2012 NFL Draft: Latest Mock Draft has Same Story, but Different Possibilities for the Bengals

Add one more to the list: Charley Casserly of NFL.com has come out with his latest mock draft. This mock is much like many others with the Bengals taking Janoris Jenkins with the no. 17 pick, but it is the blurb underneath the pick that stands out from other mock drafts:

If I were in charge in Cincy, I would try to trade up and acquire Trent Richardson. But cornerback is a big need, too. (And the Bengals can address running back with their second first-round pick ...)

Star-divide

Casserly is one of the few commentators who thinks that the Bengals should trade up to get Richardson. Most mocks have Richardson either falling to the Bengals or have the Bengals drafting a RB with their second first round pick or in the second round. While my feelings have been made clear regarding trading up for Richardson, Casserly believes that it would be a smart move by the Bengals to trade up for him. Casserly doesn't make clear what he would give up or who he would trade up to, but he has the Chiefs taking Richardson at no. 11. Trading up that high would easily cost the no. 17 pick, a third, and a fourth, if not more, which might be too much for a RB, in a deep talent pool, in the first round.

Casserly admits that cornerback is a big need for the Bengals and that they can draft another RB with their second round pick, but Casserly has the Bengals selecting Lamar Miller out of Miami.

Miller would be a good pick, but I think drafting him in the first would be comparable to drafting Chris Perry in 2004. It is a stretch and could go either way, but there are other positions that could be addressed with the no. 21 pick when Miller would, most likely, be available for the Bengals in the second round. Also, Miller might not even be the second-best RB prospect available since David Wilson and Chris Polk will likely be available. Wilson and Polk might be better options for an offense in the hard-hitting AFC North since they are a bit bigger and have a bit more experience than the redshirt sophomore. One thing is for sure: the combine will shed a lot of light on who the Bengals will be looking at to fill the RB void that the Bengals will likely address in the draft.

Casserly has some chops

having picked Mario Williams over Reggie, so got to give him some due.

Lets say was do as he suggests. Then during training camp TR breaks a leg or tears his ACL. Then what do we have to show for our two first round picks?

Yeah I know it can happen to any guy they draft. But its half as likely to happen with two picks.

agreed

If I could pick one person to be our GM, it would be Charley. Not only was he right, but he had strength in his convictions. I’m surprised he’s not back in the game yet.

But in this case, I don’t think we want to trade up too far. I could see leapfrogging the Jets but that’s about it. Let the draft come to us. we have plenty of needs, and can get an impact player to address one of them at 17.

Btw, how ironic is it that the guy that passed on Reggie Bush is advising to trade up to get a RB? LMAO :)

Lamar Miller out of Miami.

Lamar is the real Deal …. And we need a back that can take it to the house in the 4th quarter to put teams away for good.

Again … Take it to the house( not run into people or try to run up the offensive line mans back… But one who can make people miss and take it to the house …..MILLER CAN.

1# De’castro

2# Miller

Perfect order.

Cant Wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!

To have Miler and De’Castro in Orange and Black

WHHHOOO DEYYYYYYYYYYY

I love when you agree with your own comments haha.

Always makes me laugh.

Totally agree, He is the Real Deal!

With Miller running behind Decastro , Whitworth ,Collins, Smith & Cook.
Sounds like a plan.

I Live in Miami and have seen Miller "Live"

Alot of people are going to see what kind of athlete this Kid is come……Combine Time!

Saw him play live in 3 games this year

And I agree people may not like it now or if they pick him in the draft. But by time the season starts they will be singing a different tune. I think he has so much room to grow. So if the line gets improved by next year it wouldn’t surprise me if Miller was a top 5-10 back in the league.

Looking forward to it

Then we will see the Truth in Action.

Too much RB depth

in this draft and not a lot of teams willing to use a high pick for one. I say draft Richardson at 17 if he is there no questions. If not wait till the second round and take the best available in this order Miller, Wilson, Martin, Polk. You can change the order if you want but at least two if not all 4 will be there for out second round pick

WE NEED A CB

Badly. Top prospect cornerbacks in the first round have a high percentage of living up to the hype. We can wait on an RB for round two.

1st Round: De’Castro + Cornerback

2nd Round: RB

Trent Richardson or no other RB in the 1st

Lamar miller is not worth a 1st & neither is david wilson

Pics

They have two 5th round pics, and probably need to draft 2 CBs. Mark Barron just had double hernia sergury and wont attend the combine. Also Wylie is a 5’9 slot reciever and with Shiply, Hawkins, and Whalen I think we have plenty of slot guys. If they loose Simpson they need a nother big reciever. I do believe Rainey is underrated and a good back, but the 5’7 208 lb back isnt going to come in and be our feature back. We already have a small speed back in Scott, we need a big body back to pound away at the tough AFC North Ds……..

