Filed Under Fun: Five-Year Old Girl Protests Homework Assignment

Not Emma Burton

Here's something you can file under fun. Driving into work Thursday morning, listening to ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning on a miserable drive down I-75, Mike Golic read the story of a five-year old girl named Emma Burton. From Fox 4 in Kansas City, the young girl "refused to participate in a class assignment where her class was told to color a Jayhawk — KU’s mascot." The problem is that Emma's a Kansas State fan. Did Emma give in to the teacher's ridiculously evil plans? Hell, no. Well not at first.

The assignment was part of the class’s celebration of the state of Kansas. Emma asked her teacher for a picture a Powercat, K-State’s mascot, because that’s where her parents attended college. But her teacher told her there weren’t any Powercats to color. That’s when Emma threw the Jayhawk in the trash.

Emma’s teacher told her mother about her actions after school. At home, Emma’s mother, Julie Burton, made a bargain with her daughter. She would color the Jayhawk she threw in the trash, but she could also color a Powercat that her mother printed — but only if she wrote an apology letter with it. She consented, but announced the next day she would go to school wearing a K-State shirt.

Emma returned to class the following day and when the project was "officially recognized by her teacher, later that day Emma trashed her Jayhawk coloring sheet at home." So do we have any Bengals fans outside deep in another team's territory with a similar story?

i dont know if you can consider

a K-State fan in KU terrority deep in enemys territory.

Why couldn't you?

If a Louisville fan is in Lexington, you’re deep in Wildcat territory. Sorry.

But your still in kentucky which is all wildcat territory

but also the territory of any other kentucky based school.

What about a Kentucky fan in Indiana?

You wouldn’t believe all the crap I caught over a lucky last second shot….

No because

college rivalries are waaaaaay more intense than any professional rivalry and it’s not even close. Go down south and you’ll find stories way nuttier than this one.

This story is funny though. Keep the faith little one!

Not Bengals

But my kids get harrassed for their Ohio State gear here in Iowa territory.

Stick to your guns Emma!

I’m a die hard Bengals/UK fan smack dab in the middle of Cowboy/Longhorn country. I don’t catch much flack over my UK gear but when I do the #8 championships & the most wins in Ncaa mens bball response usually quiets the hecklers. Being a Bengals fan is where I catch the most grief although this yr it worked out well. The bar I frequent on Sundays has every team in the NFL represented by diehard misplaced fans like myself. Theirs only 3 Bengal regulars which is the smallest crowd by far. These guys Love to bet and money isn’t usually what’s at stake. I had a Bills fan in a skirt, seahawks fan in a C. Johnson jersey, and a Cards fan in a Reds hat by the end of the season. I got away with out a dent in my pride because I’m pretty good at picking my battles. Next years Cowboys game could get very interesting for me ;-) I’m open to ideas to making Dallas fans suffer.

Sorry #7 championships.

I got ahead of myself counting this yrs already.

Hahaha I went to UK and live in NKY

And you just about lost your Kentucky fan card with that 8 championships remark Lolololol jk.

Funny story though…. Obviously, being a Kentucky fan and Alum, I go to a game or two a season. Well, a couple buddies and I went down to Chapel Hil, NC to watch the Cats and Heels last season. I think Kentucky was ranked 13th in the country at the time and NC was just starting to string some wins together. Well, needless to say, they beat Kentucky by two and some of their fans started to run their mouths. I turned around and said, “7….” One NC fan didn’t understand what that meant I guess ad said, “Not anymore.” I guess he thought I was saying “We’re ranked 7th in the country.” ? So obviously, I just started dying laughing. I wish I could’ve told him that I meant Nat’l Championships, but I couldn’t talk because I was laughing so hard. Those Heels fans crack me up.

I know all about the Heal fans

Me best friend down here is a NC faithful. When they beat us he always makes his rub it in phone call. Although the last 2 times we played them he hasn’t answered the phone lol. I had to send him a text after we played them in last yrs tourney ( Did you hear about Nike’s new shoe called the Final Four? The best thing about is there’s no Heal! Needles to say we can’t watch the games together. We might be good friends but that would definitely cause a fight.

Haha I hear ya brother.

I respect the hell out of North Carolina, but they’re arrogant as hell. People say Kentucky fans are, but I think we’re a bunch of red necks for the most part. Oh well….

Nonetheless, this season is going to be exciting. That’s for sure. Go Cats!

Almost reminds me of that one Baltimore public school that had a Ravens pep rally and planned to make kids who weren't wearing purple sit in the library.
TRASH THE DUMB @S S TEACHER

What the hell is the dumb @s s Teacher picking One school over another, maybe they should have a “DRAW A PICTURE OF THE NEXT FIRED TEACHER” and see who WIN’S!

Kansas & Kansas State have fans?

I though you have to have good teams to have fans. Interesting…..

Next thing you know, Prarie View A & M will start having fans.

ha ha :-)

Can't say that

I’ve ever been harassed for being a Bengals fan. I live in North Jersey and am surrounded on all sides by Jets and Giants fans, most of which probably don’t even know what league the Bengals play in. Most of the them don’t really care about non-rival teams. However it is quite annoying, living in a household of Giants fans, to have to deal with super bowl talk all the time. For the second time in 5 years I get to watch celebrations and autograph signings and local news posting clips of the parade, and all sorts of stuff like that. It gets annoying and I can only hope for a Cincy championship in the near future to be able to celebrate on my own. Heck, I’d probably make the trek out to Cincy for the parade if that happened.
