WHO DEY?!

Who Dey!!!
+1,000.......c'mon March 13th!
Already planing the draft party

Its gonna be a crazy draft

Like the way you think.....

I’ve already requested the days off work because there is only one thing that I’ll be focusing on that whole weekend!

So what are you thinking about running back wise. Your honest opinion, what route do you think we go, draft, free agency, trade up?
RE:

Honestly. I don’t think they’ll go out of their way to draft one. I could see a bruiser/bell cow type in FA while waiting to see what falls in their laps during the draft. I don’t think they’ll move up for Richardson, but if he falls to 17 or even 21, then I think they’ll pull the trigger without hesitation.

you don't think TR is worth a 17th and 2nd round pick?

i believe if TR falls around the 10th pick, would only have to give up a 2nd round pick. We can just give them our next years 2nd round pick and still keep the raiders.

RE:

No. I don’t think so because our offense isn’t that dependent on a RB. We just need someone that accumulates carries and averages around 4 yards/rush. And if we have massive improvements on the offensive line, we can take a decent RB and make him good.

I would have to slightly disagree with our offense not that dependent on a RB

i felt like Benson was slightly above average but wasn’t a finisher when it comes to his runs.

But if we plug in a “ray rice” into our back field. the sky is the limit for our young offense. I think this team has been waiting for a impact running back since Dillion. Now is the time to get the RB and fullfill a need. I think an extra 2nd round pick will be well worth it.

TR will add another dimension to our offense that will be difficult to prepare for.

If we plug in 'RAY RICE"

Just plug him in there……lmao
He is demanding 100 million, and isnt even close to being worth that

this is in regards to drafting TR
He's talking about a Ray Rice type of back.

He’s not saying, “Go out and get him.”

Depending on what they do in Free agency with the wideouts I would Draft a running back in the 2nd if Trent is not available. Maybe another in the 5th

Free Agency
Try to get Nicks/Grubbs
Set the market if POSSible

Free Agent & Draft. Even with Michael Bush, they’d need a 12 carry RB to split with him in rounds 2-4

how about Pead

Bush and Pead….me likey

Some thoughts...

The more I think about the RB situation, the more I feel that if it’s addressed via the draft, Richardson is worth taking at 17, but not trading up. And in my opinion, taking any other RB in the first is a slight reach, and you simply don’t reach for running backs.

The think that I look at and that gives me hope, is the Demarco Murray Situation, picked up in the later rounds but when off when given the chance.
RE:

Plus Foster was an UDFA.

eh...

But how many guys like him slip through the cracks like that? Not many…

+1

thats the whole point of the draft. To gaurantee to get the guys you want on your team.

True, but plenty get picked up in the later rounds
But

If there’s a position in which those type of players DO fall through the cracks, it’s running back. There’s a reason, IMHO, that some say that running backs are a dime a dozen.

3rd round for Murray. That’s the sweet spot for RBs.

rudi johnson as well?
Agreed.

In today’s game, running backs have become less vital to a team’s offense. It’s all about the o-line and if the team doesn’t improve that, it won’t matter which RB they acquire.

Disagree, Josh. I think OL will look better by the RBs play. Some of the worst OL units in the league can run the ball with a good RB.

Is Texans running game good...

Because of Foster/Tate combination or because of their o-line?

RE:

Oline has a great scheme, which is something that I wish the bengals would get back to. Running more of a zone Blocking scheme

Its the famous Denver/Shannahan Zone blocking scheme that helps. Their line us good and their RBs are good and deep. That’s combination produces GREAT results

+1 combination of both

Their backs strive in that system with great cut back ability.

Is Vikings running game good...

Because of Adrian Peterson or because of their o-line?

Thats extremely rare

Your ass backwards on that one

You know 2 of the worst OL in the NFL are Giants & Vikings? They run just fine. Buffalo also. Plenty of teams.

Your wrong about the giants o-line

Vikings have AD,and who the frick is buffalo

Hmm didn't buffalo have a RB that was doing really well this year

and then tore his ACL? What was his name Fred Jacksomething?

Giants OL is good? wow! lol

They just won the Super Bowl

With a terrible o-line,clueless joe

One player on their line is worth anything. Chris Snee. Winning the SB means nothing. Doesn’t mean they had a 100% complete team.

Doesnt mean they sucked either
i think this is a mute point

Giants were 32 in rushing yards per game last year

How many 4th quarter comebacks

Have you ever seen a running back make?
The whole argument was the Giants were supposed to be a good running team with a shity o-line,read the posts

I agree +1000
Rey

Do y’all think Rey will ever reach his (or what we think his is) potential? How will his recent arrest impact how we view the future of the position, if at all?

RE:

Been thinking about this lately. Despite the whole issues off the field, I’m not 100 percent convinced that the team is confident enough to sign Maualuga after his rookie contract after this season. I don’t think he’s much better than your standard above-average MLB. Additionally I’m hoping that Muckelroy will give him some competition.

I think he almost has reached it to be honest.

i think he has some upside left

he just needs to be more consistant with those impact plays, i feel like he is over thinking things. Until it becomes natural to him again, he is never going to be that player we thought he was.

completely agree AMA

he needs to get out of his own head

Ok so what other running back in the Draft catch your eye, if we do not land Richardson?
re

Doug Martin 2nd

isaiah pead 4th

Ive been diggin Martin, and Pead is hometown guy. I could definitly see him flourish, given some experience.
pead will gone by 3rd for sure and may even be picked in the 2nd
i'd be fine with Pead in the 2nd

if we address Gaurd and CB or Safety in the first (depending on what needs we fill in FA)

Isaiah Pead Cincinnati 3rd

Terrance Ganaway Baylor 5-6th
Lamar Miller Miami,FL 1st-2nd

Doug Martin – 2nd
Lamar Miller – 2nd
David Wilson – 2nd
Chris Polk – 2/3 round
Bernard Pierce – 3rd
Isaiah Pead – 4th
Lamichael James – 4th
Robert Turbin 4/5 round

lol sorry but Pead is not going to be there in the 4th

Then i don’t want him. That list is based on value. That’s where I’d take those players. Any higher, and you lose any value the RB position has on draft day.

based on value, pead would be a 2nd round pick

thats of course if you believe in touches plus production = value

Pead may not come in right away to start, but if you add 10-15 carries as a change of pace, plus kick off and returns, for some teams he would be worth a 2nd round pick.

Philly, Pats, And the Steelers to name a few could use that type of back.

Value as a draft pick. Not a player. I’m not getting into the Pead discussion again. His grade is almost final. He’s my #7 ranked RB.

fair enough

I have a feeling pead gets picked late 2nd or early 3rd based on what I have seen from him on film. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if the pats take at the end of the 2nd because he fits there offense to a tee.

I could see that but, I wouldn't because

If my RBs 1-6 are still available, I wouldn’t take him. Which I fully expect at least one to be until mid 3rd round.

thats true, its all how you rate your RB. Each has there own set of skill sets they look for

but the pats in generall, like the undersized, athletic players.

