According to a report by the Associated Press on Yahoo! Sports, Cincinnati Bengals middle linebacker Rey Maualuga entered a plea of not guilty to misdemeanor assault charges on Friday stemming from a report that he punched a bar manager in the face on Feb. 5.
This is the second time that Maualuga has been in a local court room. Last January he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence and since this is his second charge possibly involving alcohol, if found guilty he could be facing a suspension or at least a fine from the NFL.
Since Maualuga has entered a plea of not guilty, he'll have to report to the Hamilton County Municipal Court in the future for another court date. The date of his next appearance has not yet been released. Stay tuned for more on the story.

The Bengals should've signed Ken Norton Jr
as their LB Coach to keep this terd out of trouble. Seems like that was the only time he wasn’t in trouble.
whodeycommish14 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
He was in trouble at USC also
What ever happened with the under aged girl incident?
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
I know he was in trouble at USC.
But that’s when Ken Norton really took him under his wing and led him through college. And what under age girl incident? I remember he was basically trying to beat everybody up on a drunken rage at a Frat party one night, but other than that, I don’t know of anymore charges at USC.

Under Age as in under 21 year old
that was in his car when he crashed here.
as far as i know she went home. she was 19 so if he was taking her home to bed that perfectly fine.

How about sign "Terry Tate office linebacker" as the linebacker's coach to keep players in check?
DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
Like how many eyewitnesses were there
Big right hand with the big hair and sleeve tatoos. How many other freaks are around like him. C’mon Rey. Was it self defense?
sofakingood - February 17, 2012
I would love to see
who is the dumbas* bar manager that would run his mouth off enough to Rey, that would make him want to punch him.
hewesdilg - February 17, 2012
This guy
Oregonbengalsfan - February 17, 2012

Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Damn, he's lucky Rey didn't hit him in that beak!
It would’ve broke his hand. Lol

