Browns, Seahawks close to resigning RB's - Trent Watch

Nicholas Kovach, Sports and News producer for Fox 8 News in Cleveland is reporting that the Browns have reached an agreement with free agent running back Peyton Hillis.

@TheKovach Reports that #Browns have reached an agreement with @thepeytonhillis on new contract. ONLY REPORTS - Nothing Confirmed to @fox8news yet

Source: Twitter

If the reports are true, the Browns should make an official announcement soon, and it would be safe to say that they would not be interested in drafting Trent Richardson with the #4 overall pick. This would also be the first free agency signing of the year that would have a significant effect on the draft.

On the other side of the country, NFL.com is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks are "deep in talks" with Marshawn Lynch and are prepared to use the franchise tag on him if talks break down.

Seahawks: The Seahawks are deep in talks with running back Marshawn Lynch on a long-term deal, which could well be completed before the March 5 deadline. If that somehow falls apart, the Seahawks are prepared to tag Lynch, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Assuming both of these running backs are resigned, it would appear that only three teams drafting ahead of us would take a serious look at Trent Richardon. Tampa Bay (5th), Kansas City (11) and the New York Jets (16).

I personally believe that Tampa and Kansas City have bigger needs than RB and will most likely pass on TR. The Jets, on the other hand, might no be able to resist.

What do you think about Hillis returning to the Browns? Does Marshawn Lynch deserve the $7.7 million dollars that comes with the franchise tag? Do you think these moves increase the likelihood of Trent falling to us @ 17?

awesome to hear, im really hoping TR falls far enough to where we can trade up and get him.

Great news for us, TR just fell a few spots farther if these reports are true.

The stars just might be aligning for us this time…..maybe.

Tampa Bay

IMO is the only one to worry about… but then again, they have Blount who while he wasn’t elite, showed something. KC I don’t think is worried about a RB with J Charles coming back from injury and the stable they have behind him. And Jets… yeah there was already a long stream of comments concerning them in another thread. They aren’t that big a worry.

Teams trading up and down

is a completely different worry

Don't think that will happen

I know it’s been discussed but I just really cannot see any team trading up in the first round for a RB in today’s NFL.

I wouldn't say that

Just a couple of years ago the Chargers jumped way up the boards to get a RB (whose name escapes me right now). TR is graded as one of the top 3 prospects in any position by just about all of the “draft experts”. If he’s there at 11, 12, or so and someone is selling their pick, the Bengals have to consider taking it. If not, someone will jump in front of the Bengals at 17.

The Chiefs and Jets I can speak to

I live in Chiefs country and have lots of friends that are Jets fans. Neither team wants Richardson.

The Chiefs want Devon Still, the Jets want a new OT, a S, and pass rushers. I don’t think TR makes it into the top 5 on either team’s draft board.

The Bucs, on the other hand, I don’t know about. It doesn’t make sense to me with all the holes they have to fill and Blount looking as good as he did, but I can’t completely rule it out.

I don’t see anyone trading up for a RB in a draft with Lamar Miller, Doug Wilson, etc. Like last year, there are a lot of RBs in this draft that would have been 1st and 2nd round picks 10 years ago, but in today’s NFL most of them are 3rd or 4th rounders.

The pre-draft mind melting has fused David Wilson and Doug Martin together...

lol. It’s been a long offseason already.

would agree the bucs are the main concern against richardson falling to #17 and cincy

bucs have an ok o-line, needs a little work at tackle. bucs could use a stud wr. they are suspect as all hell at rb. the bucs defense could use some work at cornerback and linebacker. any of those positions could get drafted in the 1st round when tampa is on the clock

Blount is a restricted free agent though

So depending on what kind of contract he signs will dictate if TB will be a interested team in Richardson.

"Trent Watch". Ha thats great
all along the trent watch

Must be some kinda way to draft that guy, said the owner to the coach
there’s too many teams in front of us, someone will poach ’em
…etc

I think he'll fall to us..

There’s only 3 teams that really need a RB before us, and the Browns are one of them…but the Jets might take him….

i think the jets will grab him

Other than that I don’t see anyone else. Maybe the bucs, but not to likely.

lol try not to tell that to Indesignkat, I got in a big debate with him over that one

but there are like 4 or 5 teams that NEED a RB, but there will be more teams than that INTERESTED in TR. I think we can’t sit at 17 and assume he is going to fall. The only way we get him is to trade up. I have gone through many scenerios in my head and if by the slim chance he falls out of the top, we have the extra picks to trade up around the 10th spot to not really lose anything major.

which you lost :)
lol fair enough, I agree to disagree

im still going to create a poll to get a better picture tho

With you on this

Who knows what Rex Ryan is thinking and 11 is the spot as animal has stated in next post our two firsts for their 1st and second still giving us 3 in top two rounds so we can get CB and whatever we don’t pick as well

there are 3 teams that might need a RB

Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami. The Browns look to be re-signing Hillis, so it doesn’t seem likely they’d draft a RB with their 1st pick (or trade up with their 22 slot). Miami is a quagmire of suck that needs any good player it can get. I think they go BPA, but that doesn’t rule out TR. We’ll see who lights it up at the combine.

Not Miami

I think they’d actually be better off with DeCastro

Cincinnati, Cleveland (at this point), Baltimore (at this point), and even the Steelers are in need of a starting RB

and thats just in our division

As far as drafting a RB in the top half of the draft in the first round, yes there are only a few teams that would be worth trading up to get TR. And Cincy happens to be one of them.