Re:

I would take james if Pead is gone. he could be the Bengals version on darren sproles

He’s not Sproles but he could be Warrick Dunn. Different types of players.

or the next jahvid best

few concussions away from early retirement. I LOVE James and what he did at Oregon, but i don’t see him sticking around long in the Pros

I'm starting to like Ronnie Hilman as a 3-4 rounder.

He isn’t bulky and will improve in the passing game but he is electric with the ball. Despite his size, he actually runs between the tackles really well.

Muckelroy

I am hopeful about him, and was hoping he could get on the field some this past year, until the preseason injury. I hope he comes back full strength.

RE:

Me too. He was a tackling machine and we need to reset that standard. We have to consider that Maualuga will likely be suspended this year too, so Muckelroy will have every opportunity to replace him.

Which FA RB would you rather see the Bengals acquire if they choose that rout BJGE or Bush?
I would go for Bush
BJGE easily
Why do you say BJGE?

Less wear & tear. More complimentary type. Better receiver & blocker. Less money.

Agree with that

I’d say Bush would be more along the lines of what Marvin is looking for though

What? a 3.8 yards per carry RB like Benson? Sign me up!

Number's geek

Bush has alot more to offer than Benson,i’d prefer to fix the line and draft a guy in the 2cd

what? i dont see it.

he’s 28. got 3.8 yards per carry behind the same line that DMC avgeraged 5.2

He catch's blocks,and get's the tough yards

I dont care weather we get him or not,but he is way better than Benson

I take offense to the “Numbers Geek” because I do my evaluations with my eyes. I only use stats to back me up.

You may need Glass's.....j/k
Mike Tolbert is the guy I want

will be cheaper, but has a good all around game.

Mike Wallace

Do you guys think giving up a 1st for Mike Wallace to the Steelers will be too much to give up in terms of Football wise, and in terms of his production what should we pay him?

I don't think so...

I think a 21 pick is too high for him, he will be expensive, we would hurt PItt in the short term but give them a 1st rounder that can help them long term…

er I mean, I don't think we should sign him :-)
RE:

Giving Pitt a first rounder is my primary argument against it.

I think it's a pretty terrible idea too,

not only do we give Pitt a first, but we could KEEP that first for ourselved and pick up ANY OTHER free agent WR… Dwayne Bowe, Colston, Jackson, Jackson, Meachum, Stevie Johnson, Robinson, Garcon, Wayne, etc. Is Wallace that much better than ANY of these receivers that he is worth giving up a first for?

re

I would not give up the pick… Too many holes on the team.

100% agree with you on this one, would be fun to have him along side Green, but our priorities are not him
lol wait till after the FA. there wont be that many holes come draft
Very true. Cant wait till free agency starts!
I do not think a 1st is to much for Wallace

However I do not think we should give up a 1st for him. I think that we have bigger needs to be addressed. The best situation, if you ask me, is the following:
San Francisco gives up their 1st round pick to sign Wallace. The reason it is the best situation is that 1) San Francisco owns the 30th pick, so Pitt does not get as much as if someone else signs wallace 2) We only have to play San Fran once every 4 years, unlike Baltimore who we play twice a year. 3) Pitt loses a key player and gives teams the ability to double Antonio Brown instead of Wallace.

Thats just ignorant

Madden move if there ever has been one

So what happens to RFA if they arent signed??
was just thinking the same thing
RFA tender by the Steelers

if there are no other offers, he has to take their tender, right?

Veteran RB

I’m far more weary of signing a veteran RB because their shelf-life is so sudden when it declines.

LT??
RE:

Compared to his prime, he started declining after 2007. Has had only one season with a four yard per rush average in the past four seasons.

Im good on LT, we dont need him and we shld not even think about him.
He's in a situational role now

He couldn’t carry a full load by himself

Who are you refering too?
RE:

Look across the history of the game, especially in the past 15 years. Running backs tend to decline suddenly than any other position.

But which ones are you refering too that are in FA?
Generic Statement
Haha Ok, i got you, just wanted to see if you had anyone in mind or specific.
Nope

But a FA RB I’m very weary of signing.

*wary

sorry, couldn’t resist :)

True

Personally if a RB is 29+ i would hate to bring them in.

Then with that position an injury can make a bigger impact then others where you could just throw a knee brace on and keep playing (Line, TE, etc)

on the contray, I believe the RB is elvolving into the compact, quick, athletic RB type

so think in a few years there will be more emphasis in getting that type of back in your offense because they have the advatage over bigger, slower DL. And not to mention they get lost behind the line.

When that happens

Bernard Scott might actually be useful. :)

i think Scott showed more burst than Benson, but at the same time, the majority of scotts carries were stopped be hind the line. Poor blocking

but if any back im reffering to, it would be in the mold of TR.

Just don’t see many backs with his compact size and speed. Just a freak.

Any news regarding Shipley's rehab.
RE:

On schedule to be ready by training camp.

Thanks. Damn phone submitted the question before i was finished.

OK, so ready by training camp, but not OTAs.
Bummer. Was hoping he’d be ready for OTAs.

Any news regarding Shipley's rehab?

Is he on schedule to participate in OTAs?

We’ve heard Hall is on schedule for the start of training camp. I hope Shipley can participate in OTAs so that he further establishes his relationship with A.D. ACLs typically take 6-7 months, and Shipley was injured on September 18th. Hope he is ready to practice by March-April.

Any news?

RE:

You really want to know, eh? :)

No, he’s on schedule to participate in training camp. OTAs are very much in doubt however.

Haha - stupid phone. Apologies
Ship will be a huge asset next season

We missed him last season. Can’t wait to see him back.

What do you guys think??

About moving up if possible to land Morris Claiborne and maybe Trent Richardson falls to 21??

Richardson will not fall that far
Ingram fell to 28 last year
That INGRAM,not TR
Yup, INGRAM heisman trophy winner 2009....
if TR falls great

But he is light years better than ingram

+1

AP fell a little but teams just don’t pass up on that kind of talent regardless of position.

Against

I’m generally against moving up in the draft because it would mean sacrificing draft picks and we need those for so many positions.

Re: Agree

The team is not in the position to move up.

lol that simply not true

Wait till a few FA signings, the picture will become more clear who will be really going for in the draft.

RE:

True.

But FA signings are meant to fill positions. The draft is meant to rebuild those positions for the future. The Bengals are better off using the draft and applying as many positions as possible for long-term viability and stability.

oh i agree, we should build through the draft by for our skilled players

but the last time I checked we have 7 starters we need to address. Assuming if we keep our most valuable players. We resign, Nelson, Nugent, Livings/collings, and possible simpson.

That will account for 4 of the 7 starters.

then add other team FA like nicks or grubs. And possibly Carr or Pacman/ Jennings.

