According to ESPN, the Cincinnati Bengals have hired -- actually re-hired -- Hue Jackson to be on the team's coaching staff. Jackson was the team's wide receiver coach from 2004 to 2006 before he left offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, the quarterback's coach for the Ravens in 2008 and 2009, the offensive coordinator in Oakland in 2010 and eventually the Raiders head coach in 2011. He was fired after his first season as head coach, though, after the team failed to make the playoffs and after he was a major architect of the Carson Palmer trade.
Now, Jackson is returning to the Bengals to help the team as an assistant coach to help the team's secondary and special teams. Jackson was one of the more liked coaches among fans for the Bengals and his return is likely good news for many fans.

WHOOOOOOO DEYYYYYYYYYYYY
77CincyRage - February 17, 2012
think the raiders will call tampering?
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Mike brown hes in it for the Long game
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
gotta agree
thinking very seriously about re-buying my season tickets, just gotta see how FA and the Draft goes to determine if I’m all in or not
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
they might call tampering
considering he was the main one wanting that trade… gotta think that was one of the main reasons he was fired.
txbengal29 - February 17, 2012
they can't
he was still under contract…it’s not his fault they fired him, he simply accepted a job with the team he made the trade with, but, they still fired him.
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
I think Mr. Davis Jr
used Hue as a scapegoat
Oregonbengalsfan - February 17, 2012
Happens every year...
But i like this move looking deeper at it…
If jay leaves next year. we have an OC on the payroll
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Or, think of this as well:
Since Marvin is entering the last year of his contract, we would also have Hue on the payroll as well. Remember how much Mike Brown praised Hue and said he respected him, and how Hue was able to convince Mike Brown in trading Carson. Here is someone, in Hue Jackson, that Mike Brown respects and has a high opinion of…
Just throwing that out there, I am not saying fire Marvin, or anything like that. God, where would be be without Marvin, but this hiring is…..interesting…..
pemci - February 17, 2012
Sounds Crazy
But i agree. Mike seems to be in it for the long haul indeed. Hiring Hue back was damn near genius. Hey maybe Marvin will become the GM one day and maybe not, but either way, I like where this team and organization is headed. If Mike and the boys make a big splash in FA and the Draft, I may buy back my season tickets as well.
joecincy07 - February 17, 2012
Or if Gruden takes a HC job next year Hue could take over as OC
emeybee - February 17, 2012
Maybe Chad and TJ get brought back after wreaking havoc on other teams by doing horribly on purpose LOL
DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
Wow...That came out of nowhere
n8dogg - February 17, 2012
Agree
pemci - February 17, 2012
SOOOOOOOO
now that all these little questions like DC / DB coach / LB coach / Guenthers replacement
etc have been answered can we get to the BIG question
Whos replacing Lippencott if we want Hard Knocks back we need our Turk
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Dude I just spit my Gatorade all of the place.
Thanks.
whodeycommish14 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
hah
I would LOVE to have Hard Knocks in Cincinnati again. The Bengals, Ravens, and Jets seasons were a lot of fun to watch. Don’t want the Cowboys again.. I keep wanting to see a manure truck crash into the stadium.
indesignkat - February 17, 2012
But seriously we need a new lippencott
I was thinking of a guy in a bowtie lol j/k
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Dhani Jones wears bowties....
DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
thats the guy
and then in the offseason we can send him fighting round the world
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
I'd prefer scouting around the world with Dhani Jones, looking for the next Bengals great. LOL
DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
+1
Dhani is one of my favorite bengals ever… not because of his leadership, not because of his play, but because of his attitude towards life and because i am/was an avid watcher of his show, “Dhani Tackles the Globe”…. good stuff
joecincy07 - February 17, 2012
Who won the D. Jones signed ball?
I didn’t see who the winner was.
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
Lippincott will be working through the draft.
His replacement won’t be named until after.
The_Black_Stripes - February 17, 2012 via mobile
Replacement for Lippincott is the guy who used to coach Kansas football who was very fat.
