Last week the SB Nation Mock Draft had Cincinnati selecting a cornerback in North Alabama's Janoris Jenkins and Boise State Running Back Doug Martin 17th and 21st respectively. Cincinnati could definitely use help at both positions, there's no doubt -- though I've been personally adamant that first round running backs have become somewhat of a waste. A week later SB Nation published a new mock draft, which includes neither player. And we're fairly certain you'll like one of them.

With the 17th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, SB Nation has the Bengals selecting Sanford guard David DeCastro. Bobbie Williams, Nate Livings and Mike McGlynn are all entering free agency with Clint Boling and Otis Hudson as the team's only signed guards. Drafting an offensive guard certainly falls under the "holy good golly we need one of those" desperation headings.
And with the 21st pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, SB Nation has Cincinnati selecting a cornerback in Alfonzo Dennard out of Nebraska. Though not as panic-stricken with the need to acquire help on the offensive line, one must take a long-term focus on the team's cornerback situation. Leon Hall may not be ready after shredding his knee midway through the season. Nate Clements often highlights hints of a talent that was one of the league's better cornerbacks, though he also allowed a handful of big plays. Both Adam Jones and Kelly Jennings will become unrestricted free agents.
Though that would address two major needs on this team, there's still an issue of running back, safety, another member in the second and offensive line, a wide receiver, a backup tight end to compliment Jermaine Gresham... there's still a lot that this team needs.