That would leave us a few starting positions (skilled positions) to fill by draft time. An

To move up to get claiborne would more than likely take both 1st rounders

Not worth it, especially with the depth available at CB in the draft.

Have to get into top 4 picks to get Claiborne. No thanks.

the drop-off from Claiborne isn't that great anyway
Hall is to be ready by Training Camp? I thought it looked doubtful

Don’t expect him to be 100% until October

RE:

Still up in the air. I think the last report is that he’s now just starting to run, but he’s “hopeful” for a return to training camp. I wouldn’t be surprised if he started the season on the PUP though.

Hobson posted an article on the Mothership last week saying that Leon is on schedule.

In fact, it even said Leon was already doing some really light jogging on a really cool machine which reduces one’s weight applied to the legs when running.

The gravity pool?

The one that Palmer was in on the cover of SI..

Is it likely the Bengals shell out the cash for a top FA.

Possiblly Nicks or a top unrestricted WR?

A lot of room to play around it looks..

Doubt it
RE:

I would love it, but there’s no cap floor, so the team isn’t required to spend. I don’t think they’ll spend a lot and latest reports has the Saints likely tagging Nicks.

Bengals will probably go through and extend players, signing their own like Sims, Fanene, Rucker and hopefully Collins and maybe Brandon Johnson.

Then they’ll fill the roster with depth and maybe a starter or two — but not the best players that usually go the same day as free agency kicks off.

Thought there was a salary floor going in place?

Not till 2013 season I believe
RE:

Right. Not this year. It doesn’t start until 2013.

i thought it was group thing for this year 2012

meaning the league as a whole needs to spend 90 percent of their cap space

Ah.. I remember there was talk of it .

I don’t know why I thought it was this coming season.

Just to clarify

The 2013 requirement is actually a “Cash Spend” requirement, NOT a “salary cap/floor” requirement. There is a difference.

For example, a team can reach the 89% Cash Spend requirement in any season by shelling out big signing bonuses. By way of example, if before the 2013 season (I.e. The season that the Cash Spend requirement goes into affect) the Bengals sign a FA to a 5-year, $25M contract, with a $10M signing bonus, the Bengals actually would have spent $15M in 2013 ($10M signing bonus + $5 average base salary). However, the 2013 cap hit for signing the player would only be $5M, because a team gets to pro-rate the singing bonus, this lowering the cap hit.

In other words, the Cash Spend floor (NOT a salary cap floor) can be achieved by simply handing out nice sized signing bonuses. Just wanted to clarify that the rule is that, starting in 2013, each team must SPEND 89% of the cap in cash (I.e. A Cash Spend) each year. This is NOT the same as requiring each team to reach the 89% level in pure cap space.

It is a Cash Spend (NOT salary floor) requirement. They are not the same. The Cash Spend can be reached through a couple of signing bonuses, for example.

Just wanted to clarify.

RE:

But saying salary floor is easier than a 350-worded explanation. ;-)

Hahaha - zing!

Yeah – just wanted to clarify the point.

Cash Spend and Cap Floor are not the same.

They have to spend 89% of the cap in cash (which can cleverly be accomplished through signing bonuses), but they do not have to be at 89% of the actual salary cap.

*goes into effect, not affect. And sorry for the duplicate. Not so Smartphone.
would it just be easy for everyone to refer to 2013 as the year

mike brown has to pry open his coin purse.

Love the name by the way
RE:

Probably not. They’ll go after middle tier guys that they think will get the fans fired up.

I’m expecting that they push hard for a guard in FA, as they’ve done the last couple of seasons. I’m almost expecting Chilo Rachal to be a Bengal.

As for wide receiver, I think they look at Manningham or Meachem.

I would be totally happy with either of those receivers. Wouldnt matter to me which one we got, we just need to get one of them!
+1 for the name
So how about trading down if a team is dying to move back up to the 1st or even someone in the late 20's and 30's wanting to move up

should we move down if the price is right??

RE:

Trade one of their first rounders for multiple second and third rounders? Not entirely against it, but we need franchise-level players at several positions that usually only come in the first.

yeah, but what happen at 21 we dont have anyone that is worth the value there do we trade down then?
RE:

If that’s the scenario, then I have no problems with that.

because if we do that, we will have more ammo to do some damage
I think franchise players could be had in the second.

So instead of reaching for a player at 21 I would rather trade down into the second.

Agreed

But historically the first round is your most talented. But that doesn’t mean the other rounds are any less important.

Do it

trade back from 21 to about 35-42

LOL

Didn’t see this post but we were thinking the same.

+1 we have the same thinking!! YES!! lol
That's great news concerning Shipley!

Thanks for the update!

What about trading down in the draft?

I think having 17 and 21 it will more than likely have the Bengals reaching. I would rather trade down and pick up some picks, even though we don’t need them. It could maybe help them move up in the later rounds if a player is there that they really like.

Break is over, guys.

Hit me on twitter to continue the conversations… @JoeGoodberry

Bell cow?

Why does everyone think that the Bengals need a bell cow running back? When the obvious trend in the NFL is a multiback system. Even the Steelers work with multibacks

RE:

Because that’s Marvin’s preference. That’s the only style of RB we’ve ever used significantly. You have to apply trends that this team uses when prognosticating things like this.

From reading his comments on Bengals.com

It sounds like Gruden would like to go to RBBC.

they were RBBC all year long
It sounds like he wants to spread the carries even more than last year.
Personally

I believe Chris Polk is a guy that could be a “bell cow” or a power back in a rb by commitee

polk = benson IMO
Polk = Dillion IMO :-)
wow, if he really has that same potential, sign me up

but i don’t think he had the strength or burst dillion had

I want to say he's a better fit then Ced

Clean arrest record. and for the most part more of a pass catcher.

Polk + Scott sounds better to me then Ced + Scott.

oh for sure, think there are many backs that can come in and do what Ced did

AND at leaset have a better atittude about it

IMO

He has good speed, enough to outrun college DB’s in the open field but he has that 0 to 60 burst that makes him special in my mind. He takes short strides that gets him to top speed quick and allows him to cut pretty good for a big man. He’s always aware of what hand to carry the ball in and always falls forward. He really reminds me of Rudy but twice as good. He has great hands to boot and we want a receiving RB right?

Agree with everything you said.

Then add the fact he’s 5’11 and 222 lbs meaning he is the ideal size of a workhorse RB.

Polk looks like a good fit to me

He’s a big back that fits Marvins style and he has great hands. He’s not my first choice but I like the guy alot and welcome the idea of him in stripes.

One of my favorite polk plays

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SZrZal0YWY

As an Oregon fan

I absolutely hate Washington. But I can testify that Polk is a very, very good back. He can catch, he’s got size, and he’s much more explosive than he’s given credit for.

Sorry for posting that video haha
That play also shows off that big stiff arm

He looks like an AFCN RB if I’ve ever seen one. Par him with Scott and it’ll make him better (RBBC). If they even choose to draft a speedster behind him like Pead that would just be deadly. I don’t see that happening though but he would make a good Bengal.

