It's the most wonderful time of the year! No, no, it's not the opening day of Bengals training camp just yet, but we are exactly one week away from the NFL draft combine and the proper beginning of the draft season!! NFL Network has released their combine schedule so the hordes of draftniks and devout fans can schedule their lives around watching their favorite prospects run 40 yards as fast as they can, lift a lot of weight as much as they can, and jump as high as they can. Now, that might sound like the seventh layer of hell for some of you, my wife included, but it is heaven on earth for us here at Cincy Jungle. Check out the schedule (provided by SB Nation's Mocking the Draft) below.

For Bengals fans, February 25, 26, and 27 will be days to watch and see if any top prospects possibly drop out of the 1st round and fall to the Bengals in the second, or if any players emerge and become first round prospects for the Bengals. It's an exciting time to be a Bengals fan, and you can kick off the most anticipated off-season in a long time by watching the draft combine and rooting for your favorite prospects. Well, you can watch it if you have DirecTV or Insight, but if you don't have either of those cable providers, bars and restaurants normally open at 11am on weekdays.

look at that stud

if only i had a sixpack like that

The Picture

I threw up in my mouth

LOL

that’s the exact reaction I was going for. hahaha

That is hot!

Wasted pick

For where he was drafted and what he’s contributed… Moobs is a fail.

Completely disagree

Not really sure where (or why) all the recent Andre Smith bashing on this site (especially by some of the new writers) is coming from??

Andre was a more than solid contributor to a playoff run no one saw coming this season. Everyone was worried what type of shape Andre would be in when camp started this past summer because their was no team supervision and no OTAs because of the lookout.

Many people on this site rather ignorantly assumed that Big Andre would show up overweight and out of shape. Andre proved them all wrong and show up in the best shape of his life, and really started to come into his own as a pass blocker. He had his struggles run blocking, but so did all other Bengals o-lineman (including Whit). So to say that Andre has been a, “complete fail” serves nothing more than highlight your own ignorance with regard to Andre’s solid play this year. Again, his pass blocking, alone, was pretty good. And for those who will say that I want the #6 overall pick to be more than “solid” or “pretty good”, just took a look at the rest of thw OT selected in that draft (as well as other recent highly drafted o-lineman). Jason Smith (the #2 overall pick) will likely be released this offseason. Monroe has played well in Jacksonville, but he has also had his struggles at times, and Michael Oher is more recognized for the movie based on his life story, than his stellar play on the field (and please, Oher is only a pro bowler thanks, in large part, due to name recognition). Smith is a better player than Oher. Also, Cardinals OT Levi Brown, a top 5 pick in the 2007 draft will likely be released this offseason, too.

Smith showed us a lot this year, in terms of his desire to be in the best shape in his life, and with his play on the field. Some cynical people will say that he is only motivated by his expiring contract, but note that his contract doesn’t expire until after this upcoming season, so it stands to reason that if that were his true motivation, he wouldn’t have bothered to show up in great shape this past season.

Not sure where all this Andre Smith bashing is coming from? It is certainly not warranted. Those who actually watched him play will realize that he is starting to become that dominating force he is cable of being. On the other hand, other (less informed) fans will simply never let go of the image that appears at the top of this article, or his lengthy rookie holdout, or his early struggles (with injuries more than anything), and will simply always hold it against Andre, even when his play this past year clearly shows that he had a pretty good season, and was arguably our best offensive lineman.

agreed

i think he has matured a lot of the last couple of years per Marvin. I think this year will be the best year to determine if he is a “bust or not”. And if he continues to improve like he did last year, he will be well worth the pick!

You are allowed to have your opinion.

