Mock draft season is in full swing, and some consistent trends have taken hold regarding the Cincinnati Bengals. With the first two picks, mock drafts typically have the Bengals select some combination of cornerback, guard and running back, and the latest mock from SB Nation's Ryan Van Bibber is no different. With the No. 17 pick, the Bengals select cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Opinion regarding Jenkins is mixed, yet, he remains a highly probable pick for Cincinnati. This particular mock draft has Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick and Stanford's David DeCastro off the board, but Georgia guard Cordy Glenn and Alabama safety Mark Barron still available at No. 17. On this pick, Van Bibber says the following:
It will be interesting to see if the Bengals take a fancy to any of the free agent cornerbacks. No addition would make as much of an instant impact for Cincinnati. Until free agency starts, we can project Jenkins here. The former Florida cornerback is solid in coverage and has the speed and ball skill to increase his first-round credentials. All he has to do is assure teams about character issues, which should be easy to do with the Bengals.
The free agents referred to include Cortland Finnegan, Brent Grimes and Brandon Carr. Carr, with Stanford Routt agreeing to a $20 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, becomes an interesting free agent option as it now seems unlikely Kansas City will be able to retain him.
With the No. 21 pick, SB Nation has Cincinnati selecting Boise State running back Doug Martin. Other than Richardson, Martin is the only running back picked in the first round, and his selection comes with Mark Barron still available. Taking a running back who is not Trent Richardson in the first round would surely be an unpopular pick, but it does address a hole in the backfield with, in Van Bibber's words, "a complete running back".
What the Bengals will do and what their positional priorities are is a mystery we can't solve until April 26th.

Which should be easy to do with the Bengals
That’s a little bit of a slap in the face statement!

Still no respect
And I thought we had gotten past being the team that takes in every convict off of the street…
whodeyATL - February 20, 2012
still near the league lead
or at the very top in guys getting arrested or charged with something or other… and to defeat the bad reputation would now require five years of having a team of saints… which won’t happen as long as “the redeemer” is in charge (and looking to save a few bucks by hiring guys whose reputation is damaged)
occams_tiger_teeth - February 20, 2012
I'm so tired of hearing comments like that
They’re trying to be funny but it is just lazy. When is the last time the Bengals took a player in the 1st round who had off the field character concerns? Never under Marvin Lewis
kacymcbryant18 - February 20, 2012 via mobile
its not like they dont have character problems
Until we go a.few years without problems it will keep coming back, or signing people who have had problems.
JCompton41 - February 20, 2012 via mobile
Guys, nobody cares about the good guys on
Your team… Don’t let it affect you. Nobody talks about the peco’s or the whit’s or the Williams or the halls or the other 30 guys that affect the community in a positive way. How many teams would have cut Simpson right now… Do you think the patriots would still have Simpson on their team? Think about it, regardless of guilty or innocence, it’s a distraction, and some businesses have public images they want to keep. Until the bengals win a super bowl, they will be an easy target. I personally could care less about what social media idiots “respect” the bengals because it will not change anything. I actually think the bengals (whoever is making the decisions these days) have done well with the draft the last few years.

well, he's not wrong
See Simpson, Jerome and Benson, Cedric.