RE:

Agree with you, but as Josh said, it seems to be Marvin’s preference. He’s had the big boy back nearly every season he’s been here: Dillon, Rudi J, and now Ced.

I’d like to see them go to a more multi-back system. Put guys in there who can catch and make big plays. Give Leonard more touches instead of having to resort to using him as a pass blocker. That’s why I’m big on LaMichael James in the middle rounds of the draft. If you pair a guy like that with Michael Bush or Mike Tolbert, you’ve got four good backs to cycle through and make plays.

i agree with the multiback system

until we can find the guy who emerges as the clear cut starter

What is the call in #???
Of the Bengals 20 UFAs, who is the one player whose departure would MOST hurt this team?

Nelson? Lawson? (Marvin did rave a ton last year about how he finally had OLBs who knew their roles). Frostee?? Fanene??

Not sure it is clear cut. Thoughts?

Nelson.

We have no clear starting Safeties without him in the mix…

RE:

Agreed is not clear-cut, but I would say Reggie Nelson only because the secondary is in that much trouble in terms of depth. Now I’m not the biggest fan of Nelson, but his departure hurts the overall position.

Fanene and Rucker, while good and we need them back, wouldn’t hurt the defensive line as much as Nelson’s departure.

And I would like Lawson back.

RE:

I’d argue Pat Sims. His presence was sorely missed in the later portion of the season. Without him in there, they couldn’t stop the run.

If they lose him, they need to get a space-eater in the draft.

RE:

That’s a good one. I want him back.

Did they miss Sims,

or just having a “space-eater”?

RE:

Yea, I think that’s exactly what Sims is. Filling gaps and forcing opposing running backs to bounce off their own o-line.

RE:

Both.

IDK if we just missed the presence of a big body like his. Personally I think we should look in other directions to find another big body for DL.

RE:

I think one of the more telling statistics (take that for a grain of salt) is the opposing team’s total rushing yards after Sims went down with his injury.

But doesn’t that go back to the point of did we miss Sims talent or just his size on our DL rotation? We didn’t have another big boy like that to put in.

Thats what I was thinking.

There wasn’t another space eater on the roster.

One thing I'm expecting

With the NFL Lockout it hurt the team’s overall integration into Jay Gruden’s offense. I believe that while it theoretically should have hurt the passing game, it was the rushing offense that suffered the most.

I think an offseason, with new RBs, should improve simply by having that offseason to work.

RE:

Agree, but they also need upgrades at both Guard spots. There won’t be too much improvement without good play by the big boys up front.

boling should benefit the most on our O-line

with a full offseason to get work in.
still want to re-sign Bobby though

RE: Williams

Totally agree. That man is an emotional leader in the lockerroom, plus he was still graded as one of the team’s best offensive linemen last year.

I think actually having a offseason

Could actually have more influence on this team than any player they draft or sign. Practice makes perfect.

RE:

I’m not as big on re-signing Bobbie as everyone else seems to be. Sure, he’s been a leader and a mainstay on the line for quite some time, but he’s old and rehabbing a bad injury. If he’s brought in for depth and to compete for a starting position, I wouldn’t be opposed, but I think they need to get younger and more athletic at the position.

agreed

i love bobby i think hes a great guy and a great lineman. but he’s 38 and cant stay healthy anymore…

his last injury didnt even look that severe

RE:

Dude. He broke his ankle. :)

im not saying the damage wasnt severe

i mean the events that caused the injury… it just doesnt seem like his body can take the abuse anymore

yea but that can be one of those nagging injuries for a veteran player
RE:

Maybe. But that’s for the team to player to figure out — something we simply can’t forecast.

i agree.

like with most signings, i expect the bengals to make the right decisions.

haha, make sure you temper those expectations ;)
lol for sure

but by the way the front office has been preforming the past year and half. I have a pretty good feeling this offseason.

he had a broken foot! and was playing on it.

not that severe….“come on man !”

agreed Cos

he shouldn’t be the defacto starter. but i think he’s still got value as a backup and even more as a leader/mentor

RE:

Oh absolutely. In a perfect world we sign Nicks, draft DeCastro and bring Bobbie Williams back for depth.

stop filling my head with thoughts such as those Josh
LOL

I’m waking up in the middle of the night in a sweat thinking about it.

if we signed Nick (or Grubbs)

draft DeCastro and bring back “the Boss”….i promise i will not say 1 mean thing towards Mike Brown for the entire season. you almost exploded my head right there

I'd love Nicks and/or Grubbs

But I think a middle-tier guy like Rachal will be their target, honestly.

that would a perfectly "ROUND" world lol
Love big uglies.. :)
If they signed Nicks

Do you think they will draft DeCastro if he is there? I’m just asking because Guard really hasn’t been a position they put a lot of emphasis on over the years.

RE:

You’re 100 percent right about that. No, I don’t think they’ll do both. It’ll be one or the other.

RE:

And it won’t be Nicks.

grubbs would be such a dagger
I think they would have to give serious consideration to drafting DeCastro if he's available.

You simply cannot pass up on a line consisting of, from Left to right:

Whitworth-Nicks-Cook-DeCastro-Smith. Good God, that would be unimaginable! That is easily a top 5 offensive line in the league. Our line would be set for the next half-decade (atleast), and it could potentially rival the dominant offensive line of the 90s Cowboys with the likes of Newton, Stepnoski, Erik Williams, etc.

A line like that is simply too good to pass up. Protect you biggest investment (A.D.), and it enables the offense to do what it wants both in the passing and running game.

Hells Yes to both!!

i think so- they showed the world that they finally know we need upgrades last year

w/the failed FA gaurds, and drafting Boling…i think they are finally taking it seriously

RE:

They should. DeCastro has the makings of an Alan Faneca or Steve Hutchinson by most reports.

But, they probably wouldn’t go that way.

A few draft sites actually said Silatolu had more talent than DeCastro.
Prior to 2006, the Bengals NEVER selected a cornerback in the first round.

They then took one in back-to-back drafts, and are very likely to select another one in the first round this year.

So the fact that the team has NEVER selected a Guard in the first round is immaterial. DeCastro would provide great value at #17.

Draft history isn't really a good way to look at the future

I’m with you 100% if he’s there we take him. Just because we haven’t done something in the past doesn’t mean dick. There’s always a first time for everything right.

Am I the only one that's adamantly opposed to the Bengals drafting Janoris Jenkins?

No more character concerns, please.

what did he get into a fight and smoked some dubbies?

im going to chalk that up to being a star college athlete. I think he would be worth the pick at 17 or 21 because of his talent.

Zimmer is not to be messed with.

RE:

Hell, I’ll just chalk that up as being IN college. Athlete or not. Lol

rec'd. hahaha so true
lol right

#lostmemories

RE:

Understand that it’s relatively common. But, we’re having major problems with party boys lately.

