If you're starting to choke on all the mock drafts that we keep shoving down your throat, take a big drink and get ready for more. In SB Nation's latest mock draft, Ryan Van Bibber selected a cornerback and guard for the Cincinnati Bengals with their two first-round picks.

Take that big drink to clear your throat? Ok, here we go.

With the No. 17 pick, according to SB Nation, the Bengals take......

Star-divide

..... North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Another perfect match of talent and need punches up the Bengals' secondary. As promising as their season was in 2011, they really could have used Johnathan Joseph, who slipped away in free agency to make Houston a playoff team. Jenkins plays man and zone really well, giving the Bengals some options.

It's true that Jenkins is talented and it's also true that the Bengals definitely need help at the cornerback position. However, I don't like Jenkins' off-field baggage, which is something the Bengals don't need. In Van Bibber's mock, both Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and Alabama safety Mark Barron are both available and I think I'd rather have each of them at No. 17 than Jenkins.

With the No. 21 pick, Van Bibber has the Bengals taking Georgia guard Cordy Glenn.

Both of Cincinnati's starting guards are bound for free agency this year. Bobbie Williams, the better of the two, landed on IR with a broken ankle in December, and at 36 he can no longer be counted on to start 16 games. Glenn flashed some talent for playing on the blind side at the Senior Bowl. He has a real knack for working on the inside where the Bengals could really use him.

I gotta say, I like this pick. Ever since Glenn really blew up in the week heading up to the Senior Bowl, I've been a fan. He's the best guard other than David DeCastro and the Bengals definitely need some help at guard. I wouldn't mind at all if Glenn was taken with the Bengals' second first-round pick.

So, what do you think about this mock draft?

decastro at 17 and Glenn at 21
Depending on what is accomplished during Free Agency, I would be quite happy with this
question than is who plays left and who plays right
DeCastro plays right guard at Stanford, Glenn is the left tackle at Georgia

So I’d keep DeCastro at right guard and just put Glenn at left guard (at Georgia, Glenn has played at right guard, left guard, and this year at left tackle)

NO to Jenkins

Dre Kirkpatrick at 17 & Cordy Glenn at 21

decastro at 17 and jenkins at 21
Decastro at 17 & Kirkpatrick at 21

Jenkins is not as good as Dre…Kirkpatrick is a hard hitter and run stopper and shows natural instinct and was the #1 CB coming out of high school.

Man, this would be awesome.

Kirkpatrick is a beast and is also a big corner. With the size of today’s receivers we need someone who has got some size, but can still run.

my idea of awesome is kirkpatrick, decastro, and richardson all fall to us

we trade our 2nd round pick this year and our 2013 1st rounder away for a pick in 18-20 range and land all 3 of them..

playoff bound in 2012 =)

Get on the horn 'wook......make it happen!

As long as we don’t start calling ourselves the “Dream Team” after this happened, would love it!

After the Senior Bowl

I’m wondering if Glenn falls into the second round.
Jenkins is possible but why take the 3rd or 4th best player at the position in the first round? This makes no sense to me.

At 17, I’d want the player to be at the top of the position. At 21, I’d want at least the second best player at the position.

If the Bengals are smart they will fill their CB needs in FA anyway.

I think Glenn's performance during Senior Bowl practices and the game solidified him as a first round pick

During practice he was stonewalling Melvin Ingram, Courtney Upshaw, and even held his own against Quinton Coples. Upshaw even said Glenn was by far the best lineman he went up against.

During the game, while he did have a false start penalty, and looked iffy on some rushing plays, he was a monster at pass protecting. In fact, Glenn completely dominated OLB/DE Cam Johnson of Virginia during the game. Cam Johnson had a monster week of practice, but Glenn completely owned him in the game. Same for Vinny Curry – Glenn owned him on pass plays. In fact, when the North team coaches realized that Curry was being dominated by Glenn, they moved Curry and lined him up at LDE so that he would go up against Zebrie Sanders (and not Glenn). On Curry’s first play at LDE he completely blew up Zebrie. Curry had no such success again Glenn. By all accounts, Glenn actually impressed a lt of scouts during the entire senior bowl week. Very interested to see how Cordy does at the combine.