Dangit why to they keep sticking us with Denard...
There are at least 4-5 CB’s i would take before him in the 1st round and not all will be gone by 21
Bengalsfan024 - February 6, 2012
They also think Hall went down because of a knee issue..........
“Leon Hall may not be ready after shredding his knee midway through the season.” DeCastro = great pick, makes perfect sense. CB = good pick, wrong guy.
The Van Buren Boys - February 6, 2012
leon
Yea had to be a typo i’m sure but I think leon’s work ethic will get him ready. he went down fairly early in the season. If he doesn’t come back 100% i’ll be devastated
cincybengals - February 6, 2012
100%?
get ready then
Joe Goodberry - February 6, 2012 via Android app
Agreed, don't think there's anyway.
We’ll definitely address in the draft and hopefully via FA as well.
The Van Buren Boys - February 6, 2012
I had a friend who blew out his Achilles
and it took him 9 mnths to rehab it back to a normalcy that allowed him to walk without a limp….it took him over a year to strengthen his leg enough to get back out on the soccer pitch and even then he wasn’t back to normal for at least a year and a half or more. No granted I know Leon has millions and a strength and supporting staff to help along the way. Plus in the NFL they seem to be able to magically heal injuries faster than your normal doctor but I would’t be a least mildly surprised to see him still on IR next year and maybe not getting back to the field until mid-way through the season next year.
Toasted_Orange_Monster - February 6, 2012
I believe it.........
a lot of players it takes a long time to come back and some never return to how they were prior to the injury. We are going to have to stock the secondary with both the draft and FA. With the draft we’ll have young rookies, so we’re going to have to bring in someone via FA. As much as I’ve soured on Pacman, we may have to bring him back because we have zero depth (same for Jennings too).
The Van Buren Boys - February 6, 2012
what makes you think he won't be ready?
welker came back on time after a knee injury… not sure why Leon won’t. Is there a timeline I am unaware of?
The Dealio - February 6, 2012
No, not specifically.
I just keep hearing a lot of assumptions that he’ll be back and at full strength. I would rather be prepared for if he isn’t and we don’t have the luxury of much depth at that position.
The Van Buren Boys - February 6, 2012
knee and Achilles aren’t even close
Joe Goodberry - February 6, 2012 via Android app
Truth.
TCfromDubVee - February 6, 2012
Talking about two completely different injuries
Mexal - February 6, 2012
Kenny Irons -Ki Jana
Never came back from knee injuries – and most do from ACL.
It is wait and see on Hall – hope for best – prepare for worst
TX Bengal - February 6, 2012
achilles is different from ACL.......
DTFCPDX - February 6, 2012
there is no telling what hall is like when he comes back
or when he comes back. hope he’s ready in week 1 to start and playing 100%, however, the bengals have to plan for the possibility of hall not being available or the same player.
cb is the biggest positing on need on this team. followed very, very closely by guard
palewook - February 6, 2012
Because he's apparently a first round talent
And alot of these mockers think us and a few other teams will pick for need There’s no way both Cheifs and Cardinals pass up on DeCastro
messjunk - February 6, 2012
I like the theory
in Decastro and the top corner available that fits what Cincy does on D, just disagree that Dennard is that corner, especially with Gilmore on the board.
Cedric Benson Boat Party - February 6, 2012
Yes gilmore is who i want...
but ive also seen Jenkins / Kirkpatrick falling to us…
Bengalsfan024 - February 6, 2012
If Kirkpatrick miraculously falls to 21 (or 17, provided DeCastro and Richardson are gone) I think he's the guy.
sexsalad - February 6, 2012
Going to be interesting to see how the CB rankings pan out closer to the draft
Gilmore in particular seems to go anywhere from near the top 10 to the bottom of the 2nd round depending on what mock you’re looking at. There’s no way there’s THAT much subjectivity in evaluating his game. I keep getting on and off the Dennard bandwagon. He definitely has the skills, but I worry about his frame…short arms mean he can’t afford to lose even half a step with receivers or he won’t be able to contest anything against NFL talent. He has the ability to do that, but all it takes is one or two snaps a game where he slips and it could be a disaster. I’ll trust Zimmer’s evaluation of any CB we take, but obviously I’m happy with any scenario that gets us DeCastro.
eric nyc - February 6, 2012
Dream Draft
DeCastro, Miller, Gilmore or Kirkpatrick, Wright or Miller.
EPK1979 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I liked rotoworld's draft
Kirkpatrick and Martin.
I have a hard time seeing us get DeCastro but obviously he’s my #1 pick. I don’t really want Dennard though.
Mexal - February 6, 2012
From Reading Bengals.com
Yesterday and with Marvin saying how he wants to play more zone, I dont think Dennard would be a good fit. So hopefully that crosses him off the list.
EPK1979 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
decastro
I like decastro, I also like cordy, i have a feeling he’ll be available to us as well. maybe at 21
cincybengals - February 6, 2012
Best Guard in the draft
I just dont see him being there….If he is….pull the trigger
ticalcaldwell - February 6, 2012
crazy story kinda off topic
a guy bet a 1000 dollars that the first score the SB would be a Giants safety….50-1 odds…won 50 grand…..wow….talk about getting lucky….
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/man-wins-50-000-tom-brady-safety-155056494.html
ticalcaldwell - February 6, 2012
Surprised it wasn't 100-1
That was lucky and you’d have to be rich or crazy to take that bet. How many safety’s was there all season 3 maybe 4. And to bet that it was going to be the first score by a certain team is just insane. That was just pure luck if someone says they statically saw that coming their full of sh1t.
Bigcatdaddy - February 6, 2012 via Android app
Highly unlikely
But what if the Bengals shocked all of us fans and sign a Nicks or Grubbs. Would people still want a DeCastro or would he not be wanted as much?
EPK1979 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
He wouldn't be needed but he'd definitely be wanted
Imagine our line if we had DeCastro and Nicks/Grubbs?
I think, no matter what we do in FA, if he’s there, you grab him. If he’s not, you don’t reach. I’m even all for taking a DT in the first round of he’s the BPA.
Mexal - February 6, 2012
Grubbs is LG and DeCastro RG
So yeah I’d still take him. I’d even resign Bobbie to maybe start until DeCastro is ready or just for depth. We build that line this off season and it’ll make this team way better.
Bigcatdaddy - February 6, 2012 via Android app
You put your 5 best guys on the line
if they’re all LGs, who cares. I realize there’s differences, but the great coaches are pretty much unanimous in this. The best 5 guys.