He’s showing that he can’t be trusted. I don’t want a guy like that.

i think maybe if Decastro is still there to choose from, they may go away from Jenkins

but its a long shot, Im really hoping Kirkpatrick drops to us.

depending on what happens with Simpson

drafting a smoker would be about the worst PR move we could make (not factoring in any on field things here, just public and media perception)

RE:

Mike Brown sooooooo does not care what you or I think.

RE:

True, but they stayed away from Mallett last year and still went with Dalton. Character over PERCEIVED talent won there…

RE:

Yep. But Brown wanted Mallett. He was convinced out of it by Lewis and Gruden only because the coaches felt that Dalton would be ready by day one and he’s simply the more intelligent QB.

oh i know

was more talking about the suffering us Fans would be in for if we draft a smoker… MB clearly doesn’t care how we or the media view his tactics.

RE:

I see the point, AC. But of the players w/ character concerns we’ve drafted, which one was the latest to get in trouble? Those guys that get into trouble are usually FA guys.

RE:

Not sure what you mean? Maualuga and Simpson are guys that have been in trouble most recently and they were Bengals draftees.

If you’re referring to Tank Johnson, Adam Jones and Cedric Benson then i see you’re point.

There’s always going to be problem children on the team, but a lot of times you can see it coming from certain players and avoid headaches. Jenkins fits the mold of a player who’ll give the team future problems. I don’t want him.

thurman and slim

would be the last 2 i can remember…outside of Rey

What's you guys take on Marvin Jones WR California?

I think he will fit in as the #2WR

I like him, I just get the vibe we will be looking to a vet at one of our skill positions. And most likely we will draft RB and go Vet WR.

RE:

Agreed. I doubt this team drafts a WR until at least the fifth.

Yea i feel we will draft a WR at some point.

Just not day 1 or 2.

I know the thinking, but the Bengals have missed with Vets WR in the past so that scares me

RE:

True. But they’ve also missed on WR in the draft. :)

Very True, but the problem is that i dont want them to miss big and lose money
Here's a curve ball- what kind of role will Binns have w/us next year

does he flat out replace Simpson or is he going to end up more of a warm body/PS type of guy?

RE:

I doubt he makes the squad unless he blows people out of the water during training camp or proves to be a quality special teams player. After Green, Ship, Whalen, veteran FA, you’re really only going to give the final two spots to special teams guys like Baby Hawk.

thats assuming Rome is gone and we go Vet in FA

what if none of those happens? roll the dice w/Binns, or use the draft? Binns has a large frame and could be a decent replacement for Rome if he gets his head in the playbook and comes into camp ready, willing and able

PS

maybe gets signed to active roster late in seasons if there are injuries

RE:

PS until someone gets hurt (God forbid). That’s how I see it.

Can someone explain the cap floor for next season please

Does each team have to hit a certain cap floor or does it take the average of all the teams together and it must be a certain percentage?
I was thinking it was the avaerage of ALL teams.

i'm pretty sure its a fixed number

and any team that doesnt reach it has to pay the remainder to the NFLPA anyway…

Think we will pick up any extra comp picks?

Like say J JO or Mathis who left for starting roles.

nope

something about signing more people than you lost

I also thought it dealt with contract $.
RE:

It’s a formula that includes playing time, money spent, players lost, the playoffs, etc…

I would assume

Joseph having a starting role and signing a $48.75 million dollar contract may help us though right?

RE:

From my understanding, we’re not getting anything for JJ. We signed too many players during FA.

depressing.
RE:

We’ll find out soon enough though. No one really knows how that’s all factored — it’s an NFL secret formula.

I just know the explanation on Wikipedia.

(Citation Needed)

From what I've read we don't

I’ve been over the rules of that a hundred time only to get more confused. Their was a guy on Mocking the Draft that had a good write up on this and he didn’t have us getting anything but that was before JJ got named to the PB. If that makes a difference I don’t know.

how about Moch

is anyone else salivating over this guy like i am/was?

i need to see something
I think he will still be a work in progress

I don’t see him being a huge contributor. Maybe as a situational pass rusher. He has to get on the field first.

and a ST missile

dude can FLY from what i’ve read

Too bad we just havent seen any of this yet...Kind of bummed
RE:

Unfortunately for him, he got hurt and then had migraines throughout the season. Get healthy and I’m sure he’ll help the team’s pass rush. That’s the hope, at least.

RE:

I honestly didn’t know much about him when they drafted him. Athleticism is off the charts and he’s a project player that they love.

I think Marvin is always on the lookout for the next Peter Boulware.

Arman Binns

I happen to think he can be our #2 WR if given the chance what is your opinion on statement?

RE:

Not as confident in that. I think he has a lot to prove.

Agreed, and I'd be way more confident with a Vet like Manningham or Meachem.
any chance we get to see baby hawk return some punts or kicks?
that reality show he was on....apparently he was a STUD return man

kinda confused as to why he didn’t get a shot last year

reason he didnt get a shot: brandon tate
RE:

Because when Lewis and coaching staff makes a decision, they are loyal to an absolute fault on that decision. They acquired Tate and let a fan-favorite in Cosby go. They weren’t going to let that decision appear as a failure. Plus there were spots that Tate was impressive.

SPOTS is the key word, he was not all around impressive, and kind of kept me on the edge of my seat when he touched the ball for returns.
RE:

No, he wasn’t. Overall product wasn’t that good. He danced so much after catching the football. When he cut once and burst through the hole, he was that much better. I give him the benefit of the doubt, since this was his first year as a punt returner. Otherwise, I’m fine with change.

did you know

Tate was drafted one spot before Mike Wallace???

Training camp may reset this.

I feel hawkins is the better overall contributor and may deserve a chance.

RE:

It’s possible. It seems as if Marvin likes Tate though, so we’ll see. I’d like to see him have a shot, as well as get some more plays on offense. He’s a fun little player to watch.

I think the WR they draft in the later rounds will be drafted solely on return ability.

Joe meintioned TJ Graham yesterday. He is super fast and could be an impact player as a return man year one. Then they could bring him along and try to mold him into a solid WR. He will probably go between 5-6. I think Rainey could be a good as well. He showed versatility at the Senior Bowl.

HUGE fan of Hawkins. Watched the show, and he was great. Best attitude on the show!
what is everybody most excited about in the upcoming season?
RE:

Year two of the Dalton/Green combo.
Year two of the Gruden offense.
Year one of the Mark Carrier defensive backs.
Overall changes in FA and the draft.
Watching Pittsburgh implode right now… :)

I love their cap space....

I am sort of ashamed of my pleasure in the Steelers implosion….

RE:

Don’t be ashamed. Point and laugh.

I find it funny the deal everyone is making that Todd Haley hasn’t contacted Big Ben. Far be it for us to assume that Big Ben is adult enough to reach out on his own.

