A lot of things are going on in Bengaldom right now. Rey Maualuga is getting set to fight his legal battle against an assault charge, free agent cornerback Stanford Routt is visiting Cincinnati and the "Underwear Olympics" (AKA the Scouting Combine) starts next week. And now, very surprisingly, Hue Jackson is returning to Cincinnati.

Talk about whatever you want--it's your time to shine.

From one angle the offseason for the Bengals has been awesome

They upgraded everywhere while retaining Gruden and Zimmer.

I mean they've upgraded the coaching staff compared to those that left.
Alexander

Although I’ve been a long time supporter, I believe it’s time for new blood on the OL.

RE

We need blood playing positions. Overhaul.

I'm curious.

Why was Hue Jackson brought in as a secondary and special teams coach? Isn’t he an offensive guru? Wouldn’t this have been a perfect opportunity to put Hue as the OL coach?

RE

At least from a coaching staff perspective. Keep this train going with players, I say.

100% Agree, please keep it going. With our cap space, coaching new hire, free agency and this years draft, we are in for one interesting off season. Who Dey!!!
Just a thought

Not that I’m for it but if Simms leaves Haynesworth got released yesterday. I was a fan when he was in Tenn. That guy just pissed a great career away.

OH NO!!! NO WAY!!! Horrible attitude and horrible person for that matter
Keep the Picks

Do not go for Wallace or any other free agent who’s team will require our first round pick. We need 2 guards, possibly 2 DB’s, Possibly 2 safeties, multiple WR’s, a DT and a running back. Keep the picks.Pick men with minds for the game. Versatile, hardnosed winners.

Couldnt disagree more !!!!!!!!

Are you telling me you won’t give up the 21st pick, while still having the 17th overall pick and giving that to pittsburgh for the youngest and most explosive player in the NFL in Mike Wallace. i Understand the guard situation and other things, but you instantly upgrade that offense to a level even greater than what we saw in 05 with palmer. We have a ton of cap, you can do this deal then even go get Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs two top terrier guards that will upgrade that line to a top 10 o-line. You just cant pass up on that Wallace deal, it’s just to good considering we have two picks

What Wallace deal?

Since when does the Squealers and Bengals do trades?

Absolutely correct

If we can address either corner or guard in free agency, which we should, absolutely pull the trigger on that. And if you structure the deal right, you can hurt the steelers if they want to match the deal.

Or you can help them by handing them a 1st rounder.

No thanks.

My first comment ever.

Huge fan guys, I’m on this site everyday and it seems like everyone here is football smart for the most part. I had to move to Michigan but kept my season tickets. Who Dey.
Love all the moves so far but please do the following:
Resign nugent, sims, Rucker, fanane, and Nelson.
Sign one stud guard and Williams (for team leading support at a minimum, but might have another year left)
Sign at least one stud safety or corner. I’m sorry but Crocker might be a decent player but he is not what we need to win back there. The playoff game made me sick.
Sign one great receiver, I like the Wallace deal but which receiver will work best in our system with being second to green??
If we can trade up to get Richardson, please do it, if not, corner, guard and wait until second round to get a top 5 running back (depending on what happens in free agency)
Who Dey!!!!

Very good calls
Welcome to the Jungle

It’s going to be a great season. Lots to talk about.

welcome friend
Welcome

Well nailer, I like you already. You have some good ideas above and pretty much precisely what i was thinking…. Richardson is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if the Bengals don’t try somehow to take him (that is if they don’t get someone like Michael Bush in FA, which i would love also), then it would be like someone offering you 100 million dollars, no questions asked, and you not taking it. Just outrageous. Anyways, welcome to the site my friend.