That said, I’d be ecstatic if we signed Grubbs, Nicks, and DeCastro. 2 would suffice, but I’d be happy with all three.
As long as we get at least 1, I’m not upset.
indesignkat - February 6, 2012
I agree
besides QB we should get BPA for our system in the 1st round.
ZIG11 - February 6, 2012
QB?
pemci - February 6, 2012
backup QB
DTFCPDX - February 6, 2012
you guys aren't really going to do a new mock every week for the next 11 weeks are you
are you?!?
bengaljohnboy - February 6, 2012
No - It's goingt to be every three dayss
TX Bengal - February 6, 2012
Is Dennard too short
Under 5’10. Can Dennard match up with Mike Wallace and Torry Smith?
I would take Decastro in a heartbeat.
I would also select Mark Barron at Saftie.
He is ranked the #1 Saftie in the draft for good cause.
When will the Bengals ever have i chance to aquire a Saftie like Mark Barron?
Mike Wallace and Torry Smith will no longer feel safe with Barron lurking in the background.
Chili Dog - February 6, 2012
I'd rather wait to see what Mays can do at Saftie :)
and grab one in next year’s draft. This is a weak draft class for safety and Barron in other years wouldn’t be a first round pick. He is here though because there is so much dropoff after him. Next year will be a better option to pick up a safety not only because the talent is better, but because we will have had time to evaluate and develop Mays and Sands in Zimmer’s system.
Luke - February 6, 2012
Baccari Rambo?
pemci - February 6, 2012
Not only that, but
Barron has great ball skills as well. He is a little raw in some areas, but you’re exactly right— Barron is a manimal. Wouldn’t mind seeing us take a Safety and a Corner in the first rd.
whodeycommish14 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I agree
just like I have said before….Every team in our division has a star safety….we need FINALLY take this postion seriously…it just seems that this position has gotten some make-shift pieces every year from older players…Crock, Dexter Jackson, Ndukwe, ….ect
ticalcaldwell - February 6, 2012
Kim Herring, Anthony Mitchell, Marvin White...
Herana-Daze Jones, Kevin Kaesviharn, Corey Lynch, John Busing, Madieu Williams, Kyries Hebert, Ethan Kilmer, Mike Doss, Mark Roman, Rogers Beckett, Ifeanyi Ohalete and I am sure I missed one of two others we have had, have not been star’s enough for you? ;) Just kidding, I know what you mean, hopefully we will get a star soon… :)
pemci - February 6, 2012
hahaha the only Safeties that Thrive here was
Kaesviharn and probably Williams
Touhue Cha - February 6, 2012
lol
that is quite a list….I forgot about Marvin White and Williams….ughgh…Yeah we need some safety help
ticalcaldwell - February 6, 2012
While I like Barron
It’s a weak safety class.
Next draft when a stronger class comes outOregonbengalsfan - February 6, 2012
Reply fail
was a reply to Chili
Oregonbengalsfan - February 6, 2012
I agree to a point
I wouldn’t be upset if they picked up both DeCastro and Glenn in the 1st round and a RB in the 2nd. Do we need help in the secondary? YES! I just don’t think anyone available will be worth it. We draft all defense or BPA from the 3rd round on.
We resign Collins and Leonard on offense.
We resign Nelson, Lawson, Sims
We get rid of Crocker and sign either a FA CB or S. ( if a CB, we move Clements to S)
We bring back the rest of the secondary (including Jennings)
A dreamers wishlist.:
I would love for the Bengals to make a big splash in FA.
I would love them to splurge on a guy like Mario Williams. Move him to his natural position of DE opposite Dunlap. Instant nightmare scenario for any opponent,
Just imagine
Williams, Adkins and Dunlap.—- wow!! We wouldn’t need a huge upgrade in the secondary with a pass rush like that.
The I woke up and realized this is still Cincy so I don’t exactly get my hopes up that high.
One more thing. I think our #2 WR is already with the team— Armon Binns
6-3 210 and 22 years old. He will be as good as any we can pick up in the draft and I dont think we can get any better FA without paying too much.
Just my 2 cents.
Yarin - February 6, 2012
i'd just be happy with the majority of our free agents being resigned
that in itself would be a big off season splash in free agency for the bengals
palewook - February 6, 2012
I thought Leonard
signed a 2 year contract last year?
From what I have read, Clements does NOT want to play safety and that may have been the reason him and the 49ers parted ways
It will be interesting to see what Binns, Hazleton, Micah Johnson, DeQuin Evans and others who were on the practice squad this past year can do when they are given a chance. Evans was the only one who played in the preseason for the Bengals, and Binns was signed off the practice squad for the last game (or two) of the season…we have a few options, but we will see….
pemci - February 6, 2012
from rotoworld
7/29/2011: Signed a two-year, $2 million contract. Another $500,000 is available through incentives.
palewook - February 6, 2012
I think you are right about Leonard.
There isn’t exactly any worthwhile S’s available in the draft or FA.( I don’t expect Barron to be there for us) Unless Sands steps up and becomes that “guy” we are stuck with a guy like Crocker.
Yarin - February 6, 2012
and or Mays....
Toasted_Orange_Monster - February 6, 2012
Thing is, there's potential guards to be had in FA.
The best CB on the market is Courtland Innegan. After him, I think it might be Brent Grimes? The market’s pretty poor this year to my knowledge, we should be striving to take a CB early. It’s a good class with a lot of talented guys this year.
Doc Scratch - February 6, 2012
I feel like the Bengals need a speed guy at corner
to match up with Wallace and Smith. Kinda unfamiliar with the CBs in this draft. So which ones project that way?

Heres Where I would Go!!
David DeCastro OG in the 1st and Trade down the second 1st for a 2nd and a 4th round pick and a future 2nd
and then we use the extra second to get and trade down the 2nd 2nd round for a 3rd and also a future 4th round… 3rd round Josh Robinson DB UCF and get 4th Keenan Robinson LB out of Texas
Touhue Cha - February 6, 2012
it all depends on who is on the board before I trade anything
There may be DeCastro then Janoris available….you never know

true, it really depends who falls to the bottom 1st

Especially the Emmanuel Acho pick though i would like to see 2 or even three CB and a backup T instead of C
messjunk - February 6, 2012
And BPA in those lower two rounds
messjunk - February 6, 2012
No offense, but I am certain there is a mock draft for everyone's taste...
However, with the NFL combine two weeks away and until Free Agency starts (5 weeks from now) all these mock drafts can be radically changed. A players does better than expected, one does worse than expected, plus, we plug a whole through free agency, etc., etc. …. don’t get me wrong, it is fun seeing who we would like to see in stripes, but be open to changes.. ;)
pemci - February 6, 2012
You are right of course
But it is somekind of strange sickness we all have to specualte on FA/Draft etc.