I do think it is kind of odd that they havent spoken

The entire offense is going to change and you havent even spoken to the franchise player….just doesnt look good at all….sorry about this image….just had to do it

wow this pic was clearly 40 pounds ago lol
Don't be ashamed

If that’s shameful then I’m damned because I get off on the though of their demise:-) I’ve really got an unhealthy hatred for that team lol.

"unhealthy hatred"

nailed it……

They really are in a bad spot

With those cap issues I don’t care what those guys that come over here say. Their pretty far over the cap and even if they restructure some contracts their still looking at cutting players. Then that leaves their own FA and the draft.

Over all potential, and our ability to contend with the playoff teams. There is honestly too much to say!
Winning a playoff game!

And watching Palmer get humiliated in his return to Cincy

Re:

We won’t be short of storylines for the Bengals/Raiders this year, will we? Lol

Another Curve ball, since the guy is from my hometown. Have we given up on Ghee? What potential does he have and when will we see any of it. It sounds like we are completely forgetting him and going with a new route
RE:

Yea, he keeps on running into durability issues too.

I think IF he stays healthy

He will be good. Coaches seemed to be happy with how he was practicing towards the end of the year. Kid was a great player at Wake.

How about Janzen Jackson in the 4th sounds??
I did like him

I saw some tape on him and it seemed like he wiffed on a lot of tackles. Also, it seems as if he has some emotional problems but if he has his act together. Some team will get a steal if they draft him.

The only sure thing I know about this upcoming season:

Rico Murray will be cut at least 2 more times by the Bengals.

Question

If we did this once a week, would you guys be down with that?

100% down
Alright

You guys can continue discussing among yourself. We’ll leave this open as the daily open thread for today. But I have to eat lunch. Later fellas. It’s been fun

ok take care of business "moobs" style
Keep the convo going

I’ll be here to chime in.

Draft Related:

Is Janoris Jenkins big enough to play man to man with larger receivers? Calvin Johnson, Fitz etc.

He held his own against Green and other bigger guys

Thats what will be the difference between him being a good db and a pro bowler. That and whether he becomes the second coming of Pac Man.

RE:

As I said above, I don’t want him. Though he’s got good speed and cover skills, his character concerns and size worry me. He wasn’t all that impressive in the Senior Bowl, either.

I like Joe Goodberry’s guy, Stephon Gilmore at No. 21. He’s big, pretty fast, can cover and tackle. He’s coming out as a Junior, so he’s a little raw, but I like what I hear.

Plus, we had good luck with the last CB we drafted out of South Carolina.

I feel Janoris is a boom or bust player. Either he will be great or he will be pacman.

Not huge on Gilmore, I feel his ceiling is to be “above average” and that’s about it. He’s a little stiff in his hip rotation though, also he needs better timing on went to go for the ball.

+1 on the boom or bust
He plate bigger than his size. Tape doesn' lie.

He doesn’t shy away from contact – just ask Isaiah Peas in the senior bowl. Janoris actually laid a big hit on him, while on punt return coverage. To me, that fact alone, speaks volumes about his desire. He wasn’t half-assing it on special teams! By all accounts, front office personnel who met with him at the Senior really lauded his high Football IQ.

Look, Janoris would NOT have been kicked off Florida had not Urban Meyer retired. Urban Meyer admitted as such (I will try to find the article). The new coach wanted to make a statement that he was the “New Sheriff in town”, so he sent a message to the entire team that even one of the best players (Jenkins) can be kicked off the team.

Both Jenkins and Urban Meyer admitted that Jenkins would NOT have been kicked off thw team had Meyer not unexpectedly retired and was month longer Florida’s coach. Meyer OS also on record has saying Janoris is a good kid (who’s obviously has made mistakes – but who among us hasn’t??) and comes from a hope family.

As such, if Meyer never leaves Florida, Jenkins is NOT kicked off the team, and more than likely would have been a top ten pick.

He certainly has top ten talent, and I truly believe he provides too good of value to pass up at #17 or #21.

The Senior Bowl is basically a job interview.

Saying he has good desire because he performed well and didn’t shy away from contact in the senior bowl doesn’t really mean a whole lot to me. Everyone is always going to make themselves look best in a job interview even if they aren’t usually like that.

If you watch that video that was posted of him against Alabama and Georgia

he doesn’t shy away from contact there either. I mean hell he brough TRich down by himself just past the line of scrimmage even. The kid is good and plays bigger than his size.

Yet, some prospects "blow off" the senior and/or combine and do not come off well.

By all accounts, Janoris came across really well to front office personnel, especially with regard to his football intelligence.

Also, the special teams play in the Senior Bowl does stand out. I’m sure Janoris had not been on punt return coverage since high school. He played well and showed tremendous desire. He college tape at Florida also does not lie. The guy plays much bigger than his frame suggests, and he does not shy away from contact. Simply watch tape of him at Florida, and it is clear as day.

"By all accounts, Janoris came across really well to front office personnel, especially with regard to his football intelligence."

This. Many draftniks/scouts were extremely impressed when they interviewed Jenkins. That on top of his skill and shown play… 1st round

Yes

You Tube “Janoris Jenkins vs. Alshon Jeffery”.

Jeffery, while not as talented as Megateon, is just as big.

Janoris had NO problems with him on one-on-one man coverage. Janoris’ INT in that game against Jeffery is pretty impressive, too. Janoris is pretty physical. He plays bigger than his frame would suggest, but he’s plenty big enough.

In college he looks good that's not the issue.

The point is more can he hold his own against the best of the best who have half a foot on him.

wouldnt hurt practicming against AJ everyweek
Alahon Jeffery is just a big as Megatron (not as talented, as I stated, but just as big)

He also more than held his own against A.J. And Julio. Jeffery, Green and Julio all have “half a foot on him” as you say.

Also, why would your question be limited to Janoris??

Your question (I.e. " Can the player hold up against the ‘best of the best’") applies to ALL college prospects, not just Janoris Jenkins.

Again, Janoris is NOT even kicked off the team if Urban had not retired. Urban Meyer admitted as much himself.

The question isn't as much of can he stop the best of the best.

But rather can he compete with the best of the best still when they are 6’5" compared to the 5’9" Jenkins.

You can all the talent in the world, but sometimes it just comes down to size.

It looks like that was exactly what his answer was in reply to
Alahon Jeffery is just a big as Megatron (not as talented, as I stated, but just as big)
He also more than held his own against A.J. And Julio. Jeffery, Green and Julio all have "half a foot on him" as you say.
Thank you Oregon Bengals fan.

By his response, I’m fairly certain he hasn’t a clue of who Megatron is.

@mikefloriosucks

Sorry, but your response does not make any sense. By your response, you are concerned more if Janoris can “compete” against NFL players, not stop them?? You said as much, incredibly! You said, the question isn’t whether he can ‘stop’ the best, but rather can he "compete’ against the best.

What???