Hopefully...
Hopefully we grab jenkins. He is an ELITE talent, He hasnt been in trouble recently and if he stays out of trouble he can be a top 10 CB.
PLEASE NO to any RB not named richardson and ANY safety in the first.
This RB class is so loaded we can get a top guy with our second round pick.
About a month ago people were saying Mark barron would be there for us in the second… The only thing that changed since then is analysts realize this is another weak draft.
Besides, Mark barron has an injury history AND right now he has a double sports hernia and he wont have a pro day or be at the combine. He wont be back until august.
AceRockefellar - February 20, 2012
I'd prefer Martin over Jenkins
Just b/c I’m not a fan of Jenkins and I’m afraid the pats are going to grab Martin before he gets to us in the 2nd and the guys right he’s by far the 2nd most complete bac behind richardson
biggie22 - February 20, 2012 via mobile
If Miller runs in the 4.2 - 4.3 range he'll go in the first for sure, so he might be worth the pick
Martin on the other hand would have to run in a similar range, and I’m not sure that he will. If he runs in the 4.4s like people expect him too, then I wouldn’t use a 1st rounder on him. The #53 pick is a good range for him though.
Animal_Like_Football - February 20, 2012
Martin will likely destroy him
In every other aspect of the combine (Strenght vertical, jump, etc.) except 40 time and I could see Miller running a 4.3 and Martin running a 4.4 so the factor won’t be much of a desparity because they both are fast. Other than that I think Martin is clearly a better all around back but that’s just my opinion. I’m still thinking Trent Richardson might be the only back taken in the first round
biggie22 - February 20, 2012
lol the only running back we are taking in the first round is TR
AMAS85 - February 20, 2012
Wouldn't be too pleased
I understand the need behind each position, but the only corner I’ll be EXCITED about drafting in the first is Kirkpatrick, and on the running back side, it’s Richardson. I really hope we resign Nelson and bring in one starting caliber corner so we don’t go into the draft with the mentality that we absolutely have to find a week 1 starter in the first round.
Eric Bieniemy - February 20, 2012 via mobile
If the pats draft martin
We can wait until the 4th round and draft turbin. He’s every bit as good as Martin. Check his highlights on you tube.
Makebelieve - February 20, 2012 via mobile
I like Turbin
He’s not as good as Martin just like Martin not as good as Richardson. Having said that, he is my 3rd favorite RB and I think he would be a great pick up in the 3rd round.
biggie22 - February 20, 2012
I meant 4th round, which would be a steal
biggie22 - February 20, 2012
No way Bengals grab a RB in the first
The more I read on Gruden the more I think he’s taking the offense towards a RBBC style. So if that’s the case then unless TR falls to 17 (he won’t) then rb won’t be addressed in the first (even with Decastro off the board). Too many other positions to fill rather than reach for a rb that early
M Shop - February 20, 2012 via mobile
Agree
Thats a big reach at 21 for martin, they will take a RB in free agency.
thegrassisGREENer18 - February 20, 2012
Huge reach for Martin in the first, would be very disappointed if draft went this way in first.
I can’t see too many people being happy with the above draft.
The Van Buren Boys - February 21, 2012
Biggie...
I know you like martin! and so do I! Martin may be better than turbin but they’re very similar in a lot of ways. either 1 would look good in stripes. and that is something both of us can agree on!
Makebelieve - February 20, 2012 via mobile
I actually do agree with 100%
biggie22 - February 20, 2012
Please DON'T take Jenkins..we can't waste one of our 1st rounders on someone with no elite ability...He's PacMan.
Bengal4ever - February 20, 2012
That's my fear
He has Pac Man written all over him. I Love his abilities and him being a character issue guy and still being considered a 1st rnd pick says alot about his talent. I would feel more comfortable with a not so high risk reward factor in a CB. Hopefully Kirkpatrick falls into our laps.
Bigcatdaddy - February 21, 2012 via Android app
Lol they both hang with guys that smoke that loud so what’s difference? If they played offense I be concerned but for some reason I kinda love hard core guys on defense. Crocker is a good guy but is soft as tissue and an embarrassment to our team. Sorry but I don’t want choir boys on defense. Our defense needs a lil swagger and both guys brings that, Pac Man and Nelson only players on defense right now that brings that. AJ got suspended in college but I don’t see him getting in trouble in NFL. Ray Lewis was involved in murder when first got in keague, now he’s one of Hall of Famer. When ur 18-21 mistakes are gonna be made, ain’t none of us perfect.
pray4gm11 - February 21, 2012 via mobile
+1
They dont understand that he’s already been punished for what he did a year ago… Jenkins is Elite and a much needed playmaker on our D<\, especially with our line…
Dwight Carter - February 21, 2012
I didn't say anything about his trouble
I just said him being a character issue guy and still being considered a 1st rnd pick says alot about his talent. I’m just thinking their similar in size, speed, well everything really. When Pac came out of college he looked just like Jennings does now. Would you take Pac at the 17th pick knowing what you know now (just on the field performance)? He went higher than 17. I like the kid and hope he turns out to be a great player and I have us taking him in my mock. I don’t care what the guy does off the field or who he hangs with as long as he knocks it out on Sundays and stays out of trouble.
Bigcatdaddy - February 21, 2012 via Android app
PAc missed alot off football...
and never lived up to the hype. Plus his return skills were spectacular… Would I take pac knowing what I know now in the first nooo lol, but knowing what I know about JJ I’d take him in the first and wouldn’t look back. He’s going to be like Asante Samuel. Remember the Pts great D and him as a playmaker, that’s what JJ will bring to the team… Someone that can et the pick and have the ability to take it to the house. The Bengals don’t have that now, except for nelson in the secondary ut not at cb. And noone in this draft at least the top 5 can like Janoris can. There all 6 plus bulky run stopping cover corners. Don’t get me wrong I like Kitpatrick and Claiborne for what they bring. Able to cover, lay wood and stop the run, but they don’t have what Janoris has. That playmaking ability… I got him in my draft too with Miller but I wouldn’t mind Martin, neither RB will be there by the time the Bengals pick in the 2nd round. Some say it’s a reach but they got away with murder with Dalton by him slipping to them, It’ll be even if they reach this year as long as it benefits the team I’m for it…
Dwight Carter - February 21, 2012
It's a lil messy to read but I think you get the point lol
Dwight Carter - February 21, 2012
Yeah bro I got it
I’m with you on him being a playmaker but I can see him as a boom or bust guy. He’s either going to be a pro bowler every year and lead the league in INT’s cause the guys a ball hawk. Or he’s going to end up like Pac just a serviceable nickel guy you get to back up the starting 2. I’m just thinking we have a TON riding on this draft. We’re on the verge.of something great and if we nail this draft it will take the Bengals to the too for years. If they drop the ball we’re fuct lol. I’m thinking Kirkpatrick just because he’s a safer pick, doesn’t have the big play possibility of Jenkins but you know he’ll be a solid starter at the worst. Possible boom with very little bust. What do you think about Polk in the second?
Bigcatdaddy - February 21, 2012 via Android app
I don't care about the players character concerns or what they've done...
I care about how they play, & to me Jenkins isn’t worthy of a 1st round pick.
Bengal4ever - February 21, 2012
The guy who practically blanked Jones, Green and Jeffery...
and who also played very well against the run, even stopping TRich by himself for a very short gain when FL played Alabama. That video posted the other day showing his play against Alabama and Georgia showed first round talent.