I agree with you that he had a good season this past year, but it is the only season he has done remotely well in since being drafted in 2009. That is not good, and for a no. 6 pick in the draft, it shouldn’t have taken him 3 years to actually produce. Michael Oher was taken at the end of the first round and produced his first year. Andre Smith didn’t care about football and it showed by his ethic his first two years.
And to set the record straight, I’m not bashing Smith but I am merely pointing out that he has had an awful last three years and his only productive year was 2011. That is NOT GOOD for the amount of money the Bengals paid him in 2009.
And to say that he was arguably the best lineman in 2011 is ludicrous. Whitworth was the best olineman on the team, Bobbie Williams was the next best, and Smith was a faaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr third. And he was only third because our other linemen were AWFUL.

I hope they re-sign him because of his production this past year, but wouldn’t be surprised if they drafted another tackle and groomed him to take over for Smith next year.

Am still rooting for Smith and think we're just seeing his potential.......

but like Mike said above, that’s ok………for a 3rd-4th round pick and above. Not for a pick that high, those guys should contribute right away in year one. Granted he had injuries, but from everything we’ve seen and heard those injuries were also a part of lack of conditioning on his part also. I hope he comes through big this year, but he has been a disappointment so far. Not giving up, but expect a lot from him this coming year.

I always try to base my opinions on facts. Opinions based on misinformation, misperception, or factual inaccuracies are baseless, however. Therefore, a couple of things:
And to set the record straight, I’m not bashing Smith but I am merely pointing out that he has had an an awful last three years and his only productive year was 2011.

First, if (as you asserted above) Andre had an “awful last three seasons”, yet had a “productive” 2011 season, then that means you are saying he was awful in 2010, 2009, and 2008 (i.e. awful 3 seasons). I’m not exactly sure how he can be considered awful in 2008 during his last year at Alabama when he won the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman (offensive or defensive lineman btw!!!) in college football. So I’m not sure what you mean by that quote, but it certainly is not based in fact. However, if you meant Andre has struggled in his three seasons as a pro, well, again, that opinion is simply NOT based in fact. He actually played very well this season.

And to say that he was arguably the best lineman in 2011 is ludicrous. Whitworth was the best olineman on the team, Bobbie Williams was the next best, and Smith was a faaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr third

In looking at the numbers, Andre gave up the exact same number of sacks (3), qb pressures (16), and qb hits (3) as Big Whit, hence my assertion that he “was arguably our best offensive lineman” last year. I did not say “definitely” or “certainly”, I said “arguably” which implies what it means. That is, a (rather strong) argument can be made that Andre was our best lineman last year. He graded as a markedly better pass blocker than Bobbie Williams this past season (4.8 PFF pas blocking grade compared to Bobbie’s 0.9 PFF grade), and while Bobbie Williams was a better run blocker than Andre, note that Bobbie only played in 9 games this season (i.e. which is only 2 more games than Andre played in 2010 when people were claiming that he couldn’t get on the field). Thus, in looking at the PFF grades (which admittedly do not always tell the complete story) Andre received the second highest pass blocking grade (behind Whitworth), yet still allowed the exact same number of sacks, qb pressures, and qb hits as Whitworth. Additionally, when you factor in that Whitworth gave up all those pressures at the end of the Ravens game in Baltimore when the Bengals had a first and goal inside the Ravens’ 10 yard line (reports after the game said it had to do with silent snap count issues, but nonetheless), plus Whitowrth’s critical holding penalty that negated a crucial third down conversion to Simpson in the first Steelers game, it is certainly anything but “ludicrous” to say that Andre was arguably our best offensive lineman last year. Whitworth (who I really like btw, and who I’m not meaning to slight in the least) was clearly better as a pass protector, but Andre was much better in the running game compared to Whitworth.