If a player can ‘stop’ the best (and Janoris has clearly stopped the best – A.J., Julio, Alshon, and others), then by logical extension, the player can certainly ‘compete’ against the best.

With all due respect, you response was nonsensical. Janoris is a phenomenally talented corner who has shut down elite receivers in the best conference in college football (essentially the NFL’s Triple A).

Just watch tape of Janoris when he played at Florida. He is plenty big enough, and his size is simply not an issue to anyone that recognizes elite football talent.

Got a random question for josh, anthony, ect.

When you all do the cincy jungle show, can we have one member of the blog featured on the show each week and not just a caller. I know you all sometimes do this, but what about every week?

thas a good idea

just dont talk about Rome’s guilt or innocence…bout started a riot yesterday…jeez…

lol how do you figure?
You all get what I'm saying?

Still having callers call in, but each week have one member of the blog featured on the round table for the entire show. And have them let everyone know their username on the blog and such.

RE:

You mean feature one of our commenters on the podcast?

Yes
RE:

Hmmm…interesting thought. I’ll pass it along to the gang. Maybe we can do two shows a week—one with outside guests and calls and then one with the suggestion you’re making.

RE:

Not sure what you mean.

Like a featured guest from another SBN blog or another Bengals site?

Great idea

A CJ guest member on the pod cast every week. I’d tune in for that and can I be the first guest? Lol

i think i shld get it, it was my idea after all, lol
Okay, I guess lol.

Shotgun!

Gotta huge gut feeling were gonna be....

The most aggressive team the ENTIRE off season

I hope your right.

But aggressive how?

We got money to do what needs to be done. We can up grade all but a couple positions this year. This what I would do…

Sign M.Williams, Grimes and Nicks for around 25mil total

Re-signWilliams, Nelson, Simms, Nuge, Fanene, Collins and Lawson for combined 17-18 mil

Cut Crocker and Geathers that’s 7mil for us

Make Hall redo his deal and give us 8mil back

So we basically can re sign all our key free agents for free if we get Hall to restructure his deal. It’s pretty much a giving that Crocker and Geathers are gone.

RE:

I’m trying to stifle my inner-Joe Reedy-like cynicism.

I think they’ll be aggressive, just not in the way that people hoped. They’re not going to land any big fish. Probably a lot of their own guys and some middle-tier outside guys.

Bengals do typically make one pretty nice acquisition

Odom, TO, Clements etc.

I feel we may snag one of the wr’s that are FA’s this year. Not a Vincent Jackson or a Mike Wallace. Maybe one of those coming out of the NO.

Hmm..

Trent Richardson anybody?

Not at the cost of trading up to get him.
That story ESPN had on him today was sick.

He is going to make lineman look stupid in the bench press.

I would be content with that

I think think if they get a upgrade at guard and a starting corner, I would be happy.

eh i want them to be a jugetrnaut offense more than anything else...
fa/draft

let’s give gruden 45 million for free agency and zimmer all of our draft picks and see what happens.

but you know whats interesting? bengals have already signed another running back....hmmm....
smoke screen signing
What's everyone think about Ben Tate?

Worth trading a #2 pick for?

RE:

Not a second round pick, unless it’s the 2013 one.

Isaiah Pead?
RE:

Not until the third round or later and only if paired with a bigger back like Michael Bush or Mike Tolbert.

He’d be an exciting gadget player in the mold of Sproles or Dexter McCluster, though I don’t know if he’s as talented.

id say the 3rd round for us

but i have a feeling pead will be gone by the 2nd

He is the kind of player that you will regret for not drafting...
So is Ki-Jana Carter

As long as he doesn’t get hurt or anything..

Who would be considered a second tier player out of the FA cornerbacks?

or even guards?

RE:

CB: Tarell Thomas of NYG

OG: Chilo Rachal of SF

I'm big on Thomas

I think another interesting CB could be Reggie Smith of the 49ers. He is versitile and coming out of college he was described as one of the most coachable players in the draft. He is still young, is 6’1 and was a monster at Oklahoma. If given the opportunity, he could turn out to be a find.

Dan Connolly of the Patriots would also be a second tier type player

Plus, he brings versatility as he can play both guard spots and center. He is still a relatively young 29 years old, too.

Also, Rachal had a very good 2010 season, but actually lost his job when the 49ers played us. Jon Fanene and Geno Atkins were absolutely destroying Rachal. He gave committed a couple of penalties, allowed two sacks, numerous pressures, and was generally thrown around like a rag doll on running plays – and this all occurred in the first half against us! Harbaugh benched him at halftime, and he never played another down again! The Bengals destroyed him.

Not sure the Bengals would target a guy they made look so silly just a few months ago. They exposed him, and caused him to lose his starting job.

I've thought about Connolly

He seems to be a better option out of the guys mentioned. Him being trusted to protect Brady says alot in it’s own.

CB/DB

i think the bengals get at least 2-3 DBs
and draft Xavier Rhodes in 2013
what u guys think??

RE:

2-3 DB’s this offseason is conceivable. I think they need two CB’s—one veteran and one rookie. They also need safety help, so they could easily grab that many.

1 vet,1 rook?? why another vet??
RE:

Hall may not be ready for the beginning of the season, Clements is older and Jones and Jennings are both FA’s. Only guys they can count on right now is Clements, Ghee and Miles (hybrid guy). They need major help here.

Very good option

And then cut out the deadwood at CB

Who would the Bengals best benifit from:
Trent Richarddson
Isaiah Pead/FA running back
FA conrner back
FA wide reciever
OR Micheal Floyd…?

TR with out a doubt, in our offense he would be very very special
RE:

Studly, starting-caliber offensive guard(s).

Pead/James- Gannaway

db's

i agree first two picks two cb and the third safety

Personally if we could sign

Tyvon Branch
Robert Meachum &
Add a starting caliber guard..

Then draft the Best CB available in 1a, BPA for 1b (OG most likely) and draft Polk via round 2 I’m a very happy man.
I’d be a very

RE:

As would I. I’d prefer Garcon over Meachem though. Garcon has experience as a true No.2 guy. Meachem is a plug and play guy for NO.

I like Polk more than a lot of people seem to—kid is just a ballplayer. I think his measurables, etc, won’t do him justice. He’s a “gamer” type of guy—like Dalton was/is.

For some reason I don't think Garcon comes to Cincinnati

With all the imploding over at Indy, I wonder if any WR’s wait to see where Peyton goes 1st.

Hidden talent on the team

Seems like we have some guys that have under delivered thus far (Moch, Muckelroy, Ghee, Mays). Any chance one of them emerges this year?

RE:

Of the four you listed above, I’d actually say Mays.

Zimmer REALLY wanted him and the old guy has a knack for reinvigorating the careers of safeties.

If Mays ever gets it together upstairs, he’ll be a top-5 safety in the league. He’s insanely athletic—I’d argue the most athletically-gifted player on the team.

