!!
Here’s mine
Round 1
Round 2
RB- Doug Martin
Round 3
Guard – Brandon Brooks
Round 4
DT- Deerek Wolfe
Round 5
OT – Levy Adcock
SS- Matt Daniels
biggie22 - February 11, 2012
Because Rey got in a scuffle at a bar?
No, its way too early to move on.
The Dealio - February 11, 2012
We may have Reys replacement in house
If it comes to that. I’m all for BPA but if it comes down to CB or LB we should go CB.
Bigcatdaddy - February 11, 2012 via Android app
Rey still has a year on his contract
unless Upshaw falls to us, then i wouldn’t even consider an LB in the draft until next year, if Rey doesn’t improve his play.

I'm not a fan of your first round picks at all.
Dennard isn’t that good and Glenn is a titty monster. All of your picks after that are good, though.
sexsalad - February 11, 2012
This.
I hate the first round but everything else is gravy.
Doc Scratch - February 11, 2012
I like the Martin pick but the other picks in the first 3 rounds I don't care much for.
I like Gilmore more than Jenkins. Konz better than Glenn, and I can live with the 3rd round pick but think there would be someone better value on the defensive side of the ball.
TCfromDubVee - February 11, 2012
like with one change
take Gilmore over Dennard.
MINE
A.
1-17) Gilmore or Jenkins
1-21) Cordy Glenn
2) Doug Martin
Now this is all with the thought that Decastro is gone. If he is still there then I go this way !!
B.
1-17) DeCastro
2-21) Gilmore or Jenkins
2) Doug Martin
Now if Trent Richardson is still there I’m conflicted
C.
1-17) DeCastro
1-21) Richardson
2) Gilmore or Jenkins
D. or
1-17) Richardson
2-17) DeCastro or Glenn
2) Gilmore or Jenkins
So which one do you like better A-B-C-D ?
BengalDude - February 11, 2012
I like B
biggie22 - February 11, 2012
I like your choices better Jason
Though I would take Gilmore over Dennard.
jim0ijk - February 11, 2012
The Playoff Game Against Houston
Houston ran 57 plays.
24 of the plays were to running back Arian Foster.
Who can resist Trent Richardson.
Some Scouts say TR is the best prospect since Adrian Peterson.
Is TR worth our 17 pick in the first round and our 53 in the second?
Bengals have only one guy who opposing teams have to gameplan for. AJ Green.
Is TR worth our 17 and 53?
Is giving up 17 and 53 worth giving the ball to TR (3 down back) more than 33% of plays on a bad day?
Chili Dog - February 11, 2012
Kentucky has a great shot for #8
Make room in the trophy case cause this team is a juggernaut. They play better against tougher competition so if they make thr sweet 16 it’s all down hill. Big Blue Nation baby. Go Cats!

UK Sucks
Diesel2405 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Say what you want
When your team is sitting at home watching the final four. Let me guess your a UC fan or something. They can’t hang and your dreaming if you think they can. If someone has an opinion not to your liking it either sucks or it’s garbage.
Bigcatdaddy - February 11, 2012 via Android app
Michigan State actually
Let me guess. You were secretly a UK fan when they were terrible the last decade and since they now sign 1 and done players and are better you go out of your way to let everyone know your the biggest UK fan in the world?
Diesel2405 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Why did you wait till the game was over to say your a msu fan?
Were you going to say OSU?
Bigcatdaddy - February 11, 2012 via Android app
And UK sucks because most of their fans out like steeper fans
Never been to Kentucky, never had a relative that went to Kentucky, basically have no affiliation to Kentucky what so ever, they just decided to be a fan because they have a lot of titles. Plus I’m from Cincinnati so everything from Kentucky sucks
Diesel2405 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Should say "are like steeler fans"
Fucking auto correct
Diesel2405 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Oh and if you would like we can make a nice friendly bet
Michigan State is in the final four
Diesel2405 - February 11, 2012 via mobile
I've been a UK fan all my life
I was born and raised there. I’ve bled blue through the good and the bad. I’ve had 2 of my personnel friends play there one in the early 90’s and Miller now. And I’ll bet you anything you want that if UK gets the chance to play Michigan St they smash them. Put your money where your mouth is cowboy! Don’t hate on a team because they get better players. UK basketball is a great tradition and kids want to come play there. They’ve always had standout players. The only reason for the one and done.is because of NBA rules not allowing kids to come out of high school into the NBA. Wish it would’ve.happened earlier because LeBron probably would’ve played there. Haters pfff!!

It's easy to criticize if you don't make your own contribution.
Who would you take?
Animal_Like_Football - February 11, 2012
Here tis I've seen all these players play and they have been impressive
1 Peter Konz G/C Wisconsin
1 Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina
2 Doug Martin RB Boise St. –
3 Jared Crick DT/DE Nebraska – Won’t be here so I picked him would be a first rounder if it wasn’t for injury
4 Emmanuel Acho OLB Texas
5 Marvin Jones WR California – Can’t pass him here
5 Marquis Maze WR/PR Alabama
6 Larry Warford G Kentucky – Will start next year only problem it’ll be for Kentucky 2-3 round talent
7 Kelcie McCray SS Arkansas State – added a 7th
messjunk - February 12, 2012

Free Agency and 2011 and 2012 cap
Here’s my quesiton
Titans resigned a guy today – few other teams have been extending some guys before Free Agency.
Since they Bengals were under cap in 2011, could they resign/extend now and front load guaranteed money so it would hit under 2011 cap – so it would no be as big of a hit in 2012 (where they still have a ton of room), and future years
That would be impressive if they could pull that off – probably dreaming
TX Bengal - February 11, 2012
I'll take MTD's
I’d rather have Dennard then Jenkins but the postions for each slot was right, Stephen Hill would be a great fit for our offense especially with Shipley coming back and Whalen looking like a decent 4th-5th Wr/slot guy.
Spenser Duke Blevins - February 11, 2012
Stephen Hill
6-5 215, 28 reception on a team that does not throw, for 820yds and 5td. Think AJ on one side and Calvin Johnson/Dez Bryant type on the other side.
Spenser Duke Blevins - February 11, 2012
He'd have to really blow up the combine for me to want him in the second round.
Animal_Like_Football - February 11, 2012
Just for grins, let's say you trade with the Viking for the #3 pick... Who would you take?
With Simpson headed for Plaxico’s old cell, would you take Blackmon at #3? Having a WR tandem of A.J. Green and Blackmon would be incredible!
Douglas M - February 12, 2012
No Richardson, Kirkpatrick neither DeCastro at #17 so
1a. Stephon Gilmore, CB- SC
1b. Cordy Glenn, OG-UGA
2. Doug Martin, RB-BS
3. Mitchell Schwartz, OT-Cal. (Collins-FA; Smith-last year)
4. Marvin Jones, WR-Cal. (Simpson, Caldwell-FA)
5a. Josh Chapman, DT-Ala. (Sims-FA)
5b. Trenton Robinson, FS-MS (Nelson-FA)
6. Scott Wedige, C-NI (in case of Cook injury)