Mark Mangino

DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
are you just making a fat reference or are you serious?
Mangino was a great coach for the Jayhawks. He was a dick, and the players ended up getting him fired because he was so hard on them, to the point of actual physical abuse, but he was a fantastic coach otherwise. He turned the Jayhawks from a laughing stock to a title contender. They got derailed in their best season after being #1 in the final week, then they made the stupid decision to drive up to KC for the Mizzou game the day of instead of the day before, didn’t account for traffic, and barely got there in time to run onto the field. They got into a deep hole and eventually came back to some extent, but it was too little too late. Then they went to a bowl game against Virginia Tech, who thought they should have been in the championship game, and the Jawhawks beat the bloody snot out of them. It was great to watch.
I don’t see Mangino (my coach can eat your coach!) getting another job, but would be interesting to see him in Cincinnati.
indesignkat - February 17, 2012
I know he was a good coach, just comparing his fat to Lippincott's as the guy who cuts people at 5 in the morning LOL
DTFCPDX - February 17, 2012
I hope the organization gives him a nice little bonus for making the "greatest trade in the history of the NFL" in October!!
Somewhat ironic that our trading partner in the biggest trade in franchise history is back with us! Thanks for making that trade with us!!
Now let’s hope Tyvon Branch follows him to town.
The_Black_Stripes - February 17, 2012 via mobile
its mike browns way of saying thank you
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Yeah I haven't heard much about Tyvonn
Is his contract just up, or did they release him as well? I think his contract is up, isn’t it?
whodeycommish14 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
he's a free agent
just checked silver and black, fans there want to extend him for 5-6 years
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
Well come ooooooon doooooown Mr. Branch
whodeycommish14 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
And Huff is about to be a Cap Causualty
looks like the raiders might have finally got a GM that knows who to pay what.. give him 4-5 years and the raiders could be scary..
But very few places nowadays allow a head coach more than 1 or 2 if not immediately successful (which is why they are always not successful)
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Ha
njbengalstat - February 17, 2012
Hue Jackson
Michael Bush RB
Tyvon Branch SS
Michael Huff FS
More Physical O-line Too!!
Touhue Cha - February 17, 2012
I'd be fine with all those except Michael Bush
No michael bush.
The_Black_Stripes - February 17, 2012 via mobile
Okay doesnt matter!! LOL
Trent Richardson behind a physical O-line sounds good enough
Touhue Cha - February 17, 2012
What, Why?
Michael Bush has proved he can be an elite back every time injury prone DMcFadden goes down. The guy is a beast and I’m not just saying that because I am a bias fan of his from Louisville who actually played against him in high school. He can ball and think you should give him a shot.
joecincy07 - February 17, 2012
He's 28 years old, running backs arent nearly valued as much in today's pass-centric NFL, and running back is easily the most fungible position in football
No thanks on Bush.

What about getting Bush in addition to drafting a RB somewhere in the first 3 rounds?
DTFCPDX - February 18, 2012
The raider i really want
is Bruce Campbell
so we can make evil dead references all year round
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Awesome!!!

simply WOW!
NCWhoDey1987 - February 17, 2012 via iPhone app
I wonder if
he might take over as head coach in 2013, and Marvin goes upstairs.
txbengal29 - February 17, 2012
That went through my mind as well....
pemci - February 17, 2012
NO WAY!
Dont get carried away, there isnt nothing but a list of failure at every stop mentioned above
The Palmer trade showed where his heart is,he should be a Bengal
keithp - February 17, 2012
Next OC if someone naps gruden
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
I think Grudens here for at least
2 more years.
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
That would be devastating
To see Gruden go,even more so to think Hue is supposed to be his replacement….Talk about dumpster digging

pemci - February 17, 2012
I knew it
Brown-Lewis-Jackson Conspiracy.
MB wanted to dump CP9,
ML has been good buds with HJ for years.