We'll see.

The problem isn’t his talent, its the overall talent of the OG class. With so many playing at a high level, I’m thinking the teams will wait til the 2ed round for OG rush.

I could see that happening. I like a lot of the OGs in this class - from Osemele to Zeitler to Brandon Washington to Kelemete to Brandon Brooks to Lucas Nix

I just really think highly of Cordy Glenn, and think he will have an All-Pro caliber NFL career (based nothing more than my own opinion, which admittedly is not worth anything).

I think it's given at this point that everyone wants Kirkpatrick, DeCastro, and Richardson

no use repeating it

They will all be gone anyway
Richardson & DeCastro maybe
If Decastro and Richardson are gone

I don’t care who we pick in the first as long as it’s not Cordy Glenn, Janoris Jenkins or Dennard. BPA this 2nd pick is more of a hiderous than a help who would we pick if we only had one first round pick for it would BPA no matter what position

I'm not crazy about Glenn in the first round

He coudl turn out to be very good, but he’s not NEARLY the prospect DeCastro is. He’s a giant lineman, but he’s raw and a little bit of a project and his pass protection is a work in progress. He could evolve into a Pro Bowler, but it might take some time. Clint Boling was supposed to be a day one starter (and year…he started day one, but you know what I mean). I wouldn’t exactly be upset if we drafted Glenn with the 21st pick, but I just feel like we could go in a different direction and get a big body to groom for the line in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. If we pick up a starting guard in FA I dont’ think there’s any chance we take Glenn or Konz in the first. Only DeCastro if he’s there.

His pass protection as a LT can be a work in progress

But in the Senior Bowl, he allowed exactly ZERO pressures on pass plays, and he played LT exclusively in the game.

However, Glenn’s pass protection as an OG is quite notable. Glenn is a completely dominant guard – watch 2009 and 2010 tape of Georgia games. The majority of his starts at Georgia were at LG and RG, not LT. I think a lot of people recall his struggles against Boise State in the first game this season when he was just getting comfortable at LT, and certainly had his struggles. But one has to look at Glenn’s entire four year body of work. As such, I think Glenn projects well as a dominant OG. Now some people will say that only elite guards are selected in round 1, and some think Glenn is not elite, but if you watch 2009 and 2010 tape (when Glenn played OG), you will see that he dominated in the best conference in college football. I think Glenn is a Carl Nicks-type guard. We will see how he performs at the Cpmbine.

+1

I’m with you. Glenn is a good pick at 21. He can play both T and G, is still a little raw which to me means he just has more upside. The Bengals have a history of taking big brutes as their linemen compared to smaller technic oriented guys. If the draft works out like this I wouldn’t be upset at all. Of course I’m like everyone else and want Kirkpatrick, Richardson, or DeCastro but if their gone these two guys are solid picks at those spots.

he's a risky pick

which is why he is “a little raw” and “had more upside”. I simply don’t agree with taking a non-elite guard in the first, it’s too big a risk

Why is your comment reserved for guards?? That comment should apply to all positions. in other words, i wouldnt want to take a non-elite anything in round round.

Or does your restriction just apply to non-elite guards. Your saying can be applied to all positions, not just guards. For example, I certainly wouldn’t want to take a non-elite tackle in the first round, or a non-elite running back, a non-elite safety, non-elite corner. Thus, your comment of not wanting to pick a non-elite guard is not limited to just guards. Common sense tells us a team would not want to select a non-elite any position in the first round.

With that said, in any given draft, there are maybe only 5-10 truly elite prospects (if that). Therefore, it stands to reason that ant team picking after #10 in the first round will most likely not draft an elite prospect. Thus, there will be plenty of non-elite players picked in the first round, and in today’s passing game, a very good, versatile, and experienced guard is likely to be more valued than even a good running back.

Im just saying that guards aren't often taken in the first round.

therefore, to take a guard who isn’t even considered elite at his position seems foolish at 17 or 21

"in any given draft, there are maybe only 5-10 truly elite prospects (if that). Therefore, it stands to reason that ant team picking after #10 in the first round will most likely not draft an elite prospect. "

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU… finally some one gets it lol… and that is why TR wont fall to us!!!