But like I keep mentioning, there will be a lot more teams INTERESTED and they may decide to pull the trigger even if the RB isn’t a pressing need, but to acquire a top 5 tallent is just to hard to pass up.

Umm... Baltimore???

I can see the Steelers with Mendy’s injury, but what the hell does Baltimore need with a starting RB? Come on, I kinda get the feeling that you are just trying to keep this little back and forth between you two going with comments like this… :-)

Maybe right about Baltimore

NFL.com has a story about Rice not being happy about the negotiations so far and if he gets franchised he will wait to sign the tender, which means he could hold out perhaps.

i read hes looking for the 100 mil AP range.
no i really don't think Baltimore can really afford to let go Rice, but currently he is a free agent

so if things don’t pick up, they may need a RB. Its a long shot, but doesn’t mean they can’t prepare for it. Right?

Oh yes, I forgot about Mendenhall's ACL :)

The Steelers would have to give up alot to be able to get TR, and they are already in CAP Hell. We won’t see them doing anything out of there ordinary ways (they’ll probably draft a LB in the 1st).

i was just pointing out the teams that will need to select a RB if the draft were to start today

but yea, i think the steelers go DT in the first round. But they will pick up a RB sometime in the draft as insurrance for Mendenhall. Im thinking at least by the 3rd or 4th round.

Agree, the Steelers need to find future replacements for Casey Hampton and Troy P.
They're probably looking at Dontari Poe
poe or still would be my guess
I suspect if the Steelers had their choice of first round guys...

They’d take Still.

If Richardson and DeCastro are both available at the 10-11 range they should trade up

They already secured an extra pick in this draft. Let’s make it count by drafting a high impact player.

We couldn't go wrong drafting both of those guys.

we should trade both of our 1st round picks and give up our 5th 6th and 7th rounders

for 2 other 1st round picks*
teams that need a rb

Indy, not gonna happen
Browns, look to be keeping hillis
Bucs, big possibly, but I’m sure would rather have claireborn or kalil
Miami, iffy cuz the just drafted a rb in round 2 and bush did good, but a possibility.
Jets, have green who’s good, but not Richardson.
Bengals. Need I say more
Steelers because of mendenhalls acl
And then teams.like saints packers and pats could all use Richardson just to be scary good offensively.

Saints just drafted Ingram

now they draft his backup? I think they work on their D. They’d be idiots not to. Their O can score on anyone.

not saying its likely

But having Richardson makes them crazy good. If Richardson happens to fall to them, I think they take him just because he’s to good to pass up, but that wont happen.

So what would the Bengals have to give up to move to 10-14?

I would love Richardson but wouldn’t pull a Ditka and trade are whole draft away.

i believe if TR drops to the 8th spot, we would have to give up a 2nd round pick

basically all way until he falls to like the 14th or 15th spot, in which the other pick maybe a 3rd round pick in addtion to our 17th round pick to trade up. So as TR gets closer to us, the more it makes sense to trade up and gaurentee we get him.

To move up from pick 17 to the 14 it would take our 3rd rounder

To move up from 17 to 10 it would take a Bengals pick #53 and the other team to probably throw in a (4th) or a (5th + 6th).

That’s according to the trade value chart anyways.

If thats the case

If Richardson is still there, the Bengals need to pull the trigger.

THANK YOU!

its really a no brainer if all we have to give up is a 2nd rounder, plus a 4th or a 5th

I might have miscounted. It's a 6th that would come from Buffalo

So we would trade [#17 (950 trade value) + #53 (370 TV)] for Buffalo’s [#10 (1300 TV) + #170 (23.4 TV)].

So that comes out to Bengals trading 1320 in TV to Buffalo’s 1323.4.

Or something like that. lol. Math is hard.

Just saw video of Pete Pompitios training facility

Lamar Miller ran a 4.3, 4.3 and 4.2 40. Said it was the first time running the 40 since his shoulder surgery. If he runs that at the combine he will be a top 20 pick for sure. Tommy Streeter also had some impressive footage. He ran 4.3 also. With his size that could make him shoot up draft boards also.

streeter will fly up boards after the combine
i have a feeling Miller goes to Greenbay. But yea if he runs a 4.2 you better believe he stock jumps up tremendously
that 4.2 turns into a 4.4 at the combine

The pro day hand time stuff always make people faster.

yea most likely...
I love Miller

Have a link to the Miller and Streeter 40s?
For all the people who think the Jets aren't interested in TR, here ya go!

http://www.ganggreennation.com/2012/2/20/2813196/question-from-a-bengals-fan

Rex has said that he wants to be a ‘ground and pound team’. I don’t think they have faith that Shonn Greene can be the guy.

Agreed, they would love to pickup TR here........which would really suck for us, especially if DeCastro is gone at this point as well.
well it's definitely off to a "pick TR" start, after only 30 votes. We'll see.

Why would the Cowboys, Cardinals and Redskins not be on the list? I mean they aren’t glaring needs, but they don’t have anyone anywhere near T-Rich’s caliber. The Bills pulled a crazy move a few years ago with Spiller when they had Davis and Lynch. There just aren’t enough boxes to tick, anyone could do some silly stuff come draft day.