Rainey would be the gadget back/kickoff and punt returner
If we pick up Stanford Routt we don't need to take a CB in the 1st

but as of now i’d either take Dre Kirkpatrick in the 1st or what till the 2nd to take Minnifield or Hosley, i woudn;t use a 1st on Jenkins Dennard or Gilmore

to acquire the 11th pick

the draft chart values are:

11 (1250pts) – 1st round 11th pick
43 (470pts) – 2nd round 11th pick
vs

17 (1000pts) – 1st round 17th pick
21 (800 pts) – 1 st round 21 st pick
-———————————————————————

there is your approximate cost to trade with the chiefs, both of our 2012 1st round picks for the chiefs 1st round and 2nd round picks.

which leads me to say this for the 1st time, trading up while it wouldn’t make me happy, wouldn’t be that bad for our draft. we could still land a solid DB at #43. probably the 5th to 7th db taken in the draft.

it would mean the chiefs would probably land 1-2 of the players we’re hoping for in the 1st round though. decastro, jenkins, kirkpatrick. that is what the trade would cost us.

Sorry to correct you

But 43 would be 44 and I’m sure we could wangle a 5th or even a 4th out of them. Kansas & Seattle would both want to trade back. I’d take DeCastro there

so you are saying the chiefs

have the 11th pick in the 1st round and the 12th pick in the round?
http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

don’t think it matters much to the total valuation of the deal. would shift the value of their picks by -10. from 1720 to 1710. with the bengals still offering 1800 points in value with the 2 1st. the difference in the 80 points is the only reason kc would trade. they aren’t going to give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (1800 pts) for our two firsts (1800 pts).

The picks swap each round them and Seattle depending who wins coin flip
To many needs for us to trade up.

Stand firm at our picks and fill holes without reaching. One of our major needs should be filled with our 17th pick. Pick BPA at 21. The draft is deep where we need it to be. We can get our needs filled in later rounds as well.

As A Bengals Fan From Cincy But Lives In FL

I can cosign that Lamar Miller is the real deal, I wouldnt trade a 1&2 for any RB bc even if we do get Trent the average RB shelf life is 5-6 years.. I’d sit back and take the BPA with the 1st 2 picks, U can find a Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles or MJD in round 2-3. Im down with Miller at 21 as well he’s a home run hitter/ playmaker

Rb's drafted in 1st Rd last 11 years

How many of these guys would you trade two draft picks for?

2000- Jamal Lewis

LT *
LJ
S-Jax * (ouch)
AP *
DMac
CJ *

  • worth 2 first rounders
How about Thomas Jones?
+1

Great example

How many of the second RB taken would you pick with a first round selection?
Who on the Above List:

can squat 650 lbs and
bench press 475 lbs ?
Who do you want to have the ball on 3rd and short ?

lol its okay chili, wait till we trade up and pick TR

and when he has a stellar rookie season, we will see what these people will be saying next year… only time will tell

Tell em Chili

I dont want to trade up for no reason, but TR is the real deal

We would not have to give both our 1sr rnd picks to move up

I’m not condoning it but I wouldn’t be mad if they made a move for TR. I haven’t read anywhere that has us giving both our 1st rnd picks to move up. All this talk about "no RB is worth two 1st rnd picks" is silly and I don’t know where in the hell it comes from. We would still be getting both our picks in all the scenarios they’ve had on here.

Same old draft cut and paste
Pick #17

plus a 3rd and a 5th for #11 works according to the Draft value chart.

I could care less about the 5th rd pick. Is it worth a 3rd to grab the RB of the future? Im on the fence!!!

This scenario wouldnt be to bad

I dont like the thought of losing any picks, but if there is anyone i would consider, it would be TR

To me

Miller is not the answer at RB and has bust written all over him

And yes I've actually watched quite a few of the canes games
Polk or Martin....

If T- Rich doesnt fall…

There are no impossibilities

Trade our 21st and also our second round pick in 2013 for Cheif’s best cb. Can’t think of his name??? Whodey!!!

Brandon Flowers?
Flowers is a safety

I think

One word

Pead

(also on another note if we get him and he does good like i think he will how fun will it be to go to a game and scream “you got pead on”)

I say...

Convert Rey M to rb. WHO-DEY!!! And yes that cb’s name is Flowers. Thanks!