Here's my question
Where was all this aggresion on the football field this past year???
Jungleboogie - February 17, 2012
Hard to use it effectively
when your taking on some one your own size. Wow, what a way to celebrate the anniversary of your DUI ruling. Get trashed and punch an innocent patron. What happened to the repented guy after being busted, swearing off alcohol and joining AA? I’m going to go out on a limb here and fore go the court room drama. Rey is a loser and should in no way be awarded the chance to play for this team again.
I want to be proud of this team and proud of the city where I grew up. Closing time at the bar is 2 am. I’m sure most of us have gone through the “last call!” act. But Rey was never supposed to be drinking again in the first place. He should have never 1. been there. 2. been drinking. 3. hit the guy. He’s the owner so it’s his responsibility to ensure every one else’ safety by kicking drunken cretins’ out the door.
Sorry for the diatribe, but this one irked me. What it come’s down to was that it’s a bitch move by an underwhelming, under performing loser. He can and should be replaced.
Do not allow citizens to be pummeled by these millionaire bruisers, I don’t care how many gold chains that dudes wearing or that he doesn’t button his shirt. I bet he didn’t deserve to get punched by a loser.
frickja - February 17, 2012
"punch an innocent patron"
hey buddy the moon is made of cheese…
do you believe everything you hear? why don’t you wait till the verdict is made before you pass any more judgements. Your just being ingnorant right now.
AMAS85 - February 17, 2012
Bengals would be a team of Catholic school girls if some of the people here had their way
Oregonbengalsfan - February 17, 2012
I made those comments
knowing I would take that kind of heat. Some things are just too transparent. I know I know this is America. Let the lawyers argue the case. His history suggests otherwise. I understand that football is a violent sport. That’s a primary reason for most of us watching it. But when your in the real world you gotta let cooler heads prevail.
BTW, do you dispute the fact that he was 1. at the bar? 2. drunk 3. Had a good reason to punch the guy? 4. didn’t punch the guy at all? or a combination of all four?
frickja - February 17, 2012
Anything is possible, im not going to disagree with that
but there is always two sides to every story. Its not against the law to drink or have a good time. I just highly doubt, the guy did nothing to get punched. He is looking for his 15 min of fame IMO. But again, im going to wait until there are more facts out about the situation.
the fact that he pled not guilty leads me to believe he has a strong case.
Also, if this story is true, my opinion of Rey would definatly change, but again, I highly doubt that guy did nothing to get punched. And why wasn’t Rey arrested that night if it really went down like he said?
AMAS85 - February 17, 2012
Intersesting tidbit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Low_8CMwJSs
Did a little research on the internet. Again, your right that the lawyers need to do there thing and “justice” I’m sure will prevail. Check the you tube link though if you have a moment and see what you think. FYI I am not putting Maualuga on trial, that’s not my job. I’m stating my opinion, which I certainly understand why some one else would disagree. I have never met either of these two but let’s say I’m going on a hunch.
frickja - February 17, 2012
This dude was punched in the eye?
And after watching that video… it screams I want attention. Indecisive on answers… Just don’t know what to think
Oregonbengalsfan - February 17, 2012
And to add
take it to court as is happening, and stay out of the media
Oregonbengalsfan - February 17, 2012
not sure if his guy is real but this is one of the comments left on the video
“I was wit rey that night and Sammy was drunk himself plus he walked up on rey with a aggressive demeanor i wish 700wlw would contact me
@DaBarberNcincy Cause Mr. Laham is not telling the truth”
Sammy himself said that the bengals barber was there. I wonder if this person is real and the same barber.
AMAS85 - February 17, 2012
thanks for the link, i will have to check it out when i get home
work = blocked sites lol
AMAS85 - February 17, 2012
sounds like sammy to me
As the guy said that it’s his part of his job to be studious to customers, especially when they are big players ( which, not trashing the Nati but this isn’t LA. Bengals players are about as high profile as you get 99 times out of 100). But, again, who knows. Maybe the guy is a dick and maybe he was drunk also and “DaBarber” is right. Sounds like there will be two sides to the story from various witnesses.
I gotta say though if that guy went up to Rey and disrespected him so much as to punch him in the face he either was drunk or is out of his mind!
Bottom line for my rant is that Rey has a history of unlawful behavior while drinking. Rey promised he was done drinking and attending meetings after his DUI. While it doesn’t sound like he was going to drive off with another unidentified 17 and 18 year old girl, he broke his promise in an odd twist almost a year to the day after he got his DUI.
One more FYI.. When he was arrested the night of the DUI he told the cops he had “about six Captain and Coke drinks”, and his blood alcohol level was .157. But that same morning at his arraignment he pleaded NOT GUILTY.
frickja - February 17, 2012
Yeah, I wouldn't read to much into the not guilty plea
It’s pretty much standard. It gives you time to drag it out and get your case together, plus if you make them think you want to take it to trial they’ll usually lower the plea agreement. It cost alot of money to put on a jury trial and for something as small as this it’s not worth it. Ask any lawyer they’ll never advise you to plea guilty the first time.
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
no its not
you plea not guilty if you know you can win. Or you plead guilty to get a lighter sentence.
AMAS85 - February 18, 2012
Actually, you would first enter a plea of "Not Guilty"
to get time to gather your case, find out everything the prosecution has, and find out what type of sentence the prosecution is looking for. Then you attorney comes to you and say, ok this is what they are offering if you plead guilty.
And go from there
Oregonbengalsfan - February 18, 2012
+1
That’s what I was saying. It’s pretty much standard. He was just arrested what? last Friday. It’s not, enough time to get things together.
Bigcatdaddy - February 18, 2012 via Android app
I guess I need to keep up with my law and order more often lol
but i guess thats true, it really doesn’t hurt to plea not to guilty.
Rey wasn’t arrested, Rey was cited. thats the part I don’t understand, Rey “beats up” a guy and the police on site don’t arrest him? sounds a little off to me.
AMAS85 - February 18, 2012
As for keeping up with law and order
I’ll just say, I was young kid once…
Oregonbengalsfan - February 18, 2012
of course
he’s playing the system. Luckily he has someone competent looking out for him (although it’s because he’s paid to do so). I can only be a fan of a player who respects the city that I love and the people who live in it. If I am wrong about this I’ll have to write an apology to all of Cincy Jungle but, as far as I’m concerned, the writing is on the wall.
Besides, he’s been terrible for the most part on the field anyway… Sheesh!!!
frickja - February 17, 2012
You don't have to apologize to anybody
Everybody has their opinion on this matter and I’m with you. It really doesn’t matter if the dude got in his face and called him a SOB, you still can’t punch a dude in the face. He screwed up an unfortunately the team and the fans pay for it as well. Maybe something good will come out of it., who knows.
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
your right, everyone has a right to their opinion
but i just don’t understand how anyone can just take that one guys side without knowing the whole story. Of course the guy is going to say he was drunk or what not. He wants to win the case and get more money. He wants to stir the pot and get more interviews. Do you think he gives out interviews for free?
The whole case is bogus in my mind. I found it interesting, that Sammy said rey came back up to him after he was assaulted. And he didn’t have the police contain him or arrest him. So there is something off about his story.
Again, Adam Jones didn’t even touch any one and got arrested. But Rey beats the crap out of some one and gets to go home? Can anyone see logic in that?