A game that sticks out to me, and which speaks to Andre’s maturation, was the second Cleveland game (played on 11/27). Jabaal Sheard really was dominating Andre Smith in the first half of that game (I think 2 of Andre’s 3 sacks he gave up all season were given up in the first half to Sheard). The second half was a completely different story, and Smith (and the coaching staff) clearly made the proper adjustments at halftime. Smith dominated Sheard in the second half. Also, if you remember the phenomenal Dalton-Green 51-yard pass that set up Nugent’s game winning field goal that game, I urge you to watch that play again closely. Smith does a great job in pass protection on that play (against Sheard), while Big Bobbie (who you claim was “clearly” our second best lineman last year) gets completely shoved back into Dalton’s face. In fact, the reason the throw sailed was because Dalton stood strong in the pocket, fully knowing that he was about to get hit from the Cleveland defensive lineman (either Phil Taylor or Ahtyba Rubin) who was shoving Bobbie straight back into him and collapsing the pocket.

Bottom line, Smith’s play last season does not warrant incessant criticism regarding his first two pro seasons.

Finally,

And to set the record straight, I’m not bashing Smith but I am merely pointing out that he has had an awful last three years and his only productive year was 2011. That is NOT GOOD for the amount of money that the Bengals paid him in 2009.

Of course that wasn’t good for the amount of money they paid him, but the Bengals and Smith were both at odds over his contractual worth after he was drafted – hence the prolonged holdout!!!!!! The Bengals had to pay him at a level commensurate with a top ten draft pick. With the rookie scale contained in the new CBA, however, this problem will simply not happen in the future.

And to add on more thing, playing tackle is far more difficult playing gaurd.

Both Whit and Smith had to deal with all pro DE’s through out the year. Both players deserve a lot of credit on how well they play last year. And thats kinda scary to think about if we add a Nicks or Grubs to our line.

So much potential, we will be set for a while after we resign smith.

Agree.

And like you (and A lot of others) I’m all in on signing either Nicks or Grubbs!!

My bad.

He was awful in his last two season before 2011. Thanks for the correction.

So, we are in agreement.

He was awful in 2009 and 2010, and he played very well in 2011. Great. I still don’t think he gets re-signed after next season.

Chill out. It’s a friendly discussion amongst fans. You don’t have to be so condescending in your remarks with the use of “quotation marks” when pointing out my “mistakes.”

Took him three years to be "the guy"

and as “the guy” he’s an average player. The only Bengals OL that scares anybody in game planning is Whit.

I think his foot fully healed up

& he played alot better last year, if he can stay healthy i think he’ll be the tackle we have been wanting in him.

Boobies

The Jello commerical just ran through my mind. The shoes he has on makes it look like he has hooves which just makes it that much funnier.

That is such a troubling image......
"This picture is what Weight Watchers should use as an appetite suppressor."

Agreed!

I hate reply fails... :(
We love us some moobies
you bastard

i was about to eat lunch then i happened to check the site. now i’ve lost my appetite.

You know, every day Andre probably regrets running that 40 with no shirt on and cameras around.

it’s like the first picture that pops up when you google him, and there’s like 50 different versions of it.

The front of his torso looks like a face

His boobies look like eyes sticking out of his chest and his belly button looks like some malformed wide open mouth.

It's a Hippo face! or like a guy once said before............That creature from Star Wars.
One of the creatures from Return of the Jedi............

The bar scene where they meet the Bounty Hunter.

Okay guys, ease up on him.

I mean, this picture was taken in 2009 when he was out of shape and arguably didn’t care about football at all. He has lost about 50 lbs since then…so, yeah.

He still has moobs.........
What Olineman doesn't?
True, but I believe he is a D cup. lol
lol

He is definitely the Pam Anderson of NFL offensive linemen.

x

Those ummm….bewbs look like they are from national geographic article focused on the geriatric.

Now these….

those are some bewbs. Don’t be surprised if your offensive linemen try to cop a feel during one of your two games vs Baltimore next year.
Could you resist if you were them?

Holy crap!

How do you get like that? It looks like he was one of those 700lb people that lost 400lbs. Skin bag!

I don’t know man, lol. Even weirder, is how the heck do make it to the NFL looking like that?

Nose tackle for the Ratbirds!!
com'on man... we all know muscle wieghs more than fat ;- )