RE:

Plus with the subpar play of Crocker, they may give Mays a shot to win a starting job.

Mays

Do you think he can play well enough to avoid drafting Barron this year? Seems like he is over valued in the draft because of the perceived drop-off after him.

I don't think we would draft Barron regardless.

I think a FA SS would be more likely.

RE:

It’s possible. They have so many safeties on the roster this year, they may choose to keep what they have. I’d like to see Crocker replaced/upgraded with a veteran, but we’ll see.

Totally. It's MAys time and Carrier to make a Pro bowler
What to do with $60 mm in cap room?

I know we don’t have to spend it now, but why not? Other than pure greed, which would just validate everything everyone has ever said about Mikey, why not go out and get a couple of elite guys that can help take this team to the next level.?

RE:

They won’t spend nearly all of it.

But, if I had my way, I’d say spend it on:
S Reggie Nelson
DT Pat Sims
DE Frostee Rucker
DE/DT Jon Fanene
OT Anthony Collins
K Mike Nugent
RB Michael Bush or Mike Tolbert
S Tyvon Branch and/or Michael Huff
G Ben Grubbs (Rachal is option No. 2)
CB Brandon Carr or Courtland Finnegan
WR Pierre Garcon, Mario Manningham, or Robert Meachem

Do you see anyone under contract

getting an extension?

RE:

Geno Atkins. He’s entering his third year and made the Pro Bowl in his first season as a starter.

They’ve already extended Cook, Whit and Hall, so they’re pretty set there.

Too early to rip up the rookie contracts for Green/Dalton. Let them play another year or two to prove that they are more than a one-year wonder.

I think the new CBA

precludes contract extensions in the first couple of years?

Correct

Under the new CBA, rookie contracts cannot be extended or renegotiated until after the player’s third season.

This means that the Bengals cannot just extend A.J. And A.D.‘a contracts before next season in order to reach the 2013 Minimum Cash Spend requirement. A.J’s and A.D.’s contracts cannot be extented until AFTER the new cash spend requirement goes into effect.

I fully expect Geno to get an extension this offseason, though. Remember that Geno was drafted in 2010 before the new CBA. Hence, his rookie contract can be extended or renegotiated at any time.

Other possible extensions – Dunlap, Michael Johnson, Andre Smith.

i would extend all 3. Especially Geno, thats a no brainer

and I expect to extend AJ and Andy’s contract two years from now as well!

re: Bush and Tolbert

If we get either of those guys, I’d love to draft a new speed back to go with him. I’m sorry, I’m just not sold on Scott. Maybe LaMichael James if he falls to the third or fourth, or a pure athlete RB in the later rounds. I’d prefer to go with Leonard and two new RBs.

RE:

Great minds think alike. I think a big back paired with LaMichael James and Brian Leonard would be formidable.

If James is unavailable, I’d take Pead for that role with a big boy.

Is anyone else worried that Dalton will have a "Sophomore Slump"?
I don't see it.

I think he is too bright and too hard of a worker. He seems too competitive to let that happen. Having a off season should only help him.

Mildly

But I’ve believed in that kid way to long to really think he will have an issue like that.

If there is a slump, then I will bet Cincinnati did not put him in the best position to succeed to begin with. (not bringing in enough protection etc)

Only somewhat

Between Gruden installing more of his system, Dalton’s work-ethic, and getting him some help in the draft and FA, I feel reasonably confident that he’ll at least match his production from last year.

The expectations worry me more than the reality. If we get a “name” WR in FA or somehow luck into an elite offensive lineman in the first, casual fans could expect instant improvement. Even if that happens, it’ll take time for things to continue to develop.

Mike Wallace just tweeted

Black and Yellow

Maybe he was looking in the toilet

He’d better get that checked out.

I highly doubt he will be in black and yellow

next season

Am I the only one who ISNT fond of drafting

Lamar Miller in the 1st?

RE:

Unfortunately, it’ll depend on how desperate the Bengals are for the position, come draft time. I wouldn’t want him at No. 17, but No. 21 wouldn’t be horrible.

Barring something unforeseen, Miller won’t be there at their spot in the second round.

I like Doug Martin from BSU, but I don’t know that he’ll last until the late second, either.

I just don't feel any RB

aside from TR is worth a 1st round pick.

And when I look at Miller I see a back who doesn’t run behind his pads very well.. Then add the injuries he’s had lately that scares the heck out of me.

RE:

Yeah. A real boom or bust player. The guy I hope they shy away from is David Wilson from VT.

He would bring the big play aspect that the offense has needed for decades.

I would take him at 21. He only had the shoulder injury, which wasn’t a big deal and he played all year with it. He went through 3 different RB coaches at Miami and a lot of his flaws can be coached up.

I don't know if we've needed a big play aspect for decades..

But looking at our roster and what we need, we need a guy who can run in between the tackles, while still having a pass catch ability.

I see Miller as an outside runner in the NFL rather then the brute this O needs.

I think he is still unfinished product

He ran a lot more violently his freshman year and his shoulder injury prevented him from that type of running. I don’t think he is a 25-30 carry guy but teams are going away from that. I think with coaching he could become dangerous in the passing game. While he is better on the outside he is capable of running between the tackles. Most of his td’s this year were between the tackles. His elite vision will make him improve running between the tackles. Also, his best games were against the best competition this year.

You just described Polk

Would you take
Miller in the first
Or Polk or Martin in the 2nd???
I’m thinking get DB & OL guys in the first and then grab Polk or Martin in the 2nd. I’m thinking Polk is the best fit outside of TR.

Polk doesn't have Millers speed or game changing ability imo

I do like Martin then Polk but they all have question marks. I think Miller has more upside than both though imo.

I think come this weekend we can really see where Polk's speed compares

to the rest of the class.

I feel people look at him like he’s just a big workhorse, but I see a higher upside then that.

I think he is better than what people give him credit for too

I would take Miller, Martin or Polk. No thanks to Wilson.

I love him

but if they are going to continue using multiple backs I wouldn’t use a first on him. If they get him in the second to team with another big back, then that would be the steal of this draft.

Carl Nicks
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Those interested in a Pro-Bowl guard. RT @15miller: Carl Nicks said new contract has to be more than teammate J Evans $56.7 M dollar deal.
6 years 60 million??
Hey Touhue Cha

Thats the exact same contract that I posted on your thread.

6 years 56.8 ???

LOL, no way the Saints re-sign him or put franchise tag on him. I have a feeling the Chiefs make a BIG push for him.

Hey wait

The combine starts tomorrow??? Sweeeeet!

Eh in a way..

But the stuff that’s really worth watching doesn’t happen for a few more days. http://www.nflcombine.net/players/schedule

True

Although we’ll get to see something of the Olinemen early and TEs.

But the main point is it’s just another sign that things are getting that much closer (FA, Draft, NEXT SEASON!)

DeCastro Anyone??
If he's there at 17 you take him

But I feel he wont.