Thank you all for the welcome. It will definitely be an interesting offseason.
I think the Bengals should be ready to trade up...

depending on which corner they’re high on, and here I’m thinking Kirkpatrick. The way I see it, there are three ideal players we could take with the 17th: Trent Richardson, David DeCastro, and Dre Kirkpatrick. All three are projected to be gone before the 17th, but usually a good player falls in the draft inexplicably. We should be ready to pull the trigger, though, as soon as two of those players are gone. That way we can make sure we get a top-level talent and also make sure we don’t give up way too much to move up in the draft. Personally, I don’t think we should move up higher than No. 12; we’d be giving up a lot to get a better pick than that. If one of our guys falls past 12, let’s just go for it. What’s better: Trent Richardson, or the second best RB in the class plus a third round pick? To me, that’s a no brainer.

forget richardson if he doesnt fall to us.

He is not a great running back. He is good but his huge o line in college against week slow competition made him look better. If he falls to us take him. But by no means dont reach. Look at the giants. They always have a good rb but never draft one bc u can find one anywhere in the draft or fa. Richardson is slow and not ellusive.

I'm interested to see how fast he is

I know its not all about the 40… but for running backs thats a huge deal. if he runs in the 4.4s I think that he’ll be worth the hype

I've posted this on another article
Richardson has called the weight room "his cave". It is his place of worship and he is simply obsessed with it. At 5’11 and only 220 pounds, he has a power clean of over 365 pounds, a 600 pound squat, and a bench press of 475 pounds all to go along with lightning quick speed of a 4.4 40 yard dash. His coach has said that he picked up the 365 lbs. like it was a toothpick. However, his coach will not let him go heavier than that for fear of injury, saying "The last thing I need to do is mess this kid up", indicating that we’ll never know his true one rep max.

Trent Richardson Workout

it cracks me up to think people really think he is going to fall to us, let alone out of the the top 10

the buzz has died down about TR since the season ended, but just wait till his measurements come out and what he does in the weight room at the combine. His stock can only go up and its still pretty high.

And yes the combine matters a lot or they woudn’t have it or take it as serious.

Wilder things have happened

But I agree it’s not likely even if the RB position isn’t as wanted as it used to be. He’s top 5 talent so any team outside of the top 5 just drafting for BPA is game on taking him. Barron kind of hurt our chances when his draft stock fell (maybe a little) because any player especially DB’s, pass rushers, ect. that are in higher demand that get drafted higher than 17 can help push TR closer. Maybe a few guys can raise their draft spots higher than 17 or just TR in the combine. I doubt it but a man can dream ;-)

He won't fall to 17.

It’s just a matter of whether he will fall to a point that’s acceptable for us to trade up to. The depth at running back is helping us because, while there aren’t a whole lot of RBs worthy of drafting in the second half of the first (I think we’d be reaching for Lamar Miller with the 21st), there are a lot of RBs worth taking in the second or third. Richardson is a phenom, but if a team wants a new RB, they can take one in the third and grab a much needed lineman in the top 15.

"It’s just a matter of whether he will fall to a point that’s acceptable for us to trade up to."

I believe it would be the 8th pick. The bengals would have to trade their 17th and a 2nd round pick. Thats worth it for TR. IMO

id give up 21 for wallace easy

We need speed, and Wallace has it. I’m thinking drafting kendall wright would be good depending on how the draft falls, so why not get a proven player instead?

but on the flip side

I don’t want to give pitt a second first round pick, because I don’t want them getting younger.

+1 my thoughts exactly

As much as I would like to have him I don’t want to give Pitt shit. If he was UFA then fine but we would help them somewhat by taking him off their hands. Their 11 million over the cap (I think) and they still have to pay him so their going to cut more people to make room. If we did get him they’d have an extra 1st and wouldn’t have to make any big cuts in the roster. If we could just make an offer that would make them over pay it would be best IMO. A new star WR is found every year.

somebody is goin to do it

Might as well be us.. if anyone thinks we would be the only team willing to give up a first for the fastest (top couple at least) player in the NFL who just so happens to be 25 and comin off back 2 back 1200 yrd seasons then ur wrong.. all I’m sayin is they’re gettin the pick anyway I just hope its ours

Personally I think he'll be a squiler next season

They can always make room to slap the tag on him. He’s good but we have Green, Shipley, and Gresham already do we really need to pass up on the opportunity to get a 1st round draft pick and maybe another player or 2 because of his contract cost. Isn’t he their #1 anyway? I know that makes it even better, but hell he was a late 3rd pick himself. We might be able to find a guy like or better than him in the draft at half the cost without giving away anything. I just hate shittsburg and their players.

sign webb and wallace

Away from pitt and baltimore. It would make our team better before we even hit the draft and weaken our divisional opponents. The we draft a safety and o line.

isnt webb a rfa too

That would probably make us give up both firsts.