I know this was about gaurds, but you couldn’t have said it any better. Talent will trump need if your in the top 5 or even top 10. There are simply some players you cant let go by just because you don’t “need” them lol

David DeCastro @17 Kendall Wright @21
Jenkins

If jenkins stays out of trouble which he has done for awhile he WILL be an elite shutdown corner.

first two rounds

we should take the best available, cb, cb, og in that order. I’ll leave the choices to those who actually get to make them. this group coming out are stout for both of these positions and we need to take advantage while available. the niners benefited from taking to cb’s 1-2 in the 80’s we should do the same. take a solid rb in the third.

why would we pick two CBs in the first and/or in the second round when we only need one?

Plus, there is a good chance that Trent Richardson falls far enough to where we can trade up and get him. And why wouldn’t we go for him when RB is a pretty big need for us?

though both CB and OG are deep

you can’t force yourself to reach at two positions and avoid a great value pick at another position

taking two

hall probably won’t be the same. who do we have that can shut down top receivers in man coverage. this league is about the pass and until we find dominant corners we will continue to be average at best. our need for safety will be less vulnerable with great outside coverage. a strong o-line with a decent rb will fill the bill.

i don't beleive hall wont be the same even tho its an achillies injury

the fact that Leon plays CB should help him recover and he wont have as much wear and tear as a RB or OL or any positions that requires a lot of pressure to be applied to his achilles every snap.

achillies

back peddling and driving off a cut requires a great deal of pressure and that is every down.
even with him we need to improve this position a great deal and this is the time.

every player takes on their own weight at every postion.

CBs generally play in space and don’t have to worry about moving another body or worry about some else jumping on their back. So Leon is in a position that generally has less wear and tear, in which should help him recover faster and stay more healthy.

Im not too worried about him recovering and staying healthy. I just don’t want him to come back to fast and re-injury it.

Leon is a CB

Who tore his achilled playing CB. So how can you say CB’s don’t put alot of pressure on the achilles? They infact probably put more pressure on the achilles than just about any other position.

"Who tore his achilled playing CB. So how can you say CB’s don’t put alot of pressure on the achilles? They infact probably put more pressure on the achilles than just about any other position."

I can’t believe you just said that lol… CB puts more pressure on their achillies more than a OLs, DLs, RBs, TEs, and LBs. I must be missing something.

I would say the injury itself is a freak injury any time it happens, but im talking about recovery and the chances he re-injury’s it are slimmer because he plays CB, which is probably the second least physical position on the field.

Regardless

We should still bring in a CB from both the draft and free agency in case Leon doesn’t work out.

oh i agree

competition and depth never hurts a team. I kind of expect Leon to be on the pup list for next year. And we only kept 4 CBs on the roster most of last year. So I think they will keep 5 until Leon is back. So I don’t mind them signing a CB in FA for depth purposes and go after the CB they want in the first for the future.

I just don’t think that Leon will be as effected by the achilles injury as much if he was playing a different position.

Guards always go late

I think DeCastro is there at 17,unless we get jumped .Most teams know we are looking for a Guard. The only thing that would make me pass him up would be Richardson..We could still get Cordy Glenn at 21 and get Gilmore(CB) in the 2nd.
1a) Richardson (RB)
1b) Corey Glenn (G)
2) Gilmore (CB)
That would be a great draft!!

I mean Cordy Glenn

Yes to Jenkins in the 1st round but we must get a FA CB to ensure we have our bases covered. I do not want to enter the 2012 season with us relying on a rookie CB. Jenkins plus Cortland Finnegan and we’ll be in business.

No way would I use 1st round pick on Glenn. We drafted an OG in 3rd round last year. We have Hudson. We have Anthony Collins sitting on the bench. We can always sign Bobby Williams to a 1 year deal. I’d rather go for best available player with this pick than reaching for Glenn.

In my own personal mock

I have you guys picking up Alshon Jeffery at 17, David Wilson at 21, and the best DB available in the 2nd. This is all predicated on you either retaining your guards in FA or picking up Carl Nicks from New Orleans.

Why do I have these guys listed? Because Dalton/Green/Jeffrey/Wilson/Gresham running wild on the same team scares the living shit out of me.