Al Davis dies,
HJ sees an opportunity to swing a deal with MB and ML to get out of OAK
so he sets up the trade convincing the dummies in OAK to bye in and picks up CP9
and ships us wto top draft picks, knowing all along OAK will fire him at season end,
but not to worry MB & ML to the rescue and to pay-up for our awesome deal.Hired HJ
What makes this even more sinister is HJ is waiting in the wings for Jay Gruden’s exit next year and will become OC.
I tell ya it’s brilliant MB…….. Brilliant.
sofakingood - February 17, 2012
makes you really wonder if hes that bad
Or his plan is just so deep that we never see it coming….
(im starting to like mike brown and his sinister ways) seriously i see this as just the beginning to this potentially Record setting (for us) FA
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Alright, I have one question...
Hue Jackson has been for most, if not all his career, and offense coach, why are we hiring him to be an Assistant Coach for the Secondary? Special Teams, I can see, but for the secondary? So could Marvin/MB just have signed him to lock him up for a future position?
pemci - February 17, 2012
was confused tooo
but as a former OC and WR coach he might have some tips to teach the DB’s about what to look for.
And it was the only spot open and he did send us a first round and a 2nd for a guy that would play for us anymore
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
Because his main job
Is to recruit Routt, Branch and/or Huff:)
biggie22 - February 17, 2012
He's our closer.....wining and dining 'em. Just stay out of those Kentucky bars across the river!
Those haven’t worked out for us too well lately lol.
The Van Buren Boys - February 17, 2012
Rey was in Cincy
When he decided to be a dumbass. But bars in general yeah
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
Please let this just be good carma
I dont want Hue making any calls, offensive or defensive
No HC,OC in waiting, just the buddy system letting him back in the league until something better comes along
keithp - February 17, 2012
Wonder what Oakland fans think?
I would say you couldn’t even write this stuff let alone it really happen. LMAO!
Bigcatdaddy - February 17, 2012 via Android app
Mikey did to the Raiders what he also did to Hamilton County...
See Bob Bedinghaus… :)
JamesShively - February 17, 2012
And former Raider Routt visiting today
Great hire
Anthony Cosenza - February 17, 2012

Couldn’t have come at a better time. Even though they gave him the assistant ST and DB coach title doesn’t mean he couldn’t and won’t help in other areas. Can’t believe these Bengals, it really is a new era.

WOW .... im sorry guys but Mike Brown is pimp lol

Throw the ball - February 17, 2012
Assistant secondary coach?
Does he have any defensive experience at all? I know players love him so maybe it really is just to reward the CP trade and lure the Routts and Branchs of the world.
Cry - February 17, 2012
Per PFT
JamesShively - February 17, 2012
Florio also says this looks like "Make-Work for Jackson"
JamesShively - February 17, 2012
who cares
just having him on the team can only help!!!
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
Agreed
He can definitely get our guys fired up!!
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
Absolutely!
pemci - February 17, 2012
I wonder if Raiders fans are pissed
or glad to see him away from them?
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
My opinion is that they would be P-I-S-S-E-D!
Not only did he screw them over with Palmer and giving up their first round pick this year, but potentially their first round pick for next year as well. Then to top it off, he goes and work for the Bengals, if I were a Raiders fan I would be up in arms…
pemci - February 17, 2012
That was my thinking also
I went to check their blog and its pretty dead over there so I couldn’t really get a feel. I’d say they are not happy about the way things are looking for them.
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
raiders should have atleast
seen what he had planned for years 2 and 3 but like the browns 1 and done means constant turnover and no set scheme and constant failure..
The pick 6 champion doesnt help and now they will need to move him too…
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
I'm thinking
Raider fans are just glad its all over, new GM
I’d be Pisssed if he were our HC for sure
keithp - February 17, 2012
I never disagreed with the move... I was just answering cry's question and stating what someone else said..
JamesShively - February 17, 2012
I know Bro.
my response was more to Florio’s comment than yours, sorry
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
isnt PFT just making work for Floria?
palewook - February 17, 2012
Wow
Mikey boy I’m gaining more faith in you everyday…………Oh and why do us and the Raiders seem to just trade people lol
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
mike brown and al davis were old drinking buddys
(they just put it all on sniders tab)
Bengalsfan024 - February 17, 2012
hahaha
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
A no brainer...
