As many of you know, the Bengals have yet to hire a new defensive backs coach. Long-tenured Kevin Coyle recently left to become the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, former Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles was offered the Bengals defensive backs position. Bowles ultimately accepted the same position with the Philadelphia Eagles. According to McLane, Bowles also declined the Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator position.

The Bengals are expected to hire a new defensive backs coach at some point before the Combine in Indianapolis. The Combine begins on Feb. 22. The two candidates that have been discussed most frequently are Paul Guenther and Hall of Famer Rod Woodson. Guenther served as the assistant special teams and assistant defensive backs coach last season. Before the 2011 season, Guenther served as assistant linebackers coach. It's certainly possible that Guenther could become the teams linebacker coach for the 2012 season, as the contract recently expired for Jeff FitzGerald.

Who wouldn't want to coach Asomugha, DRC, and Asante Samuel
Although I can see Samuel either being released or traded. Wouldn’t mind taking a look at him, but who knows what will happen? We’ll see….

"Who wouldn't want to coach Asomugha, DRC, and Asante Samuel"
That’s what I was thinking. Also don’t blame him for turning down the DC job in Oakland

Completely agree
With all of the ridiculous contracts on that defense and underachieving talent, I wouldn’t want to mess with Oakland’s D either. Although they did get rid of Routt’s contract, there’s still some big ones there.

can't blame him
a) go work with the best paper corps of DBs in the nfl
b) go work for tight pocketed owner who will probably request a meeting anytime you file any expense report.
c) go work for an organization with major cap issues, limited draft picks for the next 2 seasons, and undergoing a rebuilding effort starting in the front office.

ROD WOODSON ANYONE??
Touhue Cha - February 9, 2012
That's too bad because he has a rep as a great coach but Rod Woodson would fit in nice.
He is a HOF who WANTS TO COACH HERE. What’s the problem, offer him the job before someone gets him.

Players don't always make great coaches
I wouldn’t mind seeing Woodson here either but there are hoards of ex players that did not make great coaches, especially ex Pro players. Most successful coaches played only college. There’s a few exceptions (Ditka, Dungee, LeBeau) but overall most ex pro players have failed miserably at coaching.