Yes he's RFA also
... No thanks

I’d like to keep those picks. Plus Wallace is a #1 guy… really we need a #2 and should upgrade with #1 money at a position that needs it. Safety? OL?

just one pick, 21.
But if we got Wallace from the Steelers and Webb from the Ravens sd OBlock85 suggested

Both RFAs, wouldn’t we have to give something to both? If the tender is a 1st round pick, wouldn’t we have to give up both in that situation?

sd = as obviously

Hate it when my fingers get unaligned from the home row and I don’t notice it

yes u r correct.

I would give a first for wallace but not webb. Just dreaming on here thats all.

Right on bro!

…Enough said!

evan mathis is open to returning...

Q: Do the team prayers, Bible studies, and all that jazz ever get awkward? As far as I know, the NFL is comprised largely of god-fearing men, and you’re the only nonbelieving NFL player I know of (RIP Pat Tillman). Are you out of the “closet” in regards to your beliefs, and your teammates are totally cool with it, or do you basically not bring it up or shove it in people’s beliefs (a la Tebow allegedly telling Wesley Woodyard God was going to win them the game and always bringing it up)? What do you think about the Tebow story and “Tebowmania” in light of your own beliefs, for that matter?
P.S., as a tortured Cincy fan concerned about our guard situation, is there any chance you’d come back to the Bengals or is that bridge burned? Please!? I still don’t know why we didn’t try to hang on to you, although I don’t blame you for leaving. Mike Brown is getting better, I swear!

I am a loyal Pastafarian. During team prayers I just look around and see if anyone else is doing what I’m doing. Usually everybody’s praying. I don’t shove my beliefs in anybody’s face. I came from Alabama, I used to be a god-fearing Southern Baptist myself. I’ve been there, I know what it’s like. I used to be afraid of being blacklisted based on my beliefs but I don’t really care now. Anybody that has a problem with my beliefs does not want to talk about the Bible with me. I don’t give a damn who believes what though, I’m here to kick ass on the field. I’m not answering any Tebow questions because he could end up as a teammate one day and I don’t want to piss God off and lose the team’s favor. PS: There’s no bridges burned.

Do you guys pull any pranks on eachother in the locker rooms/ meetings? If so, what are some of the best ones? I know we used to have a blast back in high school messing with people.

Last April Fool’s Day I sent spoof texts to multiple teammates phone’s from Marvin Lewis’ number informing them they had been cut.

I feel like you mentioned you were an atheist, agnostic, Pastafarian or the like one time. At least that’s the vibe I get from your rather entertaining twitter feed if you didn’t.

pick up wallace

he obviously is a big play reciever but he is also very consistent. wuld be a major upgrae at the number two spot and with gresham as our tight end teams ould struggle to gamepan against our offense and even without a toptier running back a pasing game like that always opens lanesfor the run because the defense is less apt to take that firstt step forward if we dont stick it to the steelers while we have the chance id b pissed

I'd be okay with it but

Having two top tier WRs would be awesome sure and is Wallace worth a first rounder when you have two duh, but our wrs are not whats holding us back. Now if in FA we can get help at corner and OL then fire away, I hate talking about the draft already but damn I miss my bengals football WHO DEY

Well......

If we wud have had a consisitent #2 threat green wud not havebeen constantly doubled nd even then wallace couldve made them pay for it the inconsistency of jerome simpson and lack of greshams involvment in the offense thereof really hurt our offense