They designated him as assist. db coach, so he would lure the raiders whole secondary to the jungle!lol Right this way gentlemen! Way to go M&M!
Makebelieve - February 17, 2012 via mobile
lol
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
So we basically traded CP for 1st and 2nd round pick (which could turn into a TR pick) and Coach
TRADE OF A LIFE TIME!
And more story lines for the opening monday night game CIncy vs the raiders at Cincy.
its going to be great!
AMAS85 - February 17, 2012
That game is getting more and more interesting...
Waiting to see who we get with the 17th pick and how much they will be involved in that game. :)
pemci - February 17, 2012
and we might get a DB kicker too
lets not forget thomas howard either.
thank you raiders.
palewook - February 17, 2012
the tell
Mike Brown is a person of I WANT IT NOW! Old Age and Crafty are Our Gm! Never Play Poker with Mike Brown. The difference of play is the bet!. Will Mike Brown Gamble the Bengals Away? Mike Brown feels safe with Hue.
Chili Dog - February 17, 2012
Also, having another person on the team
that has NFL Head Coaching experience and be another set of eyes for Marvin, is a good thing..
pemci - February 17, 2012
Think about this
Now there are 2 guys on our staff that MB really respects and will listen to. If Hue or Marvin want a guy in FA chances are they will be able to convince MB to pay up…..I like it
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
don't forget Zimm and Gruden
he wanted Mallet Gruden talked him out of it…He let Joseph get away Zimm gets pissed, we get Clements almost immediately
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
Very true
Its looking pretty promising
Helmsy - February 17, 2012
agreed!!!
joeb69 - February 17, 2012
I'm more with you
Gruden and Zimm are the x’s and o’s
Marvin and Hue are just faces, that can hustle MB for what they need
I have much respect for Marvin
Have yet to see anything positve at any stop in Hue’s career
keithp - February 17, 2012
Mission Accomplished
Welcome back Hue
messjunk - February 17, 2012
This is fantastic. Love this news.
emeybee - February 17, 2012
Maybe he is working with the DB's because
as a former offensive coordinator and WR coach he will be able to break down opposing teams passing games. Help figure out strengths and weaknesses and have input on what kind of defenses can disrupt the passing game. Great hire. Needed some fiery coaches back on the team.
EPK1979 - February 17, 2012
Maybe he can give Marvin a little help on the sidelines
when to go for it on 4th down, 2-minute situations…… I know some people have saying Hue has not had success, but I think he is well respected, and a good offensive mind… don’t worry about the Raiders missing the playoffs, he did as good a job as anyone could there…can only help the coaching staff…. and insurance if Gruden leaves in a couple of years…
txbengal29 - February 17, 2012
Here come the penalties
What a miracle worker he was with those Raven QB’s
Lost the Atlanta OC job after one season
Lost the Raider HC job after one season
Carson carried the incompetent ass WR’s while he was here
No other team offered him a job,i dont get it
This looks like a token gettn bounced around the food chain
Somebody correct me here,i cant find anything that says success
keithp - February 17, 2012
Uh, sucks to be wrong eh?
In 2008, Joe Flacco, under Jackson, helped the Ravens get to the AFC Champsionship. In 2009, his drastically improved in every department and the Ravens made the playoffs again.
He was OC for one season under Bobby Petrino. Even Zimmer lost his job during the Petrino debacle.
Even though he lost his job with the Raiders, he completely revamped that offense. They went from 31st in 2009 to 10th in 2010 to 9th in 2011 and that’s with no QB.
This is, of course, ignoring what he did with the Bengals WRs.
Jackson is an awesome coach. I’m glad he’s back with us.
Mexal - February 17, 2012
Realistic
The Ravens made the playoff’s with or without HUE,and Flacco still to this day isnt all that
Zimmer has proved himself at several different stops,so that has nothing to do with HUE
Philosophy changes stats,if i play defense and ball control number’s change,if i throw it with Carson and play no defense
number’s change.Just because Hue was supposed to be offensive minded,he was the HC both sides of the ball count
not just the number’s you want.
And yes, what is it that he done with our WR’S?
What about the rest of the NFL not offering him a job?
keithp - February 18, 2012
The point was, he developed Flacco during his first and 2nd season in the NFL, not that Hue got them to the playoffs. What he does after that is not up to Hue. He’s not the OC. He’s not the new QB coach. We can’t assume that because Flacco’s performance fell two years after Hue stopped being his coach, it’s all Hue’s fault.
Of course it has to do with Hue. You’re sitting there making assumptions at his coaching ability because Hue didn’t last in Atlanta during the Bobby Petrino debacle when the very same thing happened to Zimmer. Whether he proved himself or not is immaterial. The point is, the whole staff was let go when Petrino quit, including a proven Zimmer. It had nothing to do with him.
During the first year of improvement with Hue as the OC, he had absolutely zero control over the defense. And honestly, it doesn’t matter. You can be terrible at defense and offense at the same time. Just because your defense isn’t as good as your offense doesn’t mean that your offense will automatically be good. How many years did we have a defensive minded coach and a horrible defense? A lot. You can’t ignore that in 2 years in Oakland, that offense went from league worst to top 10 without having a solid QB. You can ignore that all you want and try to blame it on the poor defense but it’s not the defense that scores points.
As for our WRs, have you forgotten what Chad Johnson and TJ have done? TJ was a 7th round pick who was very successful working under Hue and has been successful on exactly zero other teams. Chad, a perennial Pro Bowler while Hue was here, made a whopping 17 catches or something on the Patriots. The point, once again, is that he developed them for this team and was a huge part in their success.
I have no idea why the rest of the NFL didn’t offer him a job. Maybe it’s because of the Palmer debacle. He wasn’t fired because he wasn’t a good coach, he was fired because Davis Jr needed to try to assert control and get rid of all people from the Al Davis era. There is a reason he brought Reggie McKenzie in and cleaned house.
At the end of the day, I see no reason why you’re arguing about getting a relatively successful coach on our team in a relatively meaningless position. It’s not like he’s the OC or something. He’s just some assistant coach.
Mexal - February 18, 2012
If you are good enough to be hired as a HC you're generally a pretty damn good assistant
Look at Wade Phillips he was not a very HC but was an awsome DC, same with Dick LeBeau and several others who may not have panned out as HC’s but excelled as assistant coaches.
biggie22 - February 17, 2012
I understand that biggie
But Hue shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as those guys,as a assistant this is a good hire,i’m just
seeing all this OC,HC in waiting
keithp - February 18, 2012
Way to Mexal!!!
I didn’t know HJ did all of that… That’s impressive!
Makebelieve - February 17, 2012 via mobile
I'm curious.
Why did he get brought on over to the defensive side of the ball? Why not an OL coach, tight ends coach, running backs coach, etc etc. I get the special teams portion, just the other seems out of whack to me.
ddbumpus - February 18, 2012
I wonder the same thing
Maybe it’s just the only opening they had. Just like they gave him any job title just to be able to hire him and have him around the players. I’m sure he’ll help in alot of other areas besides ST & DB’s.
Bigcatdaddy - February 18, 2012 via Android app
He's the next OC if Gruden walks
Nice forward planning – as well as having the inside track on the various Raiders free agents!
wiseking - February 18, 2012
I'm with Raider fans on this one
Until i see something directly related to HUE,that says success
keithp - February 18, 2012
Like this move for a few reasons.
One because I liked Hue when he was here before as our receivers coach as our receivers were pretty damn good at the time. Two because I think this move, not to mention his firing in Oakland previously just made Carson a little less comfortable in that system over there and we know that Carson doesn’t respond to personnel changes around him very positively as I’m pretty sure when we fired Brat as our offensive coordinator his complaints against us only got worse as did his trade demands.
dstacify - February 18, 2012
Was the re-signing of MARVIN
